Introduction About GEFEMAX 250MG INJECTION
GEFEMAX 250MG INJECTION is a fixed-dose combination of cefepime and tazobactam which belongs to the group of medicines called antibiotics. It is used to manage several bacterial infections like lower respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia, acute bacterial exacerbation causing breathing difficulties, urinary tract infections, pyelonephritis, skin infections, abdominal and biliary tract infections, vaginal infections, bacteraemia, and bacterial meningitis in infants and children.
GEFEMAX 250MG INJECTION is also used along with other antibacterial agents in the management of neutropenia caused by bacterial infection. Pneumonia is an infection that causes inflammation in the air sac, producing a cough with phlegm and shortness of breath. Pyelonephritis is a urinary tract infection affecting the urinary bladder that later spreads to the kidneys.
Bacteremia is an infectious condition indicating the presence of bacteria in the bloodstream. Bacterial meningitis is an infection caused by bacteria in the region surrounding the brain. Neutropenic means low levels of neutrophils (a type of white blood cell) in our body.
GEFEMAX 250MG INJECTION should not be used in patients allergic to penicillin antibiotics, cefepime, tazobactam and other beta-lactam antibiotics. GEFEMAX 250MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney and liver diseases. Avoid using other aminoglycoside antibiotics and diuretics, and GEFEMAX 250MG INJECTION.
There is no proper information regarding the use of GEFEMAX 250MG INJECTION in pregnant women and so it should be used with caution in pregnant women. GEFEMAX 250MG INJECTION should be used with caution in breastfeeding women. GEFEMAX 250MG INJECTION should be used with caution in children above 2 months and elderly people. The common side effect of GEFEMAX 250MG INJECTION is injection site reactions such as pain and inflammation. Consult your doctor if any of your symptoms get worse or persist.
Uses Of GEFEMAX 250MG INJECTION
It is used to manage:
- lower respiratory tract infections, such as pneumonia, and acute bacterial exacerbation causing breathing difficulties
- uncomplicated and complicated urinary tract infections and pyelonephritis
- skin and subcutaneous infections
- intra-abdominal infections, including peritonitis and biliary tract infections
- gynaecological infections
- bacteraemia associated with other infections
- bacterial meningitis in infants and children
How GEFEMAX 250MG INJECTION Works
GEFEMAX 250MG INJECTION works by destroying the bacterial growth responsible for causing infections. GEFEMAX 250MG INJECTION has two antibiotics cefepime a cephalosporin antibiotic and tazobactam a beta-lactam antibiotic. Cefepime works by interrupting wall formation by binding with the enzymes responsible for cell wall synthesis. This binding causes defects in the cell wall leading to cell death and causing the death of the organism. Tazobactam present in GEFEMAX 250MG INJECTION is responsible for the irreversible termination of enzymbeta-lactamasesases) that protect the organism from antibiotics. Tazobactam produces fewer anti-bacterial actions when given alone so it’s always used in combination with other antibiotics. Thus, both substances work by managing cell growth and function inhibit biting bacterial growth.
How to use GEFEMAX 250MG INJECTION
GEFEMAX 250MG INJECTION must be given by a doctor or nurse into the vein (intravenously)or the muscle (intramuscularly). Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition. If you have any doubts regarding the doses, consult your doctor.

How To Manage Side Effects
Injection Site Reactions
Try using a warm water compress to reduce swelling. keeping the affected area elevated can help reduce the swelling. Not applying pressure to the affected area will help reduce pain and manage further damage. Add food substances like garlic, onion, ginger, and pineapple as they help in reducing inflammations. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse or persist.
