Introduction About FENT 50MCG INJECTION
FENT 50MCG INJECTION contains Fentanyl which belongs to the group of medicine called Opioid Analgesics. It is used in the management of severe pain. It provides pain relief during and after short surgical procedures.
During major surgical procedures, it is commonly used prior to and along with certain anesthetics (Ex. halothane, sevoflurane) and neuroleptic medicines to induce and maintain anesthesia (loss of sensation) and/or pain relief. It is frequently used to supplement anaesthetics which permits the use of anaesthetic at low doses.
Before receiving FENT 50MCG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have asthma or any other breathing problems, muscle weakness, thyroid deficiency, severe undiagnosed headaches, alcoholism or a previous history of drug abuse as a precaution.
If you are currently taking or recently took any sleeping pills or medicines used for depression, make sure to inform your doctor before FENT 50MCG INJECTION is given to you.
The most common side effects of receiving FENT 50MCG INJECTION are pain and swelling at the site of injection, nausea, vomiting, muscle stiffness, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, low blood pressure, blurred vision, low pulse, wheezing or breathing difficulties. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect worsens.

How FENT 50MCG INJECTION Works
FENT 50MCG INJECTION is a pain-relieving medication. It works by blocking the transmission of pain signals between the affected sites and the brain which helps in reducing pain sensation.
How to use FENT 50MCG INJECTION
FENT 50MCG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into the vein (intravenously). Your doctor will decide the correct dose for you depending upon your age, body weight and health condition.
Side Effects Of FENT 50MCG INJECTION
Common
- muscle stiffness
- nausea or vomiting
- agitation, jerky or uncoordinated movements
- dizziness, drowsiness
- blurred vision, blind spots or haloes around lights
- slow or irregular heartbeat
- very low or high blood pressure
- pain at the injected site
- choking, caused by cramping of the throat muscles
- wheezing or difficulty in breathing
- skin rash and redness
- confusion
Uncommon
- a feeling of extreme happiness (euphoria)
- headache
- swelling and clotting along the injected vein
- changes in blood pressure
- fast breathing than usual
- hiccups
- decrease in body temperature or chills
- breathing complications
Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects after receiving FENT 50MCG INJECTION:
- severe allergic reaction (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, eyes, lips, tongue, throat, raised lumps on the skin, fever and collapse)
How To Manage Side Effects

Constipation
Eat plenty of fiber rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals. Drink plenty of fluids. Exercise more regularly. Consult your doctor if this side effect bothers you.

Dizziness Or Drowsiness
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.

Headache
Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your headache. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.

Injection Site Reactions
Place an ice pack on the injected site. Do not move the affected area frequently. If the symptom worsens, consult your doctor.

Nausea And Vomiting
Stick to simple meals and avoid oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if nausea worsens.
Warning & Precautions

Pregnancy
RiskyInform your doctor before FENT 50MCG INJECTION is given to you, if you are pregnant, or think you may be pregnant. FENT 50MCG INJECTION should not be given during childbirth as it may affect the baby’s breathing.

Breastfeeding
ContraindicatedFENT 50MCG INJECTION may pass through breast milk. Therefore, it is not recommended to breastfeed the infant for at least 24 hours after receiving this medicine.

Driving and Using Machines
Use with CautionFENT 50MCG INJECTION may cause dizziness and sleepiness. Therefore, do not drive or operate any heavy tools or machines until the effects of this medicine wears off completely.

Alcohol
Consult your doctorAvoid consumption of alcohol before receiving FENT 50MCG INJECTION.

Kidney
Use with CautionFENT 50MCG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Therefore, inform your doctor before receiving it.

Liver
Use with CautionFENT 50MCG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Therefore, inform your doctor before receiving it.

Allergy
ContraindicatedInform your doctor before receiving FENT 50MCG INJECTION if you are allergic to Fentanyl or to any other opioid analgesic medications.

Lungs
Consult your doctorFENT 50MCG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with asthma, shallow breathing or other breathing difficulties. It should be used with caution in patients with other lung diseases. Therefore, inform your doctor before receiving it.

Use In Pediatrics
Use with CautionFENT 50MCG INJECTION should be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Proper dose adjustments and careful monitoring are required in such patients.

Use In Geriatrics
Use with CautionFENT 50MCG INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it. Proper dose adjustments and careful monitoring are required in such patients.
Others
FENT 50MCG INJECTION is not recommended for use if you:
- are currently taking or recently took any medicines used to manage depression
Before receiving FENT 50MCG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you:
- have an under active thyroid gland
- suffer from myasthenia gravis (muscle disorder causing severe muscle pain or tenderness)
- have a previous history of drug abuse
- are currently undergoing management with opioid drugs
- suffer from alcoholism
- suffer from severe undiagnosed headaches
- have recently had a head injury
- have low blood volume
- have pain in right upper side of your stomach (bile duct)
- are weak due to recent illness
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before receiving FENT 50MCG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- medicines used to reduce anxiety and to induce sleep (such as clonazepam, lorazepam, nitrazepam, midazolam, alprazolam)
- medicines used to manage depression (such as phenelzine, moclobemide, citalopram, duloxetine, escitalopram, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine, sertraline, venlafaxine)
- medicines used to manage psychiatric conditions (such as chlorpromazine, prochlorperazine)
- antihistamines (medicines used to manage allergic conditions) such as cetirizine, levocetirizine
- other pain killers (such as pethidine, morphine)
- general anaesthetic (used to cause loss of consciousness) such as etomidate
- medicines used to manage or manage HIV infection (such as ritonavir, indinavir and saquinavir)
- droperidol (a drug used to manage anxiety and sickness)
- muscle relaxants (used for relaxing muscles prior to surgeries) such as suxamethonium
- medicines used to manage fungal infections (such as fluconazole or voriconazole)
Overdosage:
FENT 50MCG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, contact your doctor immediately if you experience breathing difficulties, dizziness or symptoms of low blood pressure or muscle stiffness.
