    Introduction About GATILOX 200MG TABLET

    GATILOX 200MG TABLET contains Gatifloxacin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage bacterial infections of the lungs, sinuses, skin and urinary tract caused by strains of aerobic gram-positive bacteria (Ex. Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus mitis group, Streptococcus oralis) and aerobic gram-negative bacteria (Ex. Haemophilus influenzae).

    GATILOX 200MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women as insufficient data is available on this. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

    GATILOX 200MG TABLET is not recommended for children and adolescents below 18 years of age. Therefore, contact your doctor before taking.

    Try to avoid exposure to sunlight or artificial UV rays (sunlamps or tanning beds). GATILOX 200MG TABLET can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight and sunburn.

    Use a sunscreen (minimum SPF 15) and wear protective clothing if you have to go out in the sun. Inform your doctor if you have severe sunburn, redness, itching, rash or swelling after exposure to the sun.

    This medicine may cause some side minor effects, if you experience any unusual reactions for a long time, consult your doctor for advice.

    How GATILOX 200MG TABLET Works

    GATILOX 200MG TABLET works by inhibiting DNA gyrase (an enzyme that helps in replication, transcription and repair of bacterial DNA) and topoisomerase IV (an enzyme that helps in portioning of chromosomal DNA during bacterial cell division).

    How to use GATILOX 200MG TABLET

    Always take GATILOX 200MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. The dose and duration of taking the medicine will be decided by your doctor depending on your age, body weight and disease severity.

    Side Effects Of GATILOX 200MG TABLET

    Uncommon

    • nausea, vomiting
    • headache
    • stomach pain, diarrhoea
    • feeling dizzy, restless or confused
    • vaginal discharge or itching (in women)
    • sleep problems (insomnia or nightmares)

    Rare

    Stop taking GATILOX 200MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat
    • fast, pounding or uneven heartbeats
    • feeling light-headed, fainting
    • seizure
    • numbness, tingly feeling, burning pain
    • skin rash that is red and blisters or peels
    • diarrhoea (watery or bloody)
    • nausea, stomach pain, low fever, lost appetite, dark urine, clay-coloured stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
    • sudden pain or swelling near your joints (especially in your arm or ankle)

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Nausea or Vomiting:

    Take this medicine with or just after meals with plenty of water. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods.

    Diarrhea:

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor.

    Headache:

    Try to rest and relax. Apply a pain relieving balm on your head. If the headache does not improve, contact your doctor.

    Pregnancy

    Breastfeeding

    Allergy

    Do not take GATILOX 200MG TABLET if you are allergic to Gatifloxacin or any other components of this medicine.

    Heart Disease

    Use of GATILOX 200MG TABLET is not recommended in patients with personal or family history of long QT syndrome or other heart rhythm disorder. Contact your doctor before taking.

    Others

    GATILOX 200MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:

    • diabetes

    Before taking GATILOX 200MG TABLET tell your doctor if you have:

    • low level of potassium in your blood
    • epilepsy or another seizure disorder

    Use in pediatrics:

    Use of GATILOX 200MG TABLET is not recommended in children and below 18 years of age as the safety and effectiveness in this age group has not been established. Contact your doctor before taking the medicine.

    Use in geriatrics:

    GATILOX 200MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients above 65 years of age. Contact your doctor before taking the medicine.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug Interactions:

    Tell your doctor, before taking GATILOX 200MG TABLET if you are taking,

    • theophylline (manages breathing condition)
    • other quinolones medicines
    • warfarin (manages blood clot)

    Overdosage:

    If you accidentally take extra dose of GATILOX 200MG TABLET, consult your doctor for advice. Symptoms of overdose include decreased activity, slowed breathing, vomiting, tremors or seizure (convulsions).
