    Introduction About FLUCOLD AF DROPS

    FLUCOLD AF DROPS is a combination of Phenylephrine and Chlorpheniramine which belongs to the group of medicines called Nasal decongestants and Antihistamines respectively. It is used to relieve nasal and sinus congestion, allergic symptoms of the nose or throat due to upper respiratory tract allergies, sinus pain and headache.

    Also, it is used adjunctly with antibacterials to manage sinusitis (inflammation of the tissue lining the sinuses), tonsillitis (inflammation of the tonsils) and otitis media (middle ear infection).

    Before giving FLUCOLD AF DROPS to your child, inform child’s doctor if your child has kidney, liver or heart problems, diabetes, fits or severely raised blood pressure.

    FLUCOLD AF DROPS is not recommended for use in pregnant or breast-feeding women and elderly patients as it is used only in children.

    The most common side effects of FLUCOLD AF DROPS are nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, dizziness and tiredness. Consult your child’s doctor if any of the side effects worsen.

    How FLUCOLD AF DROPS Works

    FLUCOLD AF DROPS relieves cold symptoms where phenylephrine decreases nasal congestion by acting on α1-adrenergic receptors in the small vessels of the nasal mucosa to produce constriction, resulting in decreased swelling and increased drainage of the sinus cavities and chlorpheniramine binds to the histamine H1 receptor and blocks its action, resulting in temporary relief of the negative symptoms (runny nose, sneezing, watery and itchy eyes) brought on by histamine.

    How to use FLUCOLD AF DROPS

    Give FLUCOLD AF DROPS to your child as advised by the physician. Shake well before use. Use a measuring cup to properly measure the dose. Your child’s doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of FLUCOLD AF DROPS for your child depending upon child’s age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of FLUCOLD AF DROPS

    Common

    • drowsiness and sedation
    • disturbance in concentrating, un-coordination, dizziness, headache
    • blurred vision
    • nausea or vomiting
    • dry mouth
    • tiredness

    Rare

    • increased heart rate, palpitation
    • fear, anxiety, restlessness
    • tremor, weakness
    • painful urination
    • insomnia
    • hallucinations, convulsions 

    Stop giving FLUCOLD AF DROPS to your child and contact doctor immediately if your child experiences any of the following side effects:

    • develop rash, hives, itching, red or swollen or blistered or peeling skin; wheezing, tightness in the chest or throat, trouble breathing, swallowing or talking, unusual hoarseness or swelling of the mouth, face lips, tongue or throat

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Dry Mouth

    Tell your child to sip water regularly and other sugar free liquids. Tell your child not to use mouthwashes that contain alcohol because they can make your mouth dry, use mouthwash that is used only for dry mouth. Limit your caffeine intake. Consult child’s doctor if the symptom does not improve.

    Headache

    Apply hot or cold-water bag on your child’s head. Advise your child to take rest in a quiet room. Massage child’s scalp or head with mild pressure for relieving effect. Consult child’s doctor if the symptom does not improve.

    Nausea And Vomiting

    Follow simple meal plan for your child while administering FLUCOLD AF DROPS. Avoid giving foods that are oily, fried or spicy foods. Do not let your child to lie down or sleep immediately after eating. Consult child’s doctor if the symptom does not improve.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not let your child ride bicycles or drive other vehicles or operate any tools if your child experiences dizziness, drowsiness and sedation after taking FLUCOLD AF DROPS.

    Alcohol

    Kidney

    Liver

    Allergy

    Heart Disease

    FLUCOLD AF DROPS is not recommended for use in children with severely high blood pressure. FLUCOLD AF DROPS should be used with caution in patients with any other cardiovascular problems. Consult your child’s doctor for advice before administration of FLUCOLD AF DROPS to your child.

    Others

    FLUCOLD AF DROPS is not recommended for use if your child:

    • has phaeochromocytoma (rare tumours that start in the inner part of the adrenal gland)
    • peripheral or mesenteric vascular thrombosis (blood clots usually in legs or major veins (one or more) that drain blood from the intestine

    Before giving FLUCOLD AF DROPS to your child, inform your physician if your child:

    • has diabetes
    • has overactive thyroid
    • has closed angle glaucoma
    • has history of fits

    Use in Pediatrics:

    FLUCOLD AF DROPS should be used with caution in children from 1 month to 12 years of age. Consult your child’s doctor for advice before administration of FLUCOLD AF DROPS.

    Use in Geriatrics:

    FLUCOLD AF DROPS is not recommended for use in elderly patients as it is used only in children. Consult your doctor for advice.

    Interactions

    A. Drug - Drug interactions:

    Before giving FLUCOLD AF DROPS to your child, inform to child’s doctor if your child is taking or receiving any of the following medicines:

    • medicines used to manage depression (Ex. selegiline, phenelzine, amitriptyline)
    • ephedrine (used to manage low blood pressure)
    • phenytoin (used to manage epilepsy)
    • digoxin (used to manage irregular heartbeat)
    • medicines used to manage anxiety and induce sleep (Ex. alprazolam, chlordiazepoxide, clonazepam)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of FLUCOLD AF DROPS, contact your doctor immediately or visit a nearby hospital. Overdosage symptoms of FLUCOLD AF DROPS includes extreme sleepiness, confusion, weakness, ringing in the ears, blurred vision, large pupils, dry mouth, flushing, fever, shaking, insomnia, hallucinations and possibly seizures.
