Introduction About MINIRIN MELT 60MCG TABLET
MINIRIN MELT 60MCG TABLET contains Desmopressin which belongs to the group of medicines called Synthetic antidiuretic peptide. It is used to manage cranial diabetes insipidus (occurs when there's not enough AVP in the body to regulate urine production). It also used to manage primary nocturnal enuresis (bed wetting from the age of 5) and nocturia in adults up to 65 years (night-time urine production exceeding bladder capacity).
Desmopressin works by reducing the amount of water that is eliminated in the urine. It enhances the reabsorption of water in the kidneys. Avoid drinking large amounts of water or fluid during this medication that leads to a build-up of water resulting in dilution of the salt in the body and may cause a serious problems or convulsions.
Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you are dehydrated due to vomiting, diarrhea or systemic infections. There is an increased risk of pre-eclampsia during this medication, so inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. MINIRIN MELT 60MCG TABLET should be used with caution in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor for advice.
The most common side effect of taking MINIRIN MELT 60MCG TABLET are headache, stomach pain swelling of ankles. Consult your doctor for advice if you experience the above side effects for a long duration.
Uses Of MINIRIN MELT 60MCG TABLET
It is used to manage:
- cranial diabetes insipidus
- primary nocturnal enuresis
- nocturia (in adults up to 65 years of age)
How MINIRIN MELT 60MCG TABLET Works
MINIRIN MELT 60MCG TABLET mimics the action of endogenous anti-diuretic hormone. After administration, desmopressin works by reducing the amount of water that is eliminated in the urine. It enhances the reabsorption of water in the kidneys.
How to use MINIRIN MELT 60MCG TABLET
Always take MINIRIN MELT 60MCG TABLET as directed by your doctor. Your doctor will decide the correct dose for you depending upon your condition. Avoid drinking large amounts of water while taking MINIRIN MELT 60MCG TABLET since it could lead to a build-up of water leading to serious problems or convulsions.
For Tablet, Capsule: Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
For Mouth Dissolving Tablet: It should be placed under the tongue where it dissolves without the need for water.

How To Manage Side Effects
Constipation
Eat fibre rich foods like fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals. Drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.
Diarrhea
Drink lots of fluids, such as water or juice, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any medicines without speaking to a doctor.
Headache
Rest and drink plenty of fluids. Do not drink too much alcohol.
Stomach Pain
Try to rest and relax. You can eat and drink slowly or have smaller and frequent meals. Keeping a heat pad on your stomach may also help. If still pain persists, consult your doctor.

Others
MINIRIN MELT 60MCG TABLET is not recommended if you have:
- hyponatraemia (serum sodium levels below normal range)
- syndrome of inappropriate secretion of anti-diuretic hormone, a hormone regulating urine production (SIADH)
Before taking MINIRIN MELT 60MCG TABLET, tell your doctor if you have:
- an illness causing fluid and/or salt imbalance (e.g. vomiting, diarrhea, systemic infections, fever or gastroenteritis)
- a medical condition that could be made worse by fluid and/or electrolyte disturbance
- cystic fibrosis
- difficulty in passing water
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Before taking MINIRIN MELT 60MCG TABLET inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- medicine used to manage depression or epilepsy (fluoxetine, phenytoin)
- medicine used for pain and/or inflammation (e.g. indomethacin, aspirin)
- other diuretic medicine (e.g. furosemide)
- loperamide (used for diarrhea)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of MINIRIN MELT 60MCG TABLET consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
