Introduction About MONTEK BL 40 TABLET

Montek BL 40 Tablet is an anti-allergy combination medicine used to help relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis and airway allergies. Contains montelukast and bilastine for broad spectrum relief from sneezing, runny nose, blocked nose, itching, watery eyes, and allergy-related cough

The dosage of MONTEK BL 40 TABLET should be prescribed by your doctor. It is usually taken once daily with or without food. Before taking MONTEK BL 40 TABLET inform your doctor if you have a history of liver or kidney disease, are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to Bilastine, Montelukast, or any other ingredients in this medication.

MONTEK BL 40 TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with hereditary problems such as galactose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption (inability of the body to absorb glucose and galactose sugars), and Lapp lactase deficiency (lactose intolerance). The medicine is also not indicated for use in patients suffering from acute asthmatic attacks.

Common side effects associated with the use of MONTEK BL 40 TABLET are headache, abdominal pain, dry mouth and drowsiness. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsen.

    Key Composition

    • Montelukast – 10mg
    • Bilastine – 40mg

Uses Of MONTEK BL 40 TABLET

    • Relieves symptoms of allergic rhinitis and airway allergies

Benefits of MONTEK BL 40 TABLET

    • Relieves nasal symptoms like congestion, sneezing, itching, and runny nose triggered by pollen, dust, or animal allergens
    • Reduces allergic symptoms in eyes (redness, itching, watering)
    • Helps minimize skin hives, night cough, and allergy-related breathing discomfort in suitable cases
    • Dual pathway control for comprehensive allergic symptom relief
    • Non-drowsy profile for most users — supports daytime focus and productivity

How MONTEK BL 40 TABLET Works

    Bilastine

Bilastine is an antihistamine. It works by blocking histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms. This helps in reducing allergy symptoms such as itchy or watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing, and hives.

    Montelukast

Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist. It works by blocking the action of leukotrienes, chemicals in the body that cause inflammation and constriction of air passages in the lungs. This helps to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis

Dual-action synergy: Montek BL 40 Tablet manages symptoms on two levels—Bilastine provides fast histamine relief, while Montelukast reduces longer-term airway inflammation and swelling. This combination ensures more complete control over nasal, respiratory, and skin allergic symptoms.

    Safety Advice

    Quick Tips:

    • Take once daily, preferably in the evening, or as directed by your doctor
    • Swallow the tablet with water, with or without food
    • Grapefruit Juice can interfere with Montelukast metabolism
    • Common side effects are drowsiness, dry mouth, and mild headache
    • Take consistently at the same time each day for optimal effect
    • Pair with an allergy-friendly lifestyle: reduce exposure to allergens like dust, pollen, and pet dander
    • Safe for Long-Term Use: It can be used for ongoing asthma and allergy management under medical supervision

    Diet and Lifestyle Advice

    1. Maintain Hydration:
Drink plenty of fluids, ideally at room temperature, to help ease symptoms like cough, runny nose, and sneezing. Hydration assists in thinning mucus secretions and supports overall respiratory comfort.

    2. Take the Tablet on an Empty Stomach:
For best absorption and effectiveness, take Montek BL 40 Tablet at least one hour before or two hours after meals. Avoid taking it with fruit juices or indigestion remedies with magnesium or aluminum, as these can reduce absorption.

    3. Avoid Known Allergens:
Minimize exposure to allergy triggers such as pollen, dust, smoke, strong perfumes, and pet dander. Maintaining a clean, dust-free environment supports medication effectiveness.

    4. Nutrition and Diet:
Consume a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and anti-inflammatory foods. Ginger, for example, contains natural compounds that may help reduce airway inflammation and irritation.

    5. Avoid Alcohol:
Alcohol consumption may enhance side effects like drowsiness. It's advisable to avoid or limit alcohol intake during the course of treatment.

    6. Stress Management:
Engage in stress-relief practices such as meditation, deep breathing, regular exercise, and progressive muscle relaxation to strengthen the immune system and reduce allergy flare-ups.

    7. Smoking:
Avoid both active smoking and exposure to passive smoke, as smoking can worsen respiratory symptoms and reduce medication efficacy.

    8. Breathing Exercises:
Practicing breathing exercises may help improve lung function by increasing airflow and reducing airway constriction.

    Drug - Drug interaction

    • Antifungals (e.g., Ketoconazole):
These can inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme responsible for metabolizing Montelukast. This may increase Montelukast levels in the blood, potentially raising the risk of side effects like headaches, nausea, or mood changes. Additionally, antifungals may inhibit P-glycoprotein (P-gp), which can increase Bilastine exposure, heightening risks of drowsiness or dizziness.
    • Macrolide Antibiotics (e.g., Erythromycin, Clarithromycin):
These antibiotics also inhibit CYP3A4 and may increase Montelukast blood concentrations, possibly enhancing related side effects such as gastrointestinal discomfort, drowsiness, or fatigue.
    • Immunosuppressants (e.g., Cyclosporine):
Cyclosporine inhibits CYP3A4, which may lead to elevated Montelukast levels. Additionally, it may increase Bilastine levels through P-gp inhibition, raising the potential for drowsiness, dizziness, or headache.
    • Sedatives or Other Antihistamines:
Using Montek BL 40 concurrently with sedatives or first-generation antihistamines may amplify sedative effects, leading to increased drowsiness or impaired alertness.

    Drug - Food interaction

    • Grapefruit Juice:
Grapefruit juice may reduce the effectiveness of Montek BL 40 Tablet by affecting drug metabolism pathways.
    • Fruit Juices:
Aside from grapefruit, juices like orange or apple may decrease absorption of Bilastine, lowering its effectiveness.
    • Caffeine:
No direct interaction but in sensitive individuals, caffeine with Bilastine might cause increased anxiety or restlessness.
