Introduction About GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS

GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS contains levofloxacin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS is used to manage otic/ocular infections (caused by susceptible organisms) which includes otitis externa, acute otitis media (middle ear infection), chronic suppurative otitis media, bacterial conjunctivitis (infection of eye mucous membrane) and corneal ulcer (open sore/inflammation of cornea) in affected individuals.

GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS is not recommended for use in patients allergic to levofloxacin and/or other quinolone antibiotics.

Before using GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS, inform your doctor if you use contact lenses.

GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women only if it is clearly necessary. The medicine is recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged 1 to 18 years) which should be used with caution in elderly patients after consulting the doctor.

The most common side effects after using GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS are burning sensation in eyes, decreased/blurred vision and/or mucus in the eye. Consult and inform your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens.

  • Manage otic/ocular infections (such as otitis externa, acute otitis media, chronic suppurative otitis media, bacterial conjunctivitis, corneal ulcer) in affected individuals

How GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS Works

GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS works by inhibiting DNA gyrase (enzyme responsible for DNA synthesis) in bacteria which results in destruction of bacterial cell structure thus managing the occurrence of otic/ocular infections (caused by susceptible bacteria) in affected individuals.

How to use GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS

Ear Drops:

Use GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS as directed by your doctor. It is for external use only. Wash your hands and tighten the cap of the nozzle which will pierce the tip of the vial. Tilt your head/lie down with the affected ear facing upwards. Gently pull the top of the ear upward and backward and instil the required quantity of drops in the affected ear. Avoid touching the ear with the tip of the dropper. Place your head tilted up for three to five minutes. Replace and tighten the cap after use. Your doctor will decide exact dose and duration according to your disease condition, weight and age.

Eye Drops:

Instil GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS as directed by your doctor. It is for external use only. Wash your hands and open the bottle. Tilt your head backwards and hold the bottle upside down over the eye. Avoid dropper tip touching the eye. Pull your lower eyelid downwards and gently squeeze the bottle to let one drop fall into the space between the lower eye lid and eye. Close your eye and gently press the inner corner of the eye. Wipe off any excess solution from the skin around the eye and replace the cap. Your doctor will decide exact dose and duration according to your disease condition, weight and age.

Side Effects Of GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS

Common

  • burning sensation in eyes
  • decreased/blurred vision, mucus in the eye

Uncommon

  • irritation/stinging sensation in eyes
  • painful eyes
  • dryness/soreness, swelling/redness in eyes
  • sensitivity to light
  • itchy eyes, sticky eyelids, rashes around the eye
  • headache
  • runny/stuffed nose

Rare

  • signs of allergic reactions such as skin rashes

Stop using GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS and inform your doctor immediately in case you experience:

  • signs of severe allergic reactions such as swelling and tightness in the throat, breathing difficulties
  • signs of other allergic reactions such as worsening of redness and itching of the eyes, increased or sudden swelling of eyelids
  • develop tendinitis (pain/swelling of the tendons)

How To Manage Side Effects

Headache:

If GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS causes headache, then take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Headaches should usually go away after the first week of using GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS. If it lasts more than a week or becomes severe then inform your doctor.

Pregnancy

GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS should be used with caution in pregnant women only if it is clearly necessary. Consult and inform your doctor before using the medicine.

Breastfeeding

GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS should be used with caution in breastfeeding women only if it is clearly necessary. Consult and inform your doctor before using the medicine.

Driving and Using Machines

Do not drive or operate machines if you experience blurred vision after using GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS.

Allergy

Do not use GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS if you are allergic to levofloxacin, other quinolones and/or other ingredients of this medicine.

Interactions

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before using GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS, inform your doctor if you are using any other medicines for eyes or any prescription, non-prescription medicines or herbal medicines.

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally instils too much of GLEVO EYE/EAR DROPS or swallows it (accidentally) then consult and inform your doctor or visit the nearby hospital to manage the overdose effects.
