    Introduction About MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET

    MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET is a combination of Methotrexate and Folic acid which belongs to the group of medicines called Antimetabolites and Vitamins respectively. It is used in the management of Rheumatoid arthritis and Osteoarthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune and inflammatory disease, which means that immune system attacks healthy cells in the body by mistake, causing inflammation (painful swelling) in the affected parts of the body. Osteoarthritis occurs when the protective cartilage that cushions the ends of the bones wears down over time. It commonly affects joints in the hands, knees, hips and spine. Psoriasis is an autoimmune condition that causes inflammation of skin.

    Your doctor may check your blood and urine samples and make sure your liver and kidneys are working normally while you are taking this medicine. MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET is not recommended in patients having severe liver disease, alcoholic liver disease or active hepatitis (inflammation of liver). It should be used with caution in patients having mild to moderate liver problems. MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET is not recommended in patients with severe kidney diseases, particularly patients which require kidney dialysis. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET as it may make you dizzier. MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET is not recommended in pregnant and breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it. The most common side effects of MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET are headache, dizziness, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects worsen.

    It is used to manage:

    • rheumatoid arthritis
    • psoriasis (skin disease)
    • osteoarthritis

    How MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET Works

    MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET is a combination of Methotrexate and Folic Acid. Methotrexate works in autoimmune disease by decreasing the activity of body's immune system and manages the body from attacking itself. Folic acid, a form of vitamin B is added to manage Folic Acid deficiency caused by Methotrexate.

    How to use MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET

    Take MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will determine the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET

    Common

    • nausea, vomiting
    • loss of appetite
    • dyspepsia
    • abdominal pain
    • increased liver enzymes
    • stomatitis (inflammation of the mouth)

    Rare

    Stop taking MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • signs of severe allergic reactions (wheezing, breathing difficulties, swelling of eyelids, face, or lips, rashes or itching which is seen throughout the body, and coughing or spitting up blood)
    • signs of frequent infections (sore throat, mouth ulcers, fever, chills and pain during management)
    • signs of lung inflammation (breathlessness, persistent cough, pain or difficulty in breathing or becoming breathless particularly after exercise)
    • signs of serious skin reactions (Stevens- Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis accompanied by blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes and genitals)
    • signs of hypersensitivity reactions (such as skin rash, fever and swollen glands)
    • signs of brain abnormalities (loss of coordination, inability to speak or understand speech, weakness and inability to move one side of the body or the whole body and fits)

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Constipation

    Eat plenty of fibre rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.

    Diarrhea

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor.

    Nausea And Vomiting

    Take this medicine with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. Contact your doctor if the symptom is not improving.

    Skin rash Or Itching

    Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use protective clothing when going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. Consult your doctor if the symptom worsens.

    Stomach Pain

    Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and frequent meals. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.

    Pregnancy

    MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Breastfeeding

    MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET is not recommended in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Use with Caution

    MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur while taking MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET.

    Alcohol

    Contraindicated

    Consumption of alcohol is not recommended as it may increase the risk of side effects.

    Kidney

    Consult your doctor

    MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease particularly patients which require kidney dialysis. It should be used with caution in patients having mild to moderate kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Liver

    Consult your doctor

    MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET is not recommended in patients having severe liver disease including fibrosis (abnormal tissue formation in the liver,) alcoholic liver disease or active hepatitis (inflammation of liver. It should be used with caution in patients having mild to moderate liver problems. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Allergy

    Do not take MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET if you are allergic to Methotrexate, Folic acid or any other ingredients of this medicine.

    Use In Geriatrics

    Use with Caution

    MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Others

    MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

    • have serious blood disorders
    • have any active infectious disease

    Before taking MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

    • have any undiagnosed anaemia such as pernicious anaemia
    • have any gastrointestinal problems
    • have ever suffered from mental illness
    • have severe mouth ulcers
    • have diarrhoea
    • have any symptoms or signs of infection
    • have plural effusion
    • have ascites (fluid accumulation in abdomen)
    • are receiving or going to take any vaccine
    • have diabetes
    • have received or going to receive any radiations or ultraviolet radiation

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before taking MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

    • anticonvulsants (medicine used to manage fits and seizures) Ex. phenytoin, diphenylhydantoin, primidone barbiturates carbamazepine valporate
    • pyrimethamine (medicine used to manage malaria)
    • antibiotics (medicines used to manage bacterial infections) Ex. penicillin, sulphonamides, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, neomycin, ciprofloxacin, doxycycline, chloramphenicol nitrofurantoin tetracycline
    • medicines used to manage pain and inflammation (Ex. ibuprofen, indomethacin, azapropazone aspirin)
    • diuretics (medicines used to reduce water retention) Ex. hydrochlorothiazide furosemide, triamterene
    • oral hypoglycaemics (medicines used to manage blood sugar) Ex. metformin
    • olanzapine (medicine used to manage mental disorder called schizophrenia)
    • digoxin (medicine used to manage heart failure)
    • corticosteroids (medicines used to manage inflammation, allergies and joint pain) Ex. leflunomide, ciclosporin
    • cytostatics (medicine used to manage cancer)
    • probenecid and sulfinpyrazone (medicines used to manage gout)
    • medicines used to manage asthma and bronchitis (Ex. theophylline)
    • medicines used to manage stomach ulcers and heart burn (Ex. omeprazole, pantoprazole
    • vitamin preparations (Ex. folic acid)
    • p-aminobenzoic acid (medicine used to manage skin conditions)

    B. Drug-Food interaction: 

    Avoid drinking milk and caffeine intake while taking MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET as it may reduce its absorption. Consult your doctor for advice.

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally took too much of MEXT F 7.5MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
