Introduction About HEMOTAG TABLET

HEMOTAG TABLET is a combination of Cyanocobalamin, Folic acid and Sodium feredetate which belongs to the group of medicines called Haematinics. It is used for the management of anaemia caused by iron deficiency. Iron deficiency anaemia is when your body can't produce enough haemoglobin (a substance in red blood cells that enables them to carry oxygen), due to insufficient iron.

HEMOTAG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis or in patients receiving repeated blood transfusions or parenteral iron therapy. HEMOTAG TABLET should be given to children only after consulting your doctor about it. Before taking HEMOTAG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have hemolytic anaemia, iron-storage or iron-absorption diseases, gastrointestinal diseases or folate-dependent tumours.

HEMOTAG TABLET should only be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women if your doctor believes it is necessary. The most common side effects of taking HEMOTAG TABLET are hypersensitivity, mild diarrhoea, swollen stomach, gas, loss of appetite and nausea. Consult your doctor if any of your symptoms get worse.

How HEMOTAG TABLET Works

HEMOTAG TABLET increases haemoglobin, where cyanocobalamin and folic acid are essential for the synthesis and repair of DNA and they act as cofactors in biological reactions, which are required to make fresh RBCs, manage anaemia and for the regular working of the brain and nervous system. Sodium fedetate is an important component of haemoglobin and myoglobin (a pigment that stores oxygen in muscle).

How to use HEMOTAG TABLET

Take HEMOTAG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow it with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you based on your age, body weight and disease condition.

Bloating

Eat smaller and more frequent meals. Eat and drink slowly and exercise regularly. If flatulence does not improve, contact your doctor.

Diarrhea

Drink lots of fluids, like water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Check with your doctor before taking any medicine for diarrhoea. If diarrhoea does not get better, contact your doctor.

Loss Of Appetite

Eat when you are hungry. Eat smaller meals more often than usual. Snack only when you're hungry. Eat a nutritious snack rich in calories and protein, such as dried fruit and nuts. If your appetite does not improve, contact your doctor.

Nausea And Vomiting

Take HEMOTAG TABLET with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. If you still feel nauseous, contact your doctor.

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking HEMOTAG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

• dimercaprol (used to manage arsenic, mercury, gold and lead toxicity)
• penicillamine (used to manage arthritis)
• medicines used to manage bacterial infections (Ex. neomycin, para-aminosalicylic acid, ofloxacin, levofloxacin, doxycycline)
• mycophenolate (used to manage certain kidney and skin diseases)
• medicines used to manage Parkinson’s disease (Ex. levodopa, carbidopa)
• thyroxine (used in thyroid hormone deficiency)
• medicines used to manage bone problems (Ex. disodium pamidronate, ibandronate)
• methyldopa (used to reduce blood pressure)
• colchicine (used to manage gout)
• metformin and similar medicines (used to manage diabetes)
• cholestyramine (used to reduce blood cholesterol)
• potassium chloride (used to manage potassium deficiency)
• cimetidine (used to manage stomach ulcers)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of HEMOTAG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
