Introduction About MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION
MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION contains Mitomycin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antineoplastic agents. MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION is used in cancer therapy to manage and provide relief from symptoms of advanced/metastatic stomach, breast, and pancreatic cancer.
MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION is also used to manage neck, respiratory tract, cervix, and rectal cancer. The medicine is also indicated for use to manage recurrence of bladder cancer following transurethral resection (surgery) in affected individuals.
MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Mitomycin. It is also not recommended for use in patients with pancytopenia (reduction in all types of blood cells), leukopenia (reduction in isolated white blood cells), thrombocytopenia (reduction in number of platelets), acute infection, and/or perforation in the bladder wall.
Before administering MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you suffer from a bad state of general heath, bone marrow depression, inflammation of urinary bladder, kidney, and/or liver disease.
MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy unless it is clearly necessary. Women of child-bearing potential should use contraceptive measures during and for at least next six months after stopping management with MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION. The medicine is also not recommended for use in breast-feeding women.
MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) and is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years/above) after consulting the doctor.
The most common side effects of receiving MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION are loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, breathlessness, painful urination, and/or breathlessness. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects worsen.
Uses Of MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION
- Manage and provide relief from symptoms of advanced/metastatic stomach, breast, and pancreatic cancer.
- Manage neck, respiratory tract, cervix, and rectal cancer.
- Prevents recurrence of bladder cancer following (transurethral resection (surgery) in affected individuals
How MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION Works
MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION works by interfering with the development of DNA (genetic material of a cell) in cancer cells which results in its destruction and management of its spread to different parts of the body thus managing the disease and providing relief from its associated symptoms in affected individuals.
How to use MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION
MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as an intravenous infusion or into the urinary bladder as an intravesical instillation. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, disease condition and body weight.
Side Effects Of MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION
Common
- blood disorders such as decreased number of white blood cells (increasing the risk of infections) and platelets (causing easy bruising and bleeding)
- loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation
- signs of lung disorders such as shortness of breath, dry cough, inspiratory crackles
- tiredness, breathlessness, cough
- skin rashes and irritation of skin
- palmar-plantar erythema (swelling, numbness and painful redness on palms and soles)
- inflammation of connective tissue, death of tissue on injection site (after accidental injection in the surrounding tissue)
- bladder inflammation accompanied with blood in urine
- painful urination, excessive frequent urination sometimes over the night
- local irritation of bladder wall
Uncommon
- inflammation of a mucous membrane and mucosa of the mouth
- hair loss
- fever
Rare
- widespread skin rash
Stop receiving MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of severe allergic reaction such as faintness, skin rash/red itchy welts, itching, swelling of lips/face, airway with trouble breathing, and/or loss of consciousness
- signs of severe lung disease such as shortness of breath, dry cough and crackles during breath-in
- signs of severe renal dysfunction such as decreased urine output, fatigue, shortness of breath
- fever
- sores in the mouth
- high blood pressure
- pneumonia
How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea and vomiting:
Receive MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods, sugary snacks and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, drink slowly in between meals. Inform your doctor if the condition worsens.
Diarrhoea:
Drink lots of fluids, like water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Check with your doctor before taking any medicine for diarrhoea. If diarrhoea does not get better, contact your doctor.
Constipation:
Try to eat high-fiber foods such as vegetables, cereals, fresh fruit, and drink plenty of water. Involve in regular exercise (going for a daily walk or run) and if this does not help, consult and inform your doctor for receiving alternate managements for constipation.

Pregnancy
MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy unless it is clearly necessary. Breastfeeding

Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or operate any machines if you experience nausea/ vomiting after receiving MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION.
Alcohol
Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION since it may cause nausea and vomiting and impair your ability to drive/operate machines. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.
Kidney
MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with impaired kidney function. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
Liver
MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with impaired liver function. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
Allergy
Do not receive MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION if you are allergic to Mitomycin, and/or any other ingredients of this medicine.
Lungs
MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with impaired lung function. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
Others
MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION is not recommended for use if you:
- have pancytopenia (reduction in all types of blood cells)
- have leukopenia (reduction in isolated white blood cells)
- have thrombocytopenia (reduction in number of platelets)
- have a tendency of bleeding
- suffer from acute infection
- have perforation in the bladder wall.
Before receiving MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you:
- have a bad state of general heath
- suffer from bone marrow depression and inflammation of urinary bladder
- are undergoing radiation therapy
- are immunized with a live virus vaccine.
Use in Paediatrics:
MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Consult your doctor before administering the medicine to the child.
Use in Geriatrics:
MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION should be used with caution in the elderly patients (aged 65 years/above). Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.
Interactions
A. Drug – Drug Interactions:
Before receiving MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- other cytostatic agents (used to manage cancer) Ex. paclitaxel, cisplatin
- vitamin B6 (used to manage/prevent B6 deficiency)
Overdosage:
MITOMYCIN C 2MG INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, if you have been administered accidentally a higher dose of medicine you may experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, fever, and/or blood disorders.
