    Introduction About FOLSAFE D CAPSULE

    FOLSAFE D CAPSULE is a combination of Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA), L Methylfolate, Methylcobalamin, and Pyridoxal 5 Phosphate which belongs to the group of medicines called Omega 3 Fatty Acids, and Vitamins, respectively. It is used to manage spontaneous miscarriage, recurrent abortion, intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), pre-eclampsia (potentially dangerous pregnancy complication), placental abruption (complete/partial separation of placenta), and pre-term labour in pregnant women.

    FOLSAFE D CAPSULE is not recommended for use in patients allergic to L Methylfolate, Methylcobalamin, Pyridoxal 5 Phosphate, and/or any other ingredients of this medicine. Before taking FOLSAFE D CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you have vitamin B12 deficiency, kidney diseases (such as renal failure), and/or liver diseases (such as hepatic impairment).

    FOLSAFE D CAPSULE should be used with caution during pregnancy and in breastfeeding women. It is also advised to be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) and in elderly patients (aged above 70 years) after consulting your doctor.

    The most common side effects of taking FOLSAFE D CAPSULE are fever, itching, rash, tingling/numbness sensation in joint, shortness of breath, and/or rapid weight gain. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens.

    • It is used to manage spontaneous miscarriage, recurrent abortion, intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), pre-eclampsia, placental abruption, and pre-term labour in pregnant women

    How FOLSAFE D CAPSULE Works

    FOLSAFE D CAPSULE helps to manage spontaneous miscarriage, recurrent abortion, intrauterine growth restriction, and pre-term labour, where docosahexaenoic acid works by optimizing brain and retinal maturation in the developing foetus and manages preterm birth during pregnancy, methylcarbylamine works by managing cardiac diseases and aids in maintaining proper size of the baby (during pregnancy) by lowering homocysteine (an amino acid which on excess production leads to cardiovascular disease), Pyridoxal 5 Phosphate works by managing cardio-vascular malformations in the developing baby, and L Methylfolate works by aiding in the growth of the baby by acting as a co-factor in the inactivation of bone damaging amino acids thus managing the occurrence of intrauterine growth restriction during pregnancy.

    How to use FOLSAFE D CAPSULE

    Take FOLSAFE D CAPSULE as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with the glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of FOLSAFE D CAPSULE

    Common

    • fever
    • itching
    • rash
    • tingling/numbness sensation in joint
    • shortness of breath
    • rapid weight gain
    • signs of polycythaemia (increased number of red blood cells in body) such as headache, blurred vision, tiredness
    • signs of hypokalaemia (low potassium level in blood) such as constipation, heart palpitations, extreme tiredness

    Uncommon

    • indigestion
    • diarrhoea
    • nausea
    • belching
    • unpleasant taste

    Rare

    Stop taking FOLSAFE D CAPSULE and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:   

    • increased risks of bleeding

    Skin rash Or Itching

    Avoid itching harshly or scratching the site of itching. Keep moisturising the itchy skin regularly. Use gentle creams, lotions, or gels that soothe, and cool the skin. Avoid using soaps on the itchy skin. Wear the loose clothing.

    FOLSAFE D CAPSULE is not recommended for use if you are allergic to L Methylfolate, Methylcobalamin, Pyridoxal 5 Phosphate, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

    Before taking FOLSAFE D CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you:

    • have vitamin B12 deficiency

    A. Drug-Drug Interactions

    Before taking FOLSAFE D CAPSULE, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • anticonvulsants (medicines used to manage convulsions) Ex. carbamazepine, fosphenytoin, phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone, valproic acid, valproate, lamotrigine, diavalproex sodium, topiramate, gabapentin, pregabalin, levetiracetam, tiagabine, zonisamide
    • medicines used to manage parasitic infections (Ex. pyrimethamine)
    • levodopa (medicine used to manage brain disorders)
    • antibiotics (medicines used to manage bacterial infections) Ex. penicillin, amoxycillin, trimethoprim
    • cholestyramine, colchicines, colestipol (medicines used to lower blood cholesterol levels)
    • metformin (medicine used to control blood sugar levels)
    • para-aminosalicylic acid (medicine used to manage tuberculosis)
    • potassium chloride (medicine used to manage low potassium levels)
    • nitrous oxide (medicine used for general anaesthesia, procedural sedation)
    • methotrexate (medicine used to manage cancer)
    • sulfasalazine (medicine used to manage inflammation)
    • methylprednisone (medicine used to manage pain and swelling)
    • NSAIDs (medicines used to manage pain, inflammation, and fever) Ex. ibuprofen
    • pancreatic enzymes (medicines used to manage malabsorption syndrome due pancreatic problems) Ex. pancrelipase, pancratin
    • triamterene (medicine used to manage high blood pressure)
