ICUPEN 500MG INJECTION contains Doripenem which belong to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used in adults to manage serious bacterial infections of the respiratory tract (Ex. pneumonia), urinary tract (Ex. pyelonephritis), stomach and blood (Ex. sepsis).
ICUPEN 500MG INJECTION should be used under careful medical supervision. It will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into the vein. Make sure to receive therapy with ICUPEN 500MG INJECTION for the stipulated duration instructed by your doctor. Stopping therapy or skipping doses in between therapy may not control infection effectively.
Before receiving ICUPEN 500MG INJECTION inform your doctor if you have any kidney problems. You must also inform your doctor if you previously experienced diarrhea after taking any antibiotics or have a previous history of stroke or fits as a precaution.

Uses Of ICUPEN 500MG INJECTION
It is used in adults to manage the following serious bacterial infections:
- Pneumonia that is acquired in the hospital setting
- Complicated Urinary tract infections (Ex. kidney infections (pyelonephritis))
- Complicated intra-abdominal infections (infections of areas around the stomach)
- Blood infections (Ex. sepsis)
How ICUPEN 500MG INJECTION Works
ICUPEN 500MG INJECTION is a powerful antibiotic. It kills the susceptible bacteria by interfering with the bacterial cell wall synthesis. It is effective against a wide range of bacteria (including both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria). As a result, it destroys the susceptible bacteria, manages their further growth and multiplication and reduces the severity of the infection.
How to use ICUPEN 500MG INJECTION
ICUPEN 500MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into the vein (intravenously).
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and severity of infection. Do not stop therapy or skip doses in between the therapy to achieve better control over infection.

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of severe allergic reactions (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue causing difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
- severe skin reactions (such as widespread skin rash, blistering, peeling or bleeding on any part of the skin with fever, chills, enlarged lymph nodes and malaise or pink or reddish skin lesions on palms or soles)
- severe bloody diarrhea
How To Manage Side Effects
Diarrhea
Drink plenty of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Consuming ORS can also be beneficial. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor. If your diarrhea worsens, contact your doctor immediately.
Headache
Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your headache. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.
Injection Site Reactions
Place an ice pack at the site of injection. Do not move the affected area. Consult your doctor if the symptom worsens.
Nausea And Vomiting
Stick to simple meals and avoid oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if nausea worsens.
Skin rash Or Itching
Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use protective clothing when going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. Consult your doctor if your skin rash worsens.
