Introduction About INDO MG INJECTION
INDO MG INJECTION contains Indomethacin which belongs to the group of medicines called Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs. It is indicated for the management of (closure) of patent ductus arteriosus in premature infants (weighing 500-1750 g) when the usual 48 hours medical management such as respiratory support, fluid restriction, diuretics, digitalis, etc. becomes ineffective.
Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is an opening between two blood vessels leading from the heart connected to the lungs which fails to close after birth. It is characterised by fast breathing, respiratory distress, shortness of breath, murmur, or fast heart rate.
The child should be monitored carefully at regular intervals to access the response of the therapy. INDO MG INJECTION is contraindicated in neo- nates with proven or suspected infection that is unmanageed, have active intracranial haemorrhage or gastrointestinal bleeding, thrombocytopenia, or coagulation defects.
It is also not recommended in neo- nates who have necrotizing enterocolitis (inflammation of baby’s intestine), impairment of kidney function or congenital heart disease where the patency of ductus arteriosus is necessary for satisfactory pulmonary or systemic blood flow. The most common side effect of INDO MG INJECTIONis injection site reaction such as pain, irritation, or bleeding. Inform the doctor immediately if your child experiences any other unusual side effects.
Uses Of INDO MG INJECTION
- it is used to close patent ductus arteriosus in premature infants (weighing 500-1750 g) when the usual 48 hours medical management becomes ineffective
How INDO MG INJECTION Works
INDO MG INJECTION works by managing the function of enzyme cyclooxygenase-1 and 2 which leads to the stopping of prostaglandins synthesis (chemical substances responsible for pain & inflammation) that results in reduced inflammatory reactions and relief from pain.
How to use INDO MG INJECTION
INDO MG INJECTION will be administered to a pre-mature infant only by a doctor or nurse into the vein (intravenously). The correct dose and duration of the therapy will be decided by the doctor depending upon the age, body weight and diseases condition of the infant at the time of therapy.
