HUMALOG JUNIOR KWIKPEN INJECTION contains Insulin lispro which belongs to the group of medicines called Antidiabetics. It is used in adults and children for the management of diabetes mellitus.
Diabetes mellitus is a disease where the body does not produce enough insulin to control the level of the blood sugar, due to which there is high blood sugar levels causing increased thirst, frequent urination, extreme hunger, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, irritability, blurred vision, slow-healing sores, frequent infections, increased ketone levels in urine.

Use HUMALOG JUNIOR KWIKPEN INJECTION as advised by your physician. It should only be injected under the skin (subcutaneous injection). Do not administer HUMALOG JUNIOR KWIKPEN INJECTION into a vein or muscle. The best areas to inject are the front of your waist (abdomen), upper arms, buttocks, or the front of your thighs. HUMALOG JUNIOR KWIKPEN INJECTION can be given at any time during the day, but at the same time each day.
Change the place within the area where you inject it every day to reduce the risk of developing changes under the skin. Your doctor will decide an appropriate dose and duration of HUMALOG JUNIOR KWIKPEN INJECTION for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop using HUMALOG JUNIOR KWIKPEN INJECTION unless your doctor advises you to stop.
Side Effects Of HUMALOG JUNIOR KWIKPEN INJECTION
Common
- low blood sugar levels (tiredness, fast heartbeat, nervousness, shakiness, nausea, headache, cold sweat)
- local reaction (redness, swelling or itching around the area of the insulin injection)
Uncommon
- lipodystrophy (fatty tissue at injection site may either shrink or thicken)
- cutaneous amyloidosis (lumps under the skin)
Stop using HUMALOG JUNIOR KWIKPEN INJECTION and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- severe allergy (rash over the whole body, blood pressure dropping, difficulty in breathing, heart beating fast, wheezing, sweating)
- signs of heart failure (unusual shortness of breath or rapid increase in weight or localized swelling)
- diabetic ketoacidosis (sleepiness, no appetite, flushed face, fruity smelling breath, thirst, nausea, vomiting, heavy breathing, fast pulse)
How To Manage Side Effects

Headache
Drink plenty of water and get adequate rest. Try to be relaxed and stress free. Call your doctor before taking any medicine for headache. If headache persists, consult your doctor.

Hypoglycemia
Drink a fruit juice, or have eat glucose tablets, sugar or drink a sugary drink. Then eat fruit, biscuits, or a sandwich, as advised by your doctor and have some rest. Check your blood sugar after 10 minutes. If it's still low, take another sugary snack, or drink, and check the blood sugar again. If the sugar levels do not improve, contact your doctor.

Nausea And Vomiting
Take regular sips of a cold drink. Have ginger or peppermint tea. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.

- other antidiabetic agents (Ex. metformin, repaglinide, pioglitazone)
- acetylsalicylic acid (used to relieve pain and lower fever)
- antibiotics (Ex. sulfadiazine, sulfamethizole)
- octreotide (used to manage growth disorders)
- antiasthmatic agents (Ex. salbutamol, terbutaline)
- ritodrine (used to manage premature labour)
- Heart medicines (Ex. metoprolol, atenolol, enalapril, captopril, losartan)
- danazol (medicine acting on ovulation)
- antidepressants (Ex. phenelzine, selegiline)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally inject too much of HUMALOG JUNIOR KWIKPEN INJECTION, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are low blood sugar causing shallow breathing or pale skin.
