    Introduction About GUDCEF XL TABLET

    GUDCEF XL TABLET contains Cefpodoxime, Cloxacillin and Lactobacillus which belong to a group of medicines called Cephalosporins, Beta-Lactam group of antibiotics and Probiotics, respectively. GUDCEF XL TABLET helps to manage bacterial infections in various parts of the body involving the respiratory tract, blood (septicemia), the lining of the brain (meningitis), heart (infective endocarditis), genital or urinary tract (gonorrhea), bones (osteomyelitis) or ears, etc.

    Your doctor may advise you to take relevant tests to evaluate the causative agent to manage resistance to the management and your existing condition. GUDCEF XL TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption.

    Before taking GUDCEF XL TABLET, inform your doctor if you have or have ever had impaired kidney function, gastrointestinal disease, colitis, etc. GUDCEF XL TABLET is not recommended for use by pregnant or breastfeeding women. The most common side effects of taking GUDCEF XL TABLET are diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. Consult your doctor immediately if any of your symptoms get worse or persist.

    Uses Of GUDCEF XL TABLET

    • Manage bacterial infections in various parts of the body such as the respiratory tract (pneumonia, bronchitis, pharyngitis, etc.), blood (septicemia), the lining of the brain (meningitis), heart (infective endocarditis), genital or urinary tract (gonorrhoea), bones (osteomyelitis) etc.

    How GUDCEF XL TABLET Works

    GUDCEF XL TABLET contains Cefpodoxime, Cloxacillin and Lactobacillus. Cefpodoxime and cloxacillin are antibiotics that kill bacteria by not allowing them to produce their cell wall. Lactobacillus helps in the management of infection in the gut and urogenital tract by enriching them with good bacteria. As a result, GUDCEF XL TABLET contributes to the management and control of infection in the body. 

    How to use GUDCEF XL TABLET

    Take GUDCEF XL TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. It is recommended to take GUDCEF XL TABLET with food to improve its absorption in the body. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of GUDCEF XL TABLET

    Common

    • frequent passing of loose stools (diarrhea)
    • feeling sick (nausea)
    • vomiting
    • pain in the area around the stomach (abdomen)
    • formation of gas in the stomach leading to discomfort (flatulence)
    • pain in the head
    • infections over preexisting infections (superinfections) (ex. candidiasis)
    • development of fungal infection in the vagina
    • development of infection in the vulvovaginal area

    Uncommon

    • increase in the level of blood platelets (thrombocytosis)
    • experiencing unreal and unusual ringing noises in the ear (tinnitus)
    • feeling physically weak (asthenia, malaise)
    • feeling tired (fatigued)
    • increase in the levels of a yellow substance called bilirubin in the blood (bilirubinemia)
    • injury to the liver
    • liver disease where the juice of the liver (bile) stops flowing from it (cholestasis)
    • feeling dizzy sensations
    • pain in the head
    • abnormal tingling sensation (paresthesia)
    • increased itch (pruritus)and formation of rash urticaria
    • development of purple patches and spots on the skin (purpura)

    Rare

    • occurrence of other infections over the existing one. (superinfections) (ex. candidiasis)
    • hypersensitivity symptoms such as swelling and rash formation
    • hypersensitivity and painless swelling under the skin on contact with pollen/animal dander (angioneurotic oedema)
    • fatal hypersensitivity reactions like narrowing of bronchi (bronchospasm) and shock.
    • blisters on the skin and mucosal surfaces that peel and form painful raw areas. (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis)
    • increased count of white blood cells in the blood (eosinophilia) and platelets (thrombocytopenia)
    • decreased count of white blood cells in the blood (leukopenia) including a decrease in agranulocytes (agranulocytosis) and neutrophils (neutropenia)
    • decrease in the count of red blood cells (anemia)
    • feeling sudden moving/spinning sensation while moving the head (vertigo)
    • elevated body temperature (fever/pyrexia)
    • superinfection bacterial, superinfection fungal
    • feelings of weakness and general malaise
    • redness of skin (erythema)
    • increased itching (pruritis)
    • inflammation of various parts of the small intestine (enterocolitis, pseudomembranous colitis)
    • sudden inflammation of the pancreas (acute pancreatitis)
    • disorders of the kidney and the liver

    Stop taking GUDCEF XL TABLET and consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following:

    • serious allergic reactions signs such as difficulty in breathing, swelling of tongue and lips
    • severe diarrhoea and vomiting

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Diarrhea:

    Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. To compensate for the loss of water and minerals, consume an oral rehydration solution. Stay hydrated. Consult your doctor if your symptoms get worse or persist.

    Nausea or vomiting:

    Stick to simple meals. Consume small meals regularly. Consume less rich or spicy foods. Stay hydrated. Consult your doctor if your symptoms get worse or persist.

    Headache:

    Take rest and relax. Apply a pain-relieving balm to your forehead, if needed to relieve pain. Consult your doctor if your symptom gets worse or persist.

    Warning & Precautions

    Pregnancy

    GUDCEF XL TABLET is not recommended for use by pregnant women due to a lack of safety data. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Breastfeeding

    GUDCEF XL TABLET is generally not recommended for use by nursing women as it may pass through breast milk to the breastfed baby. Your doctor may advise you to either discontinue breastfeeding your baby during the management or discontinue GUDCEF XL TABLET, based on the risks and benefits of your condition. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or use heavy machinery while taking GUDCEF XL TABLET as it can cause dizziness.

    Kidney

    GUDCEF XL TABLET should be used with caution if you have compromised kidney (renal) function and/or suffering from a decrease in urinary output. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Liver

    GUDCEF XL TABLET should be used with caution if you have any liver disorders. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Allergy

    Do not take GUDCEF XL TABLET if you are allergic to Cefpodoxime and/or cloxacillin and/or Lactobacillus and/or any other constituent of GUDCEF XL TABLET. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Others

    GUDCEF XL TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

    • have galactose intolerance
    • have Lapp lactase deficiency
    • have glucose-galactose malabsorption

    Before taking GUDCEF XL TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

    • had developed an allergic reaction like skin rash and/or swelling of face, throat or lips after taking any antibiotic in the past
    • have/had a gastrointestinal disorder

    Use in Pediatrics:

    GUDCEF XL TABLET is not recommended for use in newborn babies less than 2 months of age. Your doctor will decide the correct frequency, dosage and duration of GUDCEF XL TABLET based on age, body weight and disease condition.

    Use in Geriatrics:

    GUDCEF XL TABLET should be used with caution in the elderly diagnosed with kidney disorders. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug Interactions:

    Before taking GUDCEF XL TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • medicines used to manage gout (Ex. allopurinol, probenecid)
    • medicines used to manage blood clots formation (Ex. warfarin)
    • medicines used to manage acidity (Ex. calcium carbonate, aluminum hydroxide gel)
    • medicines that are toxic to the kidney (Ex. phenytoin, pamidronate)
    • medications to suppress the immune system (immunosuppressant) (Ex. cyclosporine, Infliximab)
    • medications that relieve symptoms of inflammation (corticosteroids) (Ex. prednisolone, hydrocortisone)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally took more of GUDCEF XL TABLET, visit the nearby hospital or consult your doctor immediately. Symptoms of overdosage are mental confusion (encephalopathy) along with diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
