    Introduction About GALEGA GV 2 TABLET

    GALEGA GV 2 TABLET is a combination of Glimepiride and Voglibose which belongs to a group of medicines called Antidiabetic agents. It is indicated as an adjunct to proper dietary management and exercise to lower the blood glucose in patients with type 2 diabetes whose hyperglycemia cannot be controlled by diet and exercise alone. This medicine can also be used in combination with metformin and insulin.

    Glimepiride lowers blood sugar by causing the pancreas to produce more insulin and helps the body to use insulin efficiently. Voglibose inhibits the enzyme hydrolase (α-glucosidase) that catalyzes decomposition of disaccharides into monosaccharides in the intestine, thereby delaying the digestion and absorption of carbohydrate, resulting in improvement of postprandial hyperglycemia. Along management with GALEGA GV 2 TABLET follow regular exercise and diet plan as advised by the doctor to achieve better results.

    GALEGA GV 2 TABLET is not recommended if you have type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic coma, severe infection, before and after surgery, serious trauma, gastrointestinal obstruction and severe liver or kidney disease. This medicine is not recommended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is not suitable for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

    Alcohol intake may increase or decrease the blood sugar lowering action of GALEGA GV 2 TABLET. Do not drive or operate any machines if you experience signs of hypoglycemia levels. The most common side effects of taking GALEGA GV 2 TABLET are diarrhea, loose stools, abdominal pain, constipation, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, intestinal obstruction, rash and pruritus. Contact your doctor if any of the above side effects worsen or persists for a longer duration.

    How GALEGA GV 2 TABLET Works

    GALEGA GV 2 TABLET is a combination of Glimepiride and Voglibose helps to lower blood glucose levels. Glimepiride works by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas in order to lower the blood glucose. Voglibose inhibits the enzyme hydrolase (α-glucosidase) that catalyzes decomposition of disaccharides into monosaccharides in the intestine, thereby delaying the digestion and absorption of carbohydrate, resulting in improvement of postprandial hyperglycemia.

    How to use GALEGA GV 2 TABLET

    Take GALEGA GV 2 TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow GALEGA GV 2 TABLET with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop taking GALEGA GV 2 TABLET without informing your doctor.  

    Side Effects Of GALEGA GV 2 TABLET

    Common

    • diarrhea
    • loose stools
    • abdominal pain
    • constipation
    • anorexia
    • nausea, vomiting
    • heartburn
    • intestinal obstruction
    • rash and pruritus

    Stop taking GALEGA GV 2 TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • allergic reactions (including inflammation of blood vessels, often with skin rash) which may develop into serious reactions with difficulty in breathing, fall in blood pressure and sometimes progressing to shock
    • abnormal liver function including yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice), problems with the bile flow(cholestasis), inflammation of the liver (hepatitis) or liver failure
    • allergy (hypersensitivity) of the skin such as itching, rash, hives and increased sensitivity to sun
    • severe hypoglycaemia

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Diarrhea

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated. Avoid taking any medicine on your own for diarrhea. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Nausea And Vomiting

    Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily, fried, and spicy foods. Do not perform any strenuous activities immediately after eating. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Stomach Pain

    Rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and frequent meals. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Pregnancy

    Contraindicated

    GALEGA GV 2 TABLET is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor before taking GALEGA GV 2 TABLET if you are planning to become pregnant.

    Breastfeeding

    Contraindicated

    GALEGA GV 2 TABLET should not be taken during breastfeeding as it may pass through breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking GALEGA GV 2 TABLET for advice.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or handle any machines if you experience signs of hypoglycemia.

    Liver

    GALEGA GV 2 TABLET is not recommended if you have severe liver disease and it should be used with caution in patients with acute liver diseases. Consult your doctor before taking GALEGA GV 2 TABLET.

    Allergy

    Contraindicated

    Do not take GALEGA GV 2 TABLET if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Glimepiride or Voglibose or any other ingredients of this medicine.

    Use In Pediatrics

    Contraindicated

    GALEGA GV 2 TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (under 18 years of age). Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

    Use In Geriatrics

    Use with Caution

    GALEGA GV 2 TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients where they generally have a physiological hypofunction, it is desirable to initiate therapy with lower dosage. Moreover, this medicine should be carefully administered under close observation, throughout the course of the disease, with careful attention to the blood sugar level and the onset of gastrointestinal symptoms.

    Others

    GALEGA GV 2 TABLET is not recommended for use, if you have:

    • type 1 diabetes mellitus
    • diabetic ketoacidosis
    • diabetic coma
    • severe infection, before and after surgery, serious trauma

    Before taking GALEGA GV 2 TABLET inform your doctor if you have:

    • a history of laparotomy or ileus
    • chronic intestinal disease accompanied by disturbance in digestion and absorption
    • aggravating symptoms due to increased generation of intestinal gas (e.g., Roemheld syndrome, severe hernia, stenosis, and ulcer of the large intestine)

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before taking GALEGA GV 2 TABLET inform to your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines:

    • Other medicines used for diabetes mellitus (such as insulin or metformin)
    • medicines used for pain and inflammation (phenylbutazone, azopropazone, oxyphenbutazone, aspirin-like medicines)
    • medicines used to manage urinary infections (sulfonamides)
    • medicines used for bacterial and fungal infections (tetracyclines, chloramphenicol, fluconazole, miconazole, quinolones, clarithromycin)
    • medicines used to inhibit blood clotting (warfarin)
    • medicines supporting muscle build up (anabolics)
    • medicines used for depression (fluoxetine, MAO inhibitors)
    • medicines lowering high cholesterol level (fibrates)
    • medicines lowering high blood pressure (ACE inhibitors)
    • medicines called anti-arrhythmic agents used to control abnormal heartbeat (disopyramide)
    • medicines used for gout (allopurinol, probenecid, sulfinpyrazone)
    • medicines used to reduce weight (fenfluramine)
    • medicines used for nasal allergies such as hay fever (tritoqualine)
    • medicines containing female sex hormones (oestrogens, progestogens)
    • medicines used to manage high blood pressure called thiazide diuretics (water tablets)
    • medicines used to stimulate the thyroid gland (such as levothyroxine)
    • medicines used to manage allergies and inflammation (glucocorticoids)
    • medicines to manage mental disorders (chlorpromazine and other phenothiazine derivatives)
    • medicines to manage high cholesterol level (nicotinic acid)
    • medicines to manage constipation (laxatives)
    • medicines to manage fits (phenytoin)
    • medicines used for nervousness and sleep problems (barbiturates)
    • medicines used to manage increased pressure in the eye (azetazolamide)
    • medicines to manage infections, tuberculosis  
    • medicines to manage severe low blood sugar levels (glucagon)
    • medicines used for stomach ulcers

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else take too much of GALEGA GV 2 TABLET, contact your doctor immediately or go to a nearest hospital straight away. Overdosage symptoms of GALEGA GV 2 TABLET includes hypoglycemia, abdominal discomfort and diarrhea.
