Introduction About LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY)
LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) contains Lorazepam which belongs to the group of medicines called Antianxiety agents. It is used to manage anxiety or sleeping difficulties due to anxiety which significantly affects routine life. LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) can also be used as a sedative before any operative dental management or surgery.
Anxiety is an emotion which is characterized by feelings of tension, worried and intrusive thoughts, and physical changes like increased blood pressure, sweating, trembling and dizziness. Your doctor might ask you to make some lifestyle changes such as having healthy sleeping and eating habits, managing stress and meditation.
LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) is not recommended for use in patients having lung or liver diseases, myasthenia gravis (very weak or tired muscles), and sleep apnoea (breathing problems while sleeping). It should be used with caution in patients who have kidney diseases, habitual excessive use of drugs or alcohol, personality disorders, depression, history of psychotic illness, history of convulsions, and glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye).
LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) should be used with caution in pregnant women. LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) should be used with caution in elderly patients. LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) should not be used in children below 5 years of age.
The most common side effects of taking this medicine are sedation (sleepiness), drowsiness, fatigue, confusion, dizziness, muscle weakness, or depression. Ask for your doctor’s advice if any of these side effects worsen or don’t improve.

How LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) Works
LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) acts on certain centres located in the central nervous system. It aids in increasing the levels of a calming chemical in the brain (GABA) which can make you feel calm and relaxed and relieve your anxiety.
How to use LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY)
Take LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) as advised by your doctor. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, condition, and body weight.
Side Effects Of LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY)

- sedation (sleepiness)

- confusion

- unmasking of depression (revealing the signs of depression which were hidden)
- asthenia (loss of strength)

Uncommon

Rare
Stop taking LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) and inform your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- suicidal thoughts and feelings
- severe allergic reaction characterised by swelling of the tongue or throat, throat closing, shortness of breath, nausea or vomiting
- breathing problems
How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea:
Take this medicine with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Ask for your doctor’s advice if your symptom doesn’t improve.
Drowsiness:
Take adequate sleep. Do not involve in rigorous activities. Do not interfere with your sleep cycle. Ask for your doctor’s advice if drowsiness doesn’t improve.

Pregnancy
LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) should be used with caution in pregnant women. Consult with your doctor before taking it.
Breastfeeding
LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or use machinery if you feel sleepy or have altered concentration after taking LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY).
Alcohol
Avoid the use of alcohol while taking LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) as it may increase the sedative effect of the medicine.
Kidney
LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) should be used with caution in patients with kidney diseases such as impaired renal function. Your doctor might prescribe lower doses for you. Consult your doctor before taking LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY).
Liver
LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) is not recommended for use in patients with liver diseases such as severe hepatic impairment. Lower doses may be used in patients who have mild to moderate hepatic insufficiency. Consult your doctor before taking LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY).
Allergy
Do not take LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) if you are allergic to Lorazepam.
Lungs
LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) is not recommended for use in patients having lung diseases such as severe breathing or chest problems. It should be used with caution in patients having other breathing issues. Consult with your doctor before taking LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY).
Others
LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) is not recommended for use in patients who have:
- myasthenia gravis (very tired or weak muscles)
- sleep apnoea (breathing problems while sleeping)
Before taking LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY), inform your doctor if you:
- have or had habitual excessive use of drugs or alcohol
- have personality disorders
- have or had depression
- have a history of psychotic illness
- have a history of convulsions
- have glaucoma (increased pressure within the eye)
- are weak
- have lactose intolerance
Use in paediatrics:
LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) is not recommended for use in children below 5 years of age. Consult with your doctor before taking LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY).
Use in geriatrics:
LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) should be used with caution in elderly patients. Your doctor might prescribe you with lower doses. Consult with your doctor before taking LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY).
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Inform your physician if you are taking any of the following drugs before taking LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY):
- sedatives such as zolpidem, eszopiclone, anti-anxiety drugs such as citalopram, antidepressants such as paroxetine, sertraline, and anti-psychotics such as loxapine, clozapine (used to manage depression, anxiety, mood disorders, sleep disturbances)
- opioids such as codeine and oxymorphone (used to manage severe pain)
- sodium valproate (used to manage epilepsy)
- antihistamines such as cetirizine and loratadine (used to manage allergies)
- anaesthetics such as ketamine and propofol (used in surgeries)
- theophylline, aminophylline (used to manage asthma)
- probenecid (used to manage gout)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY), consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.

LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) is an antianxiety medicine which belongs to the group of medicines called benzodiazepines. There are chances that tolerance to benzodiazepines may occur. Therefore, the beneficial effect of LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) may be less apparent after several weeks of use. Talk with your doctor if you feel any such symptoms.
Is LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) a habit-forming drug?
The risk of dependence on LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) increases if you are taking a higher dose and for longer durations. Also, it is more in patients who have a history of drug abuse, alcohol abuse or personality disorders. Before taking LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY), you must inform your doctor if any of these apply to you.
Can I stop taking LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) if I start to feel better?
You must not stop taking LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) until and unless your doctor asks you to. LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) should be gradually stopped. Stopping suddenly may result in withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, muscle pain, dizziness, nausea, diarrhoea, anxiety, tension, depression, restlessness, loss of appetite, irritability, agitation, confusion, shaking, stomach pain, changes in heart rate, short-term memory loss, high body temperature and sweating. You may get back into the same condition you were in before taking LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY). If at all you wish to discontinue the medicine, ask for your doctor’s advice.
Does LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) affects my ability to drive?
LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) may make you sleepy or affect your concentration, particularly if you have not had enough sleep. Do not drive or use machinery if you feel sleepy or have altered concentration after taking LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY). You can resume your activities once you feel normal again.
Can LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) be used in children?
LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) is not recommended for use in children below 5 years of age. Also, it is not recommended for use in children for anxiety and sleeping problems. Consult with your doctor before giving it to your child.
How to manage if I forget to take a dose of LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY)?
If you forget to take LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) for anxiety and if it is less than 3 hours from your usual time, take it as soon as you remember. If more than 3 hours have passed from when you usually take the medicine, take your next tablet when it is due. Do not take a double dose of LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) to make up for a forgotten dose. If you forget to take the medicine for sleeping problems, take it only if you will be able to sleep for 7 to 8 hours after taking LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY). If you have any further questions, consult with your doctor before taking the medicine.
Is LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) safe to use in elderly patients?
LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) should be used with caution in elderly patients. Your doctor might prescribe you with lower doses. LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) can make some elderly patients feel dizzy and put them in danger of falling. Consult with your doctor before taking LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY).
Can LOZEP 2MG TABLET (PSY) be given to pregnant and breastfeeding women?
