Introduction About LAZON 2.5MG TABLET
LAZON 2.5MG TABLET contains Metolazone which belongs to the group of medicines called Diuretics. It is used for the management of hypertension. Hypertension is defined as persistently increased blood pressure, that can show symptoms like headache, sweating, fast heartbeat, or throbbing sensation.
LAZON 2.5MG TABLET is also used to manage oedema accompanying congestive heart failure and renal failure. Fluid regularly drains into body tissues from the blood. When this fluid isn’t removed from the tissue, fluid retention (oedema) occurs, causing symptoms like swelling and aching of affected body parts such as feet, ankles, or hands.
Prior to the management, your doctor may want you to take several blood tests to understand your existing condition.
Avoid consumption of alcohol with LAZON 2.5MG TABLET as it may drop your blood pressure. LAZON 2.5MG TABLET is not recommended for patients who have an inability to urinate or electrolyte disbalance and have comatose condition due to liver cirrhosis.
Before taking LAZON 2.5MG TABLET inform your doctor if you have kidney disorder, rheumatism, diabetes, infection, eye problems, or you are about to have any surgery. LAZON 2.5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant and breast-feeding women. Consult with your doctor for advice.
Safety and effectiveness of LAZON 2.5MG TABLET in children have not been established. It should be used with caution in elderly with reduced kidney function. The most common side effects of taking LAZON 2.5MG TABLET are nausea, vomiting, congestion, diarrhoea, muscle cramps, headache, dizziness, and tiredness. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

How LAZON 2.5MG TABLET Works
LAZON 2.5MG TABLET works by inhibiting sodium transport across the kidney resulting in a decrease in sodium reabsorption and an increase in sodium, chloride, and water excretion. This causes a decrease in the volume of fluid in the body and diuresis (increased urinary excretion) resolves fluid retention and contributing to the antihypertensive effect.
How to use LAZON 2.5MG TABLET
Take LAZON 2.5MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of LAZON 2.5MG TABLET
Common
- nausea, vomiting, congestion and diarrhea
- muscle cramps
- headache
- dizziness and tiredness
- low levels of potassium, sodium and chloride in the blood
- high levels of uric acid, urea and creatinine and sugar in the blood
- glucose in the urine
Uncommon
- reduced number of white blood cells (leukopenia)
- skin rash
- inflammation in the blood vessels
- gout
Rare
- reduced number of red blood cells and platelets in the blood
- high levels of calcium in the blood
- low levels of magnesium in the blood
- hepatitis, intrahepatic cholestasis (build up of bile in liver)
- kidney failure
Stop taking LAZON 2.5MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- reduced white blood cell count (flu-like symptoms, sore throat/pharynx/mouth, extreme tiredness, or urinary problems)
- a severe skin reaction (painful red area developing into large blisters then peeling of layers of skin)
How To Manage Side Effects

Diarrhea
Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor. Ask for your doctor’s advice if diarrhea doesn’t improve.

Dizziness Or Drowsiness
Lie, or sit down immediately when you feel dizzy. If you're feeling severe episode of spinning(vertigo), lie in a dark and quite place with eyes closed. Try to avoid vehicle driving. Discuss with your doctor if the symptom worsens.

Headache
Try to take rest and don’t involve yourself in exertive activities. Rest in a quiet and dark room. Apply a pain-relieving balm on your forehead. Ask for your doctor’s advice if headache doesn’t improve.

Nausea And Vomiting
Take this medicine with or after meals. Stick to simple meals while taking this medicine. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Do not take any medication on your own. Ask for your doctor’s advice if nausea doesn’t improve. Drink clear or ice-cold drinks. Eat light, bland foods and avoid fried, oily, or sweet foods. Avoid carbonated drinks. Ask for your doctor’s advice if vomiting doesn’t improve.

Driving and Using Machines
Use with CautionThe effects of LAZON 2.5MG TABLET on the ability to drive and use machines have not been studied. However, do not drive or operate any machines if you feel drowsy, dizzy or tired after taking it.

Alcohol
Consult your doctorAvoid consumption of alcohol while taking LAZON 2.5MG TABLET as it may further drop your blood pressure and make you feel dizzy, feeble, and extremely tired.

Kidney
Use with CautionLAZON 2.5MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Liver
ContraindicatedLAZON 2.5MG TABLET is not recommended in patients with liver diseases such as in cases of coma or comatose state which is due to liver cirrhosis. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Allergy
ContraindicatedDo not take LAZON 2.5MG TABLET if you are allergic to Metolazone or any other ingredient of this medicine.

LAZON 2.5MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- are not able to urinate
- have a serious electrolyte imbalance in your blood

- are about to have any surgery

A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking LAZON 2.5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- lithium (used to manage mood disorders)
- digoxin (used to manage heart insufficiency)
- medicines used to manage pain, fever, and inflammation (Ex. aspirin, naproxen)
- ciclosporin (used after organ transplantation)
- medicines used to manage heart problems like high blood pressure, heart failure (Ex. furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide, chlorthalidone, enalapril, captopril, sotalol, valsartan, telmisartan)
- warfarin (used to manage blood clotting)
- medicines used to manage high blood sugar levels (Ex. insulin, metformin, glyburide)
- medicines used to manage inflammation (Ex. prednisolone, hydrocortisone)
- Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH) (a pituitary hormone used to manage infections)
- medicines used to manage insomnia, anxiety, fits (Ex. phenobarbital, pentobarbital)
- medicines used to manage severe pain (Ex. codeine, morphine)
- medicines used to manage low blood pressure, asthma, glaucoma, and other diseases (Ex. amphetamine, ephedrine)

Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of LAZON 2.5MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are thirst, nausea, vomiting, disorientation, dizziness, drowsiness, muscle cramps, low blood pressure and irregular heart rate (in severe cases).
