Introduction About LOZEP 2 INJECTION
LOZEP 2 INJECTION contains Lorazepam, which belongs to the group of medicines called Antianxiety agents. It is used to relieve anxiety, muscle tension, and excitement or agitation and controls convulsions (fits). LOZEP 2 INJECTION can also be used as a pre-medication before any operation or prolonged investigations.
Anxiety is an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried and intrusive thoughts, and physical changes like increased blood pressure, sweating, trembling and dizziness. Your doctor might ask you to make some lifestyle changes, such as having healthy sleeping and eating habits and managing stress through meditation.
LOZEP 2 INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients having lung or liver diseases, myasthenia gravis (very weak or tired muscles), and sleep apnoea (breathing problems while sleeping). It should be used with caution in patients who have kidney diseases, habitual excessive use of drugs or alcohol, personality disorders, depression, history of psychotic illness, history of convulsions, and glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye).
LOZEP 2 INJECTION must be used with caution in pregnant women. LOZEP 2 INJECTION is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. LOZEP 2 INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients. LOZEP 2 INJECTION should not be used in children below 12 years of age.
The most common side effects of receiving this medicine are sedation (sleepiness), drowsiness, lack of energy, confusion dizziness, muscle weakness, or depression. Consult your doctor if any of your symptoms get worse or persist.

How LOZEP 2 INJECTION Works
LOZEP 2 INJECTION acts on certain centres located in the central nervous system. It aids in increasing the levels of a calming chemical in the brain which can make you feel calm, relaxed and relieved.
How to use LOZEP 2 INJECTION
LOZEP 2 INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein or a muscle as an intravenous or intramuscular infusion respectively. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, disease condition and body weight.
Side Effects Of LOZEP 2 INJECTION
Common
- sedation (sleepiness)
- drowsiness
- tiredness
- confusion
- dizziness
- muscle weakness
- lack of energy
- depression
- unmasking of depression (revealing the signs of depression which were hidden)
- lack of muscle coordination
Uncommon
- nausea
- change in libido
- impotence
- decreased orgasm
Rare
Stop receiving LOZEP 2 INJECTION and inform your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- suicidal thoughts and feelings
- changes in mental state
- anaphylaxis which is a severe allergic reaction characterised by swelling of the tongue or throat, throat closing, shortness of breath, swelling of hands and feet
- angioedema which causes swelling of the throat and face
- breathing problems
- signs of jaundice which include yellowing of skin and whites of the eyes
How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea:
Receive this medicine with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Ask for your doctor’s advice if your symptoms do not improve.
Drowsiness:
Take adequate sleep. Do not involve in rigorous activities. Do not interfere with your sleep cycle. Ask for your doctor’s advice if your symptoms do not improve.
Warning & Precautions
Pregnancy
LOZEP 2 INJECTION should be used with caution in pregnant women. Consult with your doctor before receiving it.
Breastfeeding
LOZEP 2 INJECTION should be used with caution in breastfeeding women as it may pass through breast milk. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or use machinery if you feel sleepy or dizzy after receiving LOZEP 2 INJECTION.
Alcohol
Avoid the use of alcohol for at least 24 to 48 hours after receiving LOZEP 2 INJECTION.
Kidney
LOZEP 2 INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney diseases such as impaired renal function. Your doctor might prescribe lower doses for you. Consult your doctor before receiving LOZEP 2 INJECTION.
Liver
LOZEP 2 INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with liver diseases such as severe hepatic impairment. Lower doses may be used in patients who have mild to moderate hepatic insufficiency. Consult your doctor before receiving LOZEP 2 INJECTION.
Allergy
Before receiving LOZEP 2 INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are allergic to Lorazepam.
Lungs
LOZEP 2 INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients having lung diseases such as severe breathing or chest problems. It should be used with caution in patients having other breathing issues. Consult with your doctor before receiving LOZEP 2 INJECTION.
Others
LOZEP 2 INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients who have:
- myasthenia gravis (very tired or weak muscles)
- sleep apnoea (breathing problems while sleeping)
Before receiving LOZEP 2 INJECTION, inform your doctor if you:
- have or had habitual excessive use of drugs or alcohol
- have personality disorders
- have or had depression
- have a history of psychotic illness
- have a history of convulsions
- have glaucoma (increased pressure within the eye)
- are weak
- have lactose intolerance
Use in paediatrics:
LOZEP 2 INJECTION is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age. Consult with your doctor before receiving LOZEP 2 INJECTION.
Use in geriatrics:
LOZEP 2 INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients. Your doctor might prescribe you with lower doses. Consult with your doctor before receiving LOZEP 2 INJECTION.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Inform your physician if you are taking any of the following drugs before receiving LOZEP 2 INJECTION:
- sedatives such as zolpidem, eszopiclone, anti-anxiety drugs such as citalopram, antidepressants such as paroxetine, sertraline, chlorpromazine, clozapine and haloperidol (used to manage depression, anxiety, mood disorders, sleep disturbances)
- methadone, opioids such as codeine, oxymorphone (used to manage severe pain)
- sodium valproate (used to manage epilepsy)
- antihistamines such as cetirizine, and loratadine (used to manage allergies)
- theophylline, aminophylline (used to manage respiratory diseases)
- probenecid (used to manage gout)
- scopolamine (used in motion sickness and surgeries)
Overdosage:
LOZEP 2 INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms.

On stopping LOZEP 2 INJECTION you may experience headaches, muscle or stomach pains, tension, depression, anxiety, restlessness, sweating, sleep problems, confusion, or irritability. If at all you wish to discontinue the medicine, ask for your doctor’s advice.
Does LOZEP 2 INJECTION affects my ability to drive?
LOZEP 2 INJECTION may make you sleepy or dizzy. Do not drive or use machinery for 24 to 48 hours if you feel sleepy or dizzy after receiving LOZEP 2 INJECTION. You can resume your activities once you feel normal again.
Can LOZEP 2 INJECTION be used in children?
LOZEP 2 INJECTION is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age. Also, it is not recommended for use in children for anxiety and sleeping problems. Consult with your doctor before using it for your child.
Is LOZEP 2 INJECTION safe to use in elderly patients?
