Introduction About HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION
HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION contains Doxycycline which belongs to the groups of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used for the management of various bacterial infections like that of respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, eyes, digestive system, bones, blood, etc. HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION is also used to manage sexually transmitted infections (Ex. syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia), plague (spreads through rats), cholera (spreads through contaminated water), brucellosis (spreads from animals to human by eating raw dairy products), anthrax (spreads from sheep or cattle), etc.
HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION can also be used to manage malaria in short-term travellers (<4 months) to areas with chloroquine- and/or pyrimethamine sulphadoxine-resistant strains. It is advised to reduce sun exposure and to use fully covering clothes and sunscreen while going out as there is a chance of getting light sensitivity during management with HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION.
Before receiving HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you have myasthenia gravis, systemic lupus erythematosus, history of intracranial hypertension or oral candidiasis, liver or kidney problems, porphyria or if you are an overweight woman of childbearing age.
There are no adequate and well-controlled studies on the use of HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION in pregnant women. HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION should be used in breastfeeding women only if your doctor finds it necessary. HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION should be used in children (8 years of age or less) only if the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
Avoid consumption of alcohol during HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION management. The most common side effects of receiving HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION are mild diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, light sensitivity, skin rash or itching, headaches and tooth discoloration. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen with time.

Used to

How HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION Works
HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION reduces bacterial infection by blocking protein synthesis of bacteria and thus managing its growth.
How to use HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION
HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as an intravenous infusion. Do not try to self-administer the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION
Common
- mild diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
- light sensitivity
- skin rash or itching
- headaches
- tooth discoloration
Rare
- bloody diarrhea
- low blood cell count
- migraines
- throat irritation or trouble swallowing
- chest pain, shortness of breath, irregular or fast heart rate
- worsening of systemic lupus erythematosus
- painful urination
- high blood pressure in the head
- ulcers in food pipe if taken without water
Stop receiving HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION and contact doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
- Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea (blood in stool, stomach pain, watery stools, dehydration, fever)
- Steven – Johnson syndrome (skin with rashes, blisters, pain along with fever)
- overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, including fungi
- acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (areas with redness and swelling on body along with fever)
- toxic epidermal necrolysis (painful red area without blister formation which spreads quickly and causes skin to peel, fever, chills)
- drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS)
- intra cranial hypertension (headache, blurred or double vision, loss of vision)
- angioedema (swelling in face, lips, mouth, throat with difficulty in swallowing and breathing)
- anaphylactic shock (increased heart rate, over sweating, fall in blood pressure, fainting)
How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea and Vomiting:
Avoid eating fried and greasy food. Take simple, light, small meals at frequent intervals. Drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated always. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Diarrhea:
Drink plenty of water, fluids and electrolytes such as ORS and stay hydrated. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Headache:
Drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated. Try to be tension free and relaxed. Take adequate sleep and rest. Avoid consumption of alcohol. Apply pain balm if required. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Light sensitivity:
Reduce exposure to sunlight. While going out, wear fully covering clothes and apply sunscreen with high SPF. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Skin rashes:
Do not scratch on rashes. Apply mild moisturizers if needed and avoid hot showers. Take an oatmeal bath. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.

Pregnancy
There are no adequate and well-controlled studies on the use of HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before receiving it.

Breastfeeding
HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION should be used in breastfeeding women only if your doctor finds it necessary. Consult your doctor before receiving it.

Alcohol
Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION, as it may reduce the efficacy of this medicine.

Kidney
HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before receiving it.

Liver
HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with liver impairment. Consult your doctor before receiving it.

Allergy
Do not receive HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION if you are allergic to doxycycline, minocycline, tetracycline or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
Others
Before receiving HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you have:
- a history of yeast infections
- porphyria (rare blood disease)
- myasthenia gravis (autoimmune disorder)
- a history of lupus (autoimmune disease)
- recent colitis (inflammation of digestive tract) due to antibiotics use
- intracranial hypertension (high pressure in the head)
Use in pediatrics:
HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION should be used in children (8 years of age or less) only if the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Consult your child’s doctor for advice.
Interactions
A. Drug – Drug interactions:
Before receiving HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- medicines used to manage blood clotting (Ex. heparin, warfarin)
- penicillin (used to manage bacterial infection)
- medicines used to manage or manage acidity (Ex. aluminium hydroxide, magnesium carbonate, calcium carbonate)
- bismuth subsalicylate (used to manage diarrhoea)
- medicines used to manage mood disorders and depression (Ex. phenobarbitone, pentobarbital)
- medicines used to manage fits (Ex. phenytoin, carbamazepine)
- methoxyflurane (used to relieve pain associated with trauma)
- medicine used to manage pregnancy (Ex. ethinylestradiol, norethindrone)
Overdosage:
HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms after receiving HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION.

What precautions have to be followed when receiving HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION?
Use of HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, including fungi. If this occurs, it should be discontinued. Before you take HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION, tell your doctor if you are using, have recently used or might use any other medicines. Before receiving HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION, tell your doctor if you are allergic to doxycycline, minocycline, tetracycline, other medications or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Can HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION cause diarrhea?
Diarrhea is a common problem caused by HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION, which usually ends when the medicine is discontinued. Sometimes after starting the management, you might develop watery and bloody stools (with or without stomach cramps and fever) even as late as two or more months after having taken the last dose of HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION. If this occurs, you should tell the doctor as soon as possible.
Does HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION cause tooth problems?
Yes. The use of HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION during last half of pregnancy, infancy and childhood up to the age of 8 years (tooth development phases) may cause permanent discolouration of the teeth (yellow-grey-brown). Enamel hypoplasia (thin or absent enamel) has also been reported. Consult your doctor for further queries.
Can HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION be used to manage syphilis?
Yes. HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION can be used to manage sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis. The dose and duration of management will be determined by your doctor according to your age, body weight and severity of infection.
Does HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION cause sensitivity to light?
Yes. Photosensitivity (light sensitivity) manifested by a worsening sunburn reaction has been observed in some patients receiving HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION. Patients prone to be exposed to direct sunlight or ultraviolet light should know that this reaction can occur with HETRODOX 100MG INJECTION or similar medicines and management should be discontinued at the first evidence of skin redness.
