Introduction About LESURIDE 25MG(L)
LESURIDE 25MG(L) contains Levosulpiride which belongs to the group of medicines called Prokinetic agents. It is used to manage nausea, vomiting and indigestion. It can also be used to manage diabetic gastroparesis.
Diabetic gastroparesis is a stomach condition caused due to poorly controlled diabetes. It manages the stomach muscles from emptying its digested contents into the intestines. This creates a feeling of fullness even after eating only a little amount of food along with nausea and lack of appetite.
Before taking LESURIDE 25MG(L) inform your doctor if you have any kidney or heart problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have epilepsy, mania or any other mental illness as a precaution.
LESURIDE 25MG(L) is not recommended for use in patients having bleeding or any blockage or tear in the gut. It is also not suitable for use in patients having cancer or tumours in the body. Do not take LESURIDE 25MG(L) without consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

It is used to manage:

How LESURIDE 25MG(L) Works
LESURIDE 25MG(L) is a prokinetic medicine with anti-emetic and anti-dyspeptic properties. It acts by blocking the actions of certain chemical messengers (dopamine) in the brain that controls the movement of stomach muscles. This action improves muscle movement in the stomach (gastric motility) and reduces the unpleasant symptoms of GI tract (such as nausea, vomiting, indigestion, sensation of fullness and lack of appetite).
How to use LESURIDE 25MG(L)
Take LESURIDE 25MG(L) as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop taking LESURIDE 25MG(L) unless your doctor advice you to stop.

Rare

- signs of Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (such as high fever, rigid muscles, mood swings, fast or irregular heartbeat, changes in blood pressure, increased sweating)
- feeling dizzy or faint while standing up
- severe skin reactions (such as redness, blistering, peeling of skin and bleeding in the lips, eyes, mouth, nose and genitals with fever)
- chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat, difficulty in breathing, feeling faint
How To Manage Side Effects
Headache:
Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your headache. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.
Drowsiness:
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling drowsy. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your drowsiness. Consult your doctor if your drowsiness worsens.

Driving and Using Machines

Alcohol

Kidney
LESURIDE 25MG(L) should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Therefore, consult with your doctor before taking it.
Allergy

Heart Disease

- have pheochromocytoma (tumours of the adrenal gland)

- have manic depression (alternative episodes of excitement and sadness)
- have bloody stools or bleeding in the gut
- have blockage or tear in the intestines

- have or had a previous history of stroke or problems in blood circulation
Use in pediatrics:
LESURIDE 25MG(L) should be used in children and adolescents (aged 14 years or above) only if prescribed by the physician. It is not recommended for use in children aged below 14 years due to lack of safety data. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice.
Use in geriatrics:
LESURIDE 25MG(L) should be used with caution in elderly patients. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

- levodopa, ropinirole (medicines used to manage Parkinsonism)
- medicines used to manage high blood pressure (such as propranolol, atenolol, amlodipine, diltiazem, clonidine, ramipril, azilsartan)
- medicines used to manage irregular heartbeat (such as digitalis, quinidine, disopyramide, amiodarone, sotalol)
- medicines that can remove potassium from the body such as diuretics (Ex. furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide)
- amphotericin B (a medicine used to manage fungal infection)
- laxatives (used to manage constipation) Ex. lactulose, calcium dobesilate
- corticosteroids (used to manage pain and inflammation) Ex. prednisolone, dexamethasone, hydrocortisone
- tetracosectides (a diagnostic agent used for screening problems of adrenal gland)
- medicines used to manage severe tics (such as pimozide)
- medicine used to manage mental illness or depression (such as haloperidol, lithium, imipramine, thioridazine, sulpiride)
- methadone (a medicine used to manage drug addiction)
- other medicines used to manage stomach disorders (such as cisapride, aluminium hydroxide, sucralfate)
- erythromycin (a medicine used to manage bacterial infections)
- halofantrine (a medicine used to manage malaria)
- pentamidine (a medicine used to manage pneumonia)
- medicines used to manage anxiety (such as diazepam, clonazepam, pentobarbital, phenobarbital)
- narcotic analgesics (used for pain relief) Ex. morphine, fentanyl, pethidine
