    Introduction About FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET

    FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET is a combination of Fenofibrate, and Metformin, which belongs to a group of medicines called Antidiabetic agents. FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults along with diet and exercise.

    Your doctor might want to test your blood or urine to check if FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET is working properly and also if your kidneys, muscles, and liver are working properly.

    FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney problems, liver problems, acute heart failure who have recently had a heart attack, have severe problems with their circulation (such as shock), or have breathing difficulties, severe gall bladder problems, or pancreatitis. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

    FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET is not recommended for use by pregnant women or breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children or adolescents (aged below 18 years) as safety and efficacy have not been established. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

    The most common side effects of taking FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, flatulence, loss of appetite, and change in taste. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects worsen.

    How FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET Works

    FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET helps to control the blood sugar level. Fenofibrate works by lowering the levels of bad cholesterol (triglycerides) in the blood, increasing the amount of good cholesterol (HDL) in the blood, and reducing the risk of heart disease. Metformin works by decreasing glucose production in the liver and the amount of glucose absorbed by the stomach and intestine. It also helps to restore the body’s response to insulin.

    How to use FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET

    Always take FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET with food or as directed by your physician. Swallow the medicine as a whole, and do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you, depending on your age and health condition. Do not stop taking FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET without informing your doctor.

    Side Effects Of FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET

    Common

    • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, flatulence, and loss of appetite
    • change in taste

    Uncommon

    • headache
    • gallstones
    • reduced sex drive
    • rash, itching, or red patches on the skin

    Rare

    • hair loss
    • increased sensitivity of your skin to sunlight, sun lamps, and sunbeds

    Stop taking FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • signs of an allergic reaction can include rashes, hives, itching, and swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, which may cause difficulty in breathing
    • signs of muscle inflammation or breakdown include cramps or painful, tender, or weak muscles, which can cause kidney damage or even death
    • stomach pain due to inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis)
    • signs of a blood clot in the lung (pulmonary embolism) causing chest pain and feeling breathless
    • signs of a blood clot in the leg (deep vein thrombosis) include pain, redness, or swelling in your leg
    • signs of an inflamed liver (hepatitis), such as yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes (jaundice), or an increase in liver enzymes
    • symptoms of lactic acidosis such as vomiting, abdominal pain, muscle cramps, feeling unwell with severe tiredness, difficulty breathing, reduced body temperature, and heartbeat

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Bloating

    Eat smaller and more frequent meals. Eat and drink slowly, and exercise regularly. If the flatulence does not improve, contact your doctor.

    Diarrhea

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices, to keep yourself hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own to manage diarrhea. Contact your doctor if your diarrhea does not improve.

    Headache

    Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids, such as water or ORS (Oral Rehydrating Solution), and apply a pain-relieving balm to the head if necessary. Contact your doctor if your headache does not improve.

    Loss Of Appetite

    Eat when you are hungry. Eat smaller meals more often than usual. Snack only when you're hungry. Eat a nutritious snack that is rich in calories and protein, such as dried fruit and nuts.

    Nausea And Vomiting

    Take FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET, with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. Contact your doctor if your nausea and vomiting do not improve.

    Skin rash Or Itching

    Avoid hot baths because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing while going outside. Use unscented moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the affected area. Contact your doctor if your rashes worsen.

    Stomach Pain

    Try to have smaller meals but take them frequently. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. Do not self-manage and contact your doctor if the stomach pain does not improve.

    Contraindicated

    FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET is not recommended for use by pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Breastfeeding

    Contraindicated

    FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET is not recommended for use by breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed your baby.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Use with Caution

    Do not drive or operate any heavy tools or machines if you have symptoms of low blood sugar, such as weakness, dizziness, increased sweating, a fast heartbeat, vision disorders, or difficulty in concentration after taking FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET.

    Alcohol

    Consult your doctor

    Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET, as it may increase the risk of muscle problems and lactic acidosis.

    Kidney

    Contraindicated

    FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Liver

    Contraindicated

    FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with liver problems. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Allergy

    Contraindicated

    Do not take FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET if you are allergic to fenofibrate, metformin, or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.

    Heart Disease

    Contraindicated

    FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with acute heart failure who have recently had a heart attack, have severe problems with their circulation (such as shock), or have breathing difficulties. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

    Use In Pediatrics

    Contraindicated

    FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children or adolescents (aged below 18 years) as safety and efficacy have not been established. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

    Use In Geriatrics

    Use with Caution

    FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years). Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

    Others

    FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

    • have had an allergic reaction or skin damage from sunlight or UV light after taking other medicines
    • have severe gall bladder problems
    • have pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
    • have lactic acidosis (the buildup of lactic acid in the body)
    • have diabetic ketoacidosis (a diabetic complication causing stomach pain, fast and deep breathing, sleepiness, or your breath developing an unusual fruity smell)
    • are in a diabetic coma
    • have dehydration due to long-lasting diarrhea or vomiting
    • have a severe infection affecting the lungs or kidneys
    • are planned for major surgery
    • are scheduled for lab testing

    Before taking FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

    • have an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism)
    • have uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus
    • have problems with certain proteins in your blood
    • or your family has had muscle problems
    • have ever had muscle problems during management with statins or fibrates (such as fenofibrate, bezafibrate, or gemfibrozil)
    • have intolerance to lactose or other sugars
    • are on prolonged fasting

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before taking FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

    • other medicines used to lower cholesterol levels in the blood (such as simvastatin, atorvastatin, pravastatin, rosuvastatin or fluvastatin, bezafibrate, or gemfibrozil)
    • anti-coagulants Ex. warfarin (a medicine used to manage blood clotting)
    • other medicines to manage diabetes (such as rosiglitazone or pioglitazone)
    • ciclosporin (used to suppress your immune system)
    • medicines used to manage high blood pressure and heart conditions Ex. chlorothiazide, verapamil, ranolazine, enalapril, losartan, and olmesartan)
    • beta-2 agonists such as salbutamol or terbutaline (used to manage asthma)
    • corticosteroids (used to manage inflammatory conditions) Ex. dexamethasone
    • rifampicin (a medicine used in the management of tuberculosis)
    • cimetidine (a medicine used to manage stomach ulcers)
    • dolutegravir (a medicine used to manage viral infections)
    • trimethoprim (used to manage bacterial infections)
    • vandetanib, crizotinib, and olaparib (used to manage cancer)
    • isavuconazole (used to manage fungal infections)
    • medicines used to manage pain and inflammation (NSAIDs and COX-2-inhibitors, such as ibuprofen, ketoprofen, and celecoxib)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally took more FIBMET 80/500MG TABLET, you may experience lactic acidosis, and symptoms include vomiting, abdominal pain, muscle cramps, a general feeling of not being well with severe tiredness, and difficulty breathing. Further symptoms include a reduced body temperature and heartbeat.
