    Introduction About MKGEL SYRUP

    MKGEL SYRUP is a combination of Aluminium hydroxide, Magnesium hydroxide, and Simethicone, which belongs to the group of medicines called Antacids and Antifoaming agents. It is indicated for the relief of indigestion (dyspepsia), heartburn, and flatulence.

    MKGEL SYRUP is not recommended for use if you have kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking it. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or might become pregnant, or are breastfeeding before using MKGEL SYRUP.

    MKGEL SYRUP should be used with caution in children aged 2 to 18 years of age. Your child’s doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, disease condition, and body weight.

    The most common side effects of taking MKGEL SYRUP are diarrhea, stomach pain, bloating, vomiting, indigestion, heartburn, upset stomach, constipation, loss of appetite, and dry mouth. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects worsen.

    Side Effects Of MKGEL SYRUP

    Common

    Rare

    Stop taking MKGEL SYRUP and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • Signs of an allergic reaction such as red, lumpy skin rash, itching, swelling of your eyelids, lips, face, throat, or tongue causing swallowing or breathing problems

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Constipation

    Eat plenty of fiber-rich foods such as vegetables, fresh fruits, and cereals, and drink more water. Exercise more regularly. Consult your doctor if constipation persists.

    Diarrhea

    Drink a lot of fluids, such as water, squash, or fruit juice, to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine by yourself without consulting your doctor. Ask for your doctor’s advice if diarrhea doesn’t improve.

    Indigestion

    Eat smaller, more frequent meals to avoid overwhelming your digestive system. Avoid foods that trigger your symptoms, such as spicy, fatty, or acidic foods, as well as caffeine and alcohol. Chew your food thoroughly to aid digestion. Avoid lying down immediately after meals to prevent acid reflux. Wait at least two to three hours before lying down. Drink plenty of water throughout the day but avoid drinking large amounts of fluids during meals to prevent bloating.

    Nausea And Vomiting

    Take this medicine with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Drink clear or ice-cold drinks; eat light, bland foods; and avoid fried, oily, or sweet foods. Consult with your doctor if the nausea does not improve.

    Stomach Pain

    Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have fewer and more frequent meals. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. Consult with your doctor if the stomach pain does not improve.

    Kidney

    MKGEL SYRUP is not recommended for use if you have kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Do not take MKGEL SYRUP if you are allergic to aluminium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, simethicone, or any other ingredients of this medicine.

    Use In Pediatrics

    Use of MKGEL SYRUP may cause hypermagnesemia (increased levels of magnesium in blood) in small children, particularly if they have renal impairment or dehydration. It should be used with caution in children aged 2 to 18 years of age. Your child’s doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, disease condition, and body weight.

    Use In Geriatrics

    MKGEL SYRUP should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Others

    MKGEL SYRUP is not recommended for use if you:

    • are feeling very weak and have no energy (debilitated)
    • have low levels of phosphate in the blood (hypophosphatemia)

    Before taking MKGEL SYRUP, tell your doctor if you:

    • are on a low-phosphorus diet
    • are suffering from porphyria and are undergoing hemodialysis
    • have intolerance to fructose

    A. Drug-Drug Interactions:

    Inform your physician if you are taking any of the following medicines before taking MKGEL SYRUP:

    • Medicines used to manage the heart diseases (such as digoxin, quinidine, metoprolol, atenolol, and propranolol)
    • Medicines used to manage anemia (Ex. iron salts)
    • Medicines used to manage stomach ulcers and acidity (H2 antagonists) such as ranitidine or cimetidine
    • Medicines used to manage malaria (Ex. chloroquine)
    • Medicines used to manage some bone disorders (bisphosphonates), such as alendronate
    • Medicines used to manage some allergic, inflammatory, or abnormal immune reactions (glucocorticoids), such as hydrocortisone
    • Medicines used to manage kidney disorders, such as citrates
    • Medicines used to manage tuberculosis (Ex. ethambutol, isoniazid)
    • Medicines used to manage infections (Ex. Ciprofloxacin, clindamycin, ketoconazole, tetracylines, cefpodoxime and cefdinir, dolutegravir, elvitegravir, raltegravir potassium, and tenofovir alafenamide fumarate/emtricitabine/bictegravir sodium, rilpivirine)
    • Medicines used to manage mental illness (psychosis) (Ex. chlorpromazine)
    • Medicines used to manage high levels of potassium in the body (Ex. polystyrene sulfonate)
    • Medicines used to manage pain (Ex. diflunisal and indomethacin)
    • Medicines used in dental care (Ex. sodium fluorure)
    • Medicines used to manage an underactive thyroid gland (Ex. levothyroxine)
    • Medicines used to manage joint pains and abnormal chemical reactions in the body (Ex. penicillamine)
    • Medicines used to reduce cholesterol (Ex. rosuvastatin)
    • Medicines used to manage cancer (Ex. nilotinib, dasatinib monohydrate)
    • Medicines used to manage blood disorders (Ex. eltrombopag olamine)
    • Medicines used to manage high blood pressure in the lungs (pulmonary hypertension) (Ex. riociguat)
    • Salicylates such as aspirin (used to manage pain and inflammation)
