Introduction About KEFLOR DROPS
KEFLOR DROPS contains Cefaclor which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage bacterial infections of the respiratory tract (Ex. tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and bronchitis), lung (pneumonia), and sinuses (sinusitis).
KEFLOR DROPS can also be used to manage infections of middle ear (otitis media), skin and soft tissue (Ex. muscle), urinary bladder (Ex. cystitis, pyelonephritis) and kidney. Symptoms of bacterial infections generally include fever, extreme tiredness, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpits, groin or elsewhere, headache, nausea or vomiting.
Before taking KEFLOR DROPS, inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems, history of gastrointestinal disease (Ex. colitis), have diarrhoea while taking antibiotics, or if you had an allergic reaction to penicillins or other medicines in the past. Tell your doctor if you are due to have any blood or urine tests as KEFLOR DROPS may interfere with these tests.
KEFLOR DROPS should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women. KEFLOR DROPS is not recommended for use in children and should be used with caution in elderly patients so, consult your doctor before taking it.
The most common side effects of taking KEFLOR DROPS are diarrhoea, itching in genital area, moniliasis (fungal infection), vaginitis (vaginal inflammation with pain, discharge, and itchiness), etc. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen or does not improve.
Uses Of KEFLOR DROPS
Manages bacterial infections that occur in:
- respiratory tract (Ex. tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and bronchitis)
- lung (pneumonia)
- sinuses (sinusitis)
- middle ear (otitis media)
- skin and soft tissue (Ex. muscle)
- urinary bladder (Ex. cystitis, pyelonephritis) and kidney
How KEFLOR DROPS Works
KEFLOR DROPS effectively kills the bacteria that causes infection by inactivating certain proteins (penicillin binding proteins) which are necessary for the bacterial cell wall integrity and strength, thereby damaging the cell wall and resulting in bacterial cell death.
How to use KEFLOR DROPS
Take KEFLOR DROPS as advised by your physician. Add water to the dry powder and shake to disperse. To help with dispersion, you can add water in two portions, with shaking between each addition. Dose and duration of KEFLOR DROPS management will be decided by your physician depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of KEFLOR DROPS
Common
- gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhoea
- high eosinophil count in blood (fever, night sweats, swelling, weakness)
- itching in genital area, moniliasis (fungal infection), or vaginitis (vaginal inflammation with pain, discharge, and itchiness)
- increased levels of certain liver enzymes
Uncommon
- itching, hives
- signs of serum-sickness-like reactions including erythema multiforme, rashes, and other skin manifestations which is accompanied by joint pain with or without fever
Rare
- nausea, vomiting
- hypersensitivity reactions like serious skin rashes including Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis characterized by reddish target-like macules or circular patch, skin peeling, ulcers of mouth, throat, nose, genitals, and eyes along with fever and flu-like symptoms
- anaphylaxis reaction (life threatening allergic condition)
- low blood platelet count (easy bleeding or bruising)
- reversible interstitial nephritis (a kidney disease causing loss of appetite, decreased urinary output, fatigue)
- reversible hyperactivity, nervousness, agitation, inability to sleep, confusion, hypertonia or muscle stiffness, hallucinations, dizziness, or drowsiness
- blood disorders (Ex. aplastic anemia, haemolytic anemia, agranulocytosis, reversible neutropenia)
Stop taking KEFLOR DROPS and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- serious allergic reactions (sudden wheezing, breathing difficulty, swelling of the face, eyelids, limbs or lips, rash or itching, especially affecting the whole body)
- serious skin blistering or peeling
- severe diarrhoea, possibly with mucus or blood
How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea or Vomiting:
Take KEFLOR DROPS with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Try to avoid oil rich or spicy foods, sugary snacks, and aerated drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid or water along with your meals, and slowly drink in between meals. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Diarrhoea:
Drinking plenty of water and other electrolyte balanced fluids (like diluted fruit juices, broths, sports drinks, and caffeine-free sodas) will help with hydration. Try to eat less high-fat foods, like meat, eggs, and cheese. Exercise more regularly. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Dizziness:
Lie, or sit down immediately when you feel dizzy. If you have a spinning sensation, lie in a dark and quite place with eyes closed. Try to avoid vehicle driving. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Warning & Precautions

Pregnancy
KEFLOR DROPS should be used with caution in women who are pregnant, think they might be pregnant or planning to have a baby. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Breastfeeding
KEFLOR DROPS should be used with caution in breastfeeding woman. Consult your doctor for advice.

Driving and Using Machines
KEFLOR DROPS has no effects on driving and using machines. However, consult your doctor for advice.

Kidney
KEFLOR DROPS should be used with caution in patients having severe kidney problems or patients receiving dialysis. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Liver
KEFLOR DROPS should be used with caution in patients having liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Allergy
Do not take KEFLOR DROPS if you are allergic to Cefaclor, other cephalosporin antibiotics, penicillin antibiotics or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Others
Before taking KEFLOR DROPS, inform your doctor if you have:
- a history of gastrointestinal disease especially colitis (inflammation of colon)
- diarrhoea (while taking antibiotics)
Use in pediatrics:
Your doctor will prescribe the right dose of KEFLOR DROPS for child (older than one month of age) depending on their age, body weight and health condition. Consult your child’s doctor for advice.
Use in geriatrics:
No dosage changes of KEFLOR DROPS are necessary in elderly patients with normal kidney function. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Interactions
A. Drug - Drug interactions:
Before taking KEFLOR DROPS, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- warfarin (used as a blood thinner to manage clotting of blood)
- probenecid (used to manage gout)
- medicines used to manage acidity (Ex. aluminium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of KEFLOR DROPS, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Signs and symptoms of overdose include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and pain or discomfort in the upper abdomen.

Can KEFLOR DROPS interfere with any blood tests?

What should I do if I forget to take KEFLOR DROPS?
If you forget to take a dose of KEFLOR DROPS by chance, try to take it as soon as you notice. However, if the time for next dose is closer, skip the missed dose and do not double it.
Can I stop taking KEFLOR DROPS on my own?
Continue taking KEFLOR DROPS until your doctor tells you to stop, unless you experience any unwanted effects like an allergic reaction (sudden wheezing, breathing difficulty, swelling of the face, eyelids, limbs or lips, rash or itching), serious blistering or peeling of the skin, severe diarrhoea (possibly with mucus or blood), worsening of your condition or any new symptoms. Contact your doctor in such situation.
