Introduction About MAXERON 10MG INJECTION
MAXERON 10MG INJECTION contains Metoclopramide which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-emetics. It provides relief from sensations of nausea and vomiting associated with various conditions like chemotherapy, surgeries, radiotherapy, migraine, etc.
Your doctor may perform blood tests during management with MAXERON 10MG INJECTION to monitor your blood pigment (haemoglobin) levels. Your doctor may immediately or permanently stop your management if there are any abnormalities in the levels of blood pigment.
Before receiving MAXERON 10MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are having liver, kidney or heart diseases, porphyria (rare blood disorder), brain problems and also if you are using any other medicines that may affect your heartbeat.
MAXERON 10MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with epilepsy, parkinson’s disease, bleeding, obstruction or tear in stomach or gut, tumour of adrenal gland (pheochromocytoma) and involuntary muscle spasms or if you are taking a medicine used to manage parkinson’s diseases (levodopa).
MAXERON 10MG INJECTION is not recommend for use during the first 3 months of pregnancy and it should be used with caution during pregnancy only if clearly advised by the doctor. It is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk.
MAXERON 10MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in children (below 1 year of age) and should be cautiously used among elderly patients, hence consult your doctor before receiving it. The most common side effects of receiving MAXERON 10MG INJECTION are drowsiness, uncontrollable body movements, diarrhoea, restlessness and feeling weak. Inform your physician immediately if any of the side effect worsens.

How MAXERON 10MG INJECTION Works
MAXERON 10MG INJECTION acts and supresses certain centres called dopamine (brain chemical) centres by decreasing the sensitivity of the nerves that transmit signals from gastrointestinal tract to the vomiting centres in the brain. It also relaxes the muscles of stomach and enhances the motility of gut and manages nausea and vomiting.
How to use MAXERON 10MG INJECTION
MAXERON 10MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as a slow injection (at least 3 minutes) or can be given as an injection into the muscle (intramuscularly). Your doctor will determine the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of MAXERON 10MG INJECTION
Common
- drowsiness
- uncontrollable movements of the body (such as shaking, tics, twisting movements or muscle stiffness or rigidity)
- rigidity and tremor (similar to parkinson’s disease)
- restlessness
- diarrhoea
- feeling weak
- reduced blood pressure
Uncommon
- elevated levels of hormone called prolactin (which cause milk secretion in men and women who are not breastfeeding)
- irregular periods
- hallucinations
- decreased consciousness
- slow heartbeat
- allergy
- visual problems and involuntary upward deviation of the eyeball
Rare
- confusion
- convulsions (fits) especially in patients with a history of epilepsy (seizures)
Inform your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects after receiving MAXERON 10MG INJECTION:
- uncontrollable movements (often head or neck) which may occur in children or young adults
- signs of a brain disorder called neuroleptic malignant syndrome (such as high fever, high blood pressure, convulsions (fits), sweating and production of saliva)
- signs of severe allergic reactions (such as itching
How To Manage Side Effects
Diarrhea
Drink lot of fluids such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Avoid eating high-fat or spicy foods. Inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Tiredness
Drink plenty of fluids and eat a balanced diet and frequent meals. Follow a regular sleep schedule. Inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Kidney

Liver

Others
MAXERON 10MG INJECTION is not recommended for use if you:
- have bleeding, obstruction or a tear in your stomach or gut
- have pheochromocytoma (rare tumour of adrenal gland)
- have involuntary muscle spasms (due to other medicines)
- have epilepsy (seizures or fits)
- have parkinson’s disease (brain disorder causing uncontrollable movements of the body)
- had gastrointestinal surgery (such as pyroplasty) in the last 3 to 4 days
- have abnormal levels of blood pigments (methemoglobinemia or NADH cytochrome b5 deficiency
Before receiving MAXERON 10MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you:
- have problem with the levels of salts in the blood (such as potassium, sodium or magnesium)
- have any brain problems
- are suffering from porphyria (rare inherited blood disorder)
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before receiving MAXERON 10MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you have received or taking any of the following medicines:
- Anti-parkinsonian agents (Ex. levodopa, carbidopa)
- anticholinergics (medicines used to manage stomach cramps and spasms) Ex. dicyclomine, hyoscyamine
- morphine derivatives (medicine used to manage severe pain) Ex. oxycodone, oxymorphone
- sedative medicines (used to manage sleeping disorders, anxiety, panic attacks) Ex. diazepam, lorazepam
- Antidepressants and Antipsychotics (Ex. quetiapine, risperidone, fluoxetine and paroxetine, chlorpromazine)
- medicine used to manage heart failure (Ex. digoxin)
- ciclosporin (used to manage immune problems)
- mivacurium and suxamethonium (medicines used to relax the muscles)
- atovaquone (used to manage pneumonia)
- medicines used to manage pain (Ex. aspirin, paracetamol)
Overdosage:
MAXERON 10MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, inform your doctor if you experience any unusual symptoms such as uncontrollable movements, feeling drowsy, reduced level of consciousness, confusion, hallucinations and cardio-respiratory arrest (loss of function of heart and breathing).
