    INTRODUCTION ABOUT ISOLIN 2MG INJECTION

    ISOLIN 2MG INJECTION contains Isoprenaline which belongs to the group of medicines called Sympathomimetics. It is used for the management of slow heart rate in patients who are waiting for the insertion of a pacemaker or when the use of pacemaker is contraindicated.

    It is also used in sudden fainting with loss of consciousness caused by a slowing of heart rate, also called as Stokes-Adams syndrome. Your doctor might want you to take certain tests prior to the management with this medicine.

    ISOLIN 2MG INJECTION is not recommended for use if you have certain heart rhythm disorders, forms of angina pectoris or digitalis intoxication, heart is stressed (atrial or ventricular hyperexcitability), heart attack, chest pain or irregular heartbeat (ventricular arrhythmia) that requires management.

    Before receiving ISOLIN 2MG INJECTION inform your doctor if you have kidney, heart problems, diabetes, overactive thyroid gland, convulsive disorders or low blood volume. It should be used with caution in pregnant women. ISOLIN 2MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. The common side effects of ISOLIN 2MG INJECTION are nausea, headache, hot flashes. Consult your doctor if symptoms do not improve.

    USES OF ISOLIN 2MG INJECTION

    • Used to manage Adams Stokes attacks (sudden fainting and loss of consciousness)
    • Used for the management of slow heart rate in patients waiting for the insertion of a pacemaker

    HOW ISOLIN 2MG INJECTION WORKS

    ISOLIN 2MG INJECTION activates beta-1 adrenergic receptors which lead to increased strength of contractility, conduction of nerve impulses, speed of relaxation and rate in the heart. Thus, increasing the blood pressure.

    DIRECTIONS FOR USE

    ISOLIN 2MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as an intravenous infusion. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    SIDE EFFECTS OF ISOLIN 2MG INJECTION

    COMMON

    • increased heart rate
    • nausea
    • flushing
    • headache

    HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

    Nausea:

    Take routine meals and do not eat spicy or oily foods. Drink enough water. Consult your doctor if symptoms do not improve.

    Headache:

    Avoid bright lights, rest and relax. Apply balm on your forehead. Consult your doctor if symptoms do not improve.

    WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

    PREGNANCY

    ISOLIN 2MG INJECTION should be used with caution in pregnant women or women planning to have a baby only if considered necessary by your doctor. Consult your doctor for advice.

    BREASTFEEDING

    ISOLIN 2MG INJECTION is not recommended in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor for advice.

    KIDNEY

    ISOLIN 2MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

    ALLERGY

    Do not receive ISOLIN 2MG INJECTION if you are allergic to Isoprenaline or any other ingredients of this medicine.

    HEART DISEASE

    INTERACTIONS

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before receiving ISOLIN 2MG INJECTION inform your physician if you are taking any of the following medicines:

    • other cardiac or central nervous system stimulants
    • adrenaline, digitalis (a medicine used in intensive care to manage heart problems)
    • monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) (Ex. isocarboxazid), imipramine (medicines used to manage depression)
    • sulphates, such as salicylamide (painkiller)
    • entacapone (used for Parkinson’s disease)
    • doxapram (used in intensive care to increase respiratory rate)
    • ergotamine (to manage acute migraine attacks)
    • sympathomimetic vasoconstrictors (such as oxytocin) used during labor
    • chloroform, cyclopropane or halothane anaesthetics (used in surgery)

    Overdosage:

    ISOLIN 2MG INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital and so you are unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms nausea, headaches, extra heart beats and heart rate acceleration.
