Introduction About GRAMONEG TABLET
GRAMONEG TABLET contains Nalidixic acid which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage urinary tract infections (infection of the kidneys, bladder and urethra. Symptoms include increase in urine frequency, pain while urinating, pain in your side or low back pain).
GRAMONEG TABLET is also used to manage intestinal infections such as shigellosis (a bacterial infection causing diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps).
GRAMONEG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney disease, liver disease, fits, porphyria. GRAMONEG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with personal or family history of QTc prolongation (abnormal heart rhythm), slow heartrate and recent heart attack. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
GRAMONEG TABLET should be used in pregnant women only if it is considered clearly necessary. It is not recommended for use in breast feeding women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
GRAMONEG TABLET is not recommended for use in infants below 3 months of age. It should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

How GRAMONEG TABLET Works
GRAMONEG TABLET is bactericidal that works by managing DNA synthesis leading to death of bacteria. Thus, manages the infection effectively.
How to use GRAMONEG TABLET
Take this medicine as directed by your physician. Swallow the medicine as a whole with a glass of water and do not crush or chew the medicine. It can be taken on an empty stomach one hour before or two hours after meals. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and frequency for you based on your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of GRAMONEG TABLET
Rare
Stop taking GRAMONEG TABLET and contact your physician immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- symptoms of stimulation of brain include tremor, restlessness, light-headedness, confusion and hallucinations
- serious allergic (anaphylactoid) reactions such as urticaria, itching, swelling of face or throat, shortness of breath accompanied by cardiovascular collapse, loss of consciousness, tingling sensation
- symptoms of neuropathy including pain, burning, tingling and/or weakness
- symptoms of pain, inflammation or rupture of a tendon
- phototoxicity (skin irritation)

Pregnancy
GRAMONEG TABLET should be used in pregnant women only if it is considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Breastfeeding
GRAMONEG TABLET is not recommended for breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Driving and Using Machines
GRAMONEG TABLET may cause dizziness or light-headedness. Hence, do not drive or operate machinery while taking this medicine.

Kidney
GRAMONEG TABLET should be used with caution in patients suffering from kidney diseases and may require dose adjustment. It is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Liver
GRAMONEG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Allergy
Do not take GRAMONEG TABLET if you are allergic to Nalidixic acid or any other ingredients of this medicine.

Heart Disease
GRAMONEG TABLET should be used with caution in patients suffering from heart diseases such as personal or family history of QTc prolongation (abnormal heart rhythm), slow heart rate and recent heart attack. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
Others
GRAMONEG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- have convulsions (fits)
- have porphyria (red blood cell disorder)
Before taking GRAMONEG TABLET inform your doctor if you:
- have severe cerebral arteriosclerosis (decreased blood flow to the brain)
- have G6PD deficiency (a genetic disorder affecting red blood cells)
- have hypokalemia (low blood potassium levels)
- are scheduled for lab test
Use in pediatrics:
GRAMONEG TABLET is not recommended for use in infants below 3 months of age as safety and effectiveness have not been established. It should be used with caution in children up to 18 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
Use in geriatrics:
GRAMONEG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking GRAMONEG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- sucralfate (used to manage intestinal ulcers)
- cisapride, aluminium, calcium, magnesium salts (medicines used to manage indigestion and heartburn)
- iron, zinc (vitamin supplements)
- probenecid (used to manage gout)
- chloramphenicol, nitrofurantoin, tetracycline, erythromycin (medicines used to manage bacterial infections)
- melphalan (used to manage multiple myeloma)
- ciclosporin (used to manage rejection of transplant organ)
- oral anticoagulants Ex. warfarin (used to thin the blood)
- theophylline (used to manage asthma)
- caffeine (used to increase alertness)
- quinidine, procainamide, amiodarone, sotalol (medicines used to manage irregular heartbeats)
- antipsychotics (used to manage psychoses) Ex. haloperidol
- tricyclic antidepressants (used to manage depression) Ex. amitriptyline
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally took too much of this medicine, consult your doctor immediately. Symptoms of overdose include toxic psychosis, fits, increased intracranial pressure, metabolic acidosis, vomiting, nausea and weakness.

Q: Can GRAMONEG TABLET be taken with food?
A: Take GRAMONEG TABLET as directed by your physician. It can be taken on an empty stomach one hour before or two hours after meals. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and frequency for you based on your age, body weight and disease condition.
Q: Does GRAMONEG TABLET cause diarrhoea?
A: During management with antibiotics, including GRAMONEG TABLET may cause diarrhoea during or shortly after management. Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own for managing diarrhoea. Contact your doctor if your diarrhoea did not improve.
Q: How long should I take GRAMONEG TABLET?
A: Take GRAMONEG TABLET as advised by your doctor. The usual duration of management is at least 7 to 14 days unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.
Q: What precautions must be taken while using GRAMONEG TABLET?
A: Moderate to severe phototoxicity reactions have been observed in patients who are exposed to direct sunlight while taking GRAMONEG TABLET. Hence, excessive sunlight or artificial ultraviolet light should be avoided. Management should be discontinued if phototoxicity (skin irritation) occurs.
Q: Can I stop using GRAMONEG TABLET when my symptoms are subsided?
A: Although it is common to feel better early in the course of therapy, the medication should be taken exactly as directed. Skipping doses or not completing the full course of therapy may decrease the effectiveness of the immediate management and increase the likelihood that bacteria will develop resistance and will not be manageable by GRAMONEG TABLET or other antibacterial drugs in the future.

A: Yes, GRAMONEG TABLET is effective, if used in the dose and duration advised by your doctor. Do not stop using this medicine, if you see improvement in your condition, Otherwise, your symptoms may return or worse.
