KALLISTRO 3MIU INJECTION contains colistin, which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage certain forms of serious bacterial infections when other antibiotics are not suitable. It is clinically effective in managing various infections caused by certain gram-negative bacteria, such as Aerobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
A bacterial infection can be defined as a proliferation of various harmful strains of bacteria in the body. They can affect any part(s) of the body, including the respiratory tract, urinary tract, eyes, ears, skin, soft tissue, or bones.
Colistin is a polypeptide antibiotic. It binds to the susceptible bacteria and disrupts the composition (lipids and proteins) of the bacterial cell membrane. As a result, it makes the contents of the bacterial cell leak out, which subsequently leads to bacterial killing. It may also inactivate the toxins produced by the bacteria.

- Kidney damage with symptoms such as little or no urination, painful or difficult urination, swelling in your feet or ankles, feeling tired or short of breath

- Other antibiotics such as aminoglycosides (Ex. netilmicin, gentamicin, amikacin, and tobramycin), cephalosporins (Ex. cefixime, ceftriaxone), macrolides (Ex. azithromycin, clarithromycin, or erythromycin), or fluoroquinolones (ofloxacin, norfloxacin, and ciprofloxacin)
- Muscle relaxant medications (used for relaxing muscles before surgery) Ex. atracurium, vecuronium
