Introduction About LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE
LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE contains Lansoprazole which belongs to the group of medicines called Proton Pump Inhibitors. It is used in the management of intestinal and peptic (stomach) ulcers. Peptic or intestinal ulcers are open sores that form on the inside lining of your stomach and the upper part of your small intestine, causing stomach pain.
LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE is also used to manage reflux oesophagitis (inflammation of lower food pipe due to backflow of acidic stomach material) and Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome (small tumour in the first part of your bowel due to excessive gastrin secretion).
Before taking LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you have severe liver disease, phenylketonuria, osteoporosis or if you are about to have a specific blood test (Chromogranin A). LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women. LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in children.
Your doctor may perform an additional examination (endoscopy) to diagnose your condition or exclude malignant disease and regular blood tests to monitor your levels of magnesium. The most common side effects of taking LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE are dizziness, nausea, headache, diarrhea. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms gets worse over time.

How LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE Works
LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE suppresses stomach acid secretion by specific inhibition of an enzyme system at the secretory surface of stomach cells, that results in blockage of the final step of acid production.
How to use LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE
Take LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE as advised by your physician. Swallow with enough water. Do not crush or chew it. For effective results take LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE at least half an hour before food. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop taking LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE unless your doctor advises you to stop.
Side Effects Of LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE
Common
- headache, dizziness
- diarrhoea, constipation, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, gas
- dry or sore mouth or throat
- skin rash, itching
- tiredness
- benign stomach polyps (pain on pressing the stomach, nausea, blood in stool, anemia)
- altered liver function tests
Uncommon
- depression
- joint or muscle pain
- swelling or fluid retention
- fracture of the back, wrist or hip
- altered blood cell counts
Rare
- fever
- restlessness, drowsiness, confusion, feeling things that are not really there, lack of sleep, visual disturbances, spinning sensation
- altered taste sensation, loss of appetite, inflammation of tongue
- skin reactions (burning or pricking feeling under the skin, bruising, reddening, excessive sweating)
- sensitivity to light
- hair loss
- tingling or prickling sensation, shakiness
- anaemia
- kidney problems
- pancreatitis (abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting)
- breast swelling in males, impotence
- candidiasis (fungal infection of skin or mucosa)
Stop taking LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- angioedema (swollen face, tongue or pharynx, difficulty to swallow or breathe, hives)
- severe hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylactic shock (fever, rash, swelling and sometimes a fall in blood pressure)
- very severe skin reactions causing reddening, blistering, inflammation and skin loss (Ex. Stevens Johnson Syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, erythema multiforme)
- liver inflammation (yellowing of skin or eye)
How To Manage Side Effects
Diarrhoea:
To avoid dehydration, drink ample amount of fluids such as water, fruit juices or electrolytes. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Nausea or vomiting:
Take LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Headache:
Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Rest in a quiet and dark room. Massage the scalp or head gently. Avoid drinking excessive alcohol, as it could make your headache worse. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Dizziness:
Lie or sit down as soon as you start to feel dizzy. If you're having severe episode of spinning, lie in a dark and quite place and close your eyes. Try to avoid vehicle driving. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Skin rash:
Avoid hot showers as it can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use protective clothing when going outdoors and moisturize your skin regularly. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Warning & Precautions

Pregnancy
LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Breastfeeding
LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or operate any machines if you experience dizziness, spinning sensation, tiredness and visual disturbances after taking LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE.

Kidney
No dosage adjustment of LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE is necessary in patients with kidney impairment, however, consult your doctor before taking it.

Liver
LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients having severe liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Allergy
LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use if you are allergic to Lansoprazole or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Others
Before taking LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you:
- have osteoporosis (weak and brittle bones)
- have low level of Vitamin B12
- are about to have a specific blood test (Chromogranin A)
- had a skin reaction when previously managed with any medicine used to reduce acidity
- have phenylketonuria (a rare genetic disorder)
Use in pediatrics:
LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in children. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Use in geriatrics:
No dosage adjustment of LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE is necessary in elderly patients, however, consult your doctor before taking it.
Interactions
A. Drug - Drug interactions:
Before taking LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- medicines used to manage HIV (Ex. atazanavir, nelfinavir)
- methotrexate (used in autoimmune disorders and cancer)
- medicines used to manage infections (Ex. ketoconazole, itraconazole, rifampicin)
- digoxin (used to manage heart problems)
- warfarin (used to stop blood clot formation)
- theophylline (used to manage asthma)
- tacrolimus (used to manage transplant rejection)
- fluvoxamine, St John´s wort (used to manage depression and other psychiatric diseases)
- medicines used to manage heartburn or acid regurgitation (Ex. magnesium hydroxide, calcium carbonate)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.

Does LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE reduce heartburn?
LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE stops the acid secretion in stomach and manages the movement of contents from stomach back up to the food pipe and thus reduces heartburn (burning pain and discomfort felt in the chest and throat).
What is the preferred time to take LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE?
LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE works best if taken on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before food to reduce the amount of acid secretion. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE management for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Can I take LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE along with painkillers?
Yes. LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE can be taken with painkillers because some of the painkillers like aspirin, ibuprofen cause acidity in some patients. LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE reduces the acidity caused by the painkillers. Talk to your doctor for advice.
Does LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE cause dry mouth?
One of the common side effects of LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE is dry or sore mouth. In such case, chew sugar-free gum or suck on sugar-free hard candies to stimulate the flow of saliva. Sip water at regular intervals of time. Do not use alcoholic mouthwashes because they can be drying. If symptom persists, consult your doctor.
What if I forget a dose of LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE?
If you forget to take a dose of LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE, take it as soon as you remember. However, skip that dose if it's almost time for the next dose. Do not take LANZOL 15MG CAPSULE two times to make up for the missed dose.
