Introduction About LARETOL INJECTION
LARETOL INJECTION contains Calcitriol, which belongs to the class of medications called vitamin D analogs. Calcitriol is indicated in the management of hypocalcemia in patients undergoing chronic renal dialysis. It significantly reduces elevated parathyroid hormone levels and shows improvement in renal osteodystrophy.
LARETOL INJECTION is not recommended for use if you have hypercalcemia (increased levels of calcium levels in the blood) or vitamin D toxicity (high vitamin D levels). Consult your doctor before taking it.
LARETOL INJECTION should not be used during pregnancy unless the potential benefit to the mother justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Consult your doctor for advice. Before using LARETOL INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding, as it is known whether it may pass through the breast milk.
The safety and efficacy of LARETOL INJECTION are not established in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. LARETOL INJECTION should be used with caution with elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking it.
The most common side effects of receiving LARETOL INJECTION are hypercalcemia (high calcium levels in the blood). Consult your doctor if you experience any side effects after receiving LARETOL INJECTION.
Uses Of LARETOL INJECTION
- To manage hypocalcemia in patients undergoing chronic renal dialysis
- Reduces elevated parathyroid hormone levels
How LARETOL INJECTION Works
LARETOL INJECTION elevates the plasma levels of calcium by stimulating intestinal calcium uptake, increasing reabsorption of calcium by the kidneys, and possibly increasing the release of calcium from skeletal stores. It works by helping the body use more of the calcium found in foods or supplements and regulating the body's production of parathyroid hormone.
How to use LARETOL INJECTION
LARETOL INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein (intravenously). Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of LARETOL INJECTION for you depending upon your age, body weight, and disease condition.
