    Introduction About ETOVEL 100 INJECTION

    ETOVEL 100 INJECTION contains Etoposide which belongs to the group of medicines called Anticancer agents. It is used to manage various types of cancer such as lung cancer, blood cancer, lymph cancer, ovarian cancer and testicular cancer.     

    ETOVEL 100 INJECTION should be used under careful medical supervision. During management with ETOVEL 100 INJECTION, your doctor will periodically monitor your heart, liver, kidney functions as a precaution.

    Before receiving ETOVEL 100 INJECTION, inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have any serious infections, low albumin levels in blood or recently received any vaccine or radiotherapy or chemotherapy as a precaution.

    Do not receive ETOVEL 100 INJECTION without consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Both men and women undergoing therapy with this medicine, must use a suitable contraceptive to stop pregnancy during and until 6 months after stopping the therapy.

    The most common side effects of receiving ETOVEL 100 INJECTION are blood disorders, loss of appetite, constipation, pigmentation on the skin, temporary hair loss, weakness, tiredness and sore lips, mouth or throat ulcers. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects worsen.

    Uses Of ETOVEL 100 INJECTION

    It is used to manage various types of cancer such as:

    • Small cell lung cancer
    • Blood cancer (Ex. acute myeloid leukaemia)
    • Lymph cancer (Ex. Hodgkin’s lymphoma, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma)
    • Ovarian cancer
    • Testicular cancer

    How ETOVEL 100 INJECTION Works

    ETOVEL 100 INJECTION is an anticancer agent. It works by blocking the abnormal actions of certain cellular proteins (topoisomerase 2) that triggers cancer cell formation. As a result, it reduces cancer formation and stops its further growth within the body.

    How to use ETOVEL 100 INJECTION

    ETOVEL 100 INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into the vein (intravenously).  Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of ETOVEL 100 INJECTION

    Common

    • blood disorders
    • loss of appetite, constipation, stomach pain, diarrhea
    • changes in skin colour (pigmentation)
    • temporary hair loss
    • weakness, tiredness
    • liver damage
    • blood cancer
    • irregular heartbeat
    • high blood pressure
    • sore lips, mouth or throat ulcers
    • dizziness
    • skin rash or itching

    Uncommon

    • tingling or numbness in hands and feet

    Rare

    • acid reflux
    • flushing
    • difficulty in swallowing
    • taste changes
    • fits

    Stop receiving ETOVEL 100 INJECTION and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • signs of allergic reactions (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, tongue and throat causing difficulty in breathing or swallowing)

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Dizziness Or Drowsiness

    Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.

    Nausea And Vomiting

    Stick to simple meals and avoid oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if nausea worsens.

    Skin rash Or Itching

    Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use protective clothing when going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. Consult your doctor if your skin rash worsens.

    Warning & Precautions

    Pregnancy

    Contraindicated

    ETOVEL 100 INJECTION is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice before receiving it. Women of childbearing potential must use a suitable contraceptive method to stop pregnancy while receiving ETOVEL 100 INJECTION and until 6 months after stopping the therapy.

    Breastfeeding

    Contraindicated

    ETOVEL 100 INJECTION may pass through breast milk. Therefore, it is not recommended for use in breast-feeding women. Kindly consult your doctor before receiving it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Use with Caution

    Do not drive or operate any machines if your ability is affected by ETOVEL 100 INJECTION.

    Alcohol

    Consult your doctor

    Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving ETOVEL 100 INJECTION to avoid unwanted reactions.

    Kidney

    Use with Caution

    ETOVEL 100 INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney diseases. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.

    Liver

    Use with Caution

    ETOVEL 100 INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with liver diseases. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.

    Allergy

    Contraindicated

    Talk to your doctor before receiving ETOVEL 100 INJECTION if you are allergic to Etoposide.

    Use In Pediatrics

    Monitoring required

    ETOVEL 100 INJECTION should be used in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) only if prescribed by a physician. Therefore, consult your child’s doctor before administration of ETOVEL 100 INJECTION.

    Use In Geriatrics

    Use with Caution

    ETOVEL 100 INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years or older). Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.

    Others

    ETOVEL 100 INJECTION is not recommended for use if you:

    • are recently vaccinated with live vaccines (including yellow fever vaccine)

    Before receiving ETOVEL 100 INJECTION, inform your doctor if you:

    • have any serious infections
    • recently had radiotherapy or chemotherapy
    • have low albumin levels in blood

    Interactions

    A. Drug - Drug interactions:

    Before receiving ETOVEL 100 INJECTION inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:

    • live vaccines (including yellow fever vaccine)
    • ciclosporin (a medicine used to suppress immune function and to stop graft rejection post-transplant)
    • cisplatin (another medicine used to manage cancer)
    • medicines used to manage epilepsy (such as phenytoin, carbamazepine)
    • warfarin (a medicine used to manage blood clot formation)  
    • medicines used for pain relief (such as phenylbutazone, sodium salicylate, or aspirin)
    • other medicines used for cancer such as anthracyclines (Ex. doxorubicin, epirubicin, daunorubicin)

    Over dosage:

    ETOVEL 100 INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, contact your doctor if you experience any unusual side effects.

    A: ETOVEL 100 INJECTION may make you feel tired or dizzy. Therefore, do not drive or operate any heavy tools or machines if your ability is affected by ETOVEL 100 INJECTION.

    A: ETOVEL 100 INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into the vein (intravenously).

    Q: How to control nausea caused due to ETOVEL 100 INJECTION?

    A: Generally, anticancer medicines are associated with uncontrollable nausea and vomiting. To avoid this, your doctor would prescribe a suitable medicine to control them along with ETOVEL 100 INJECTION. If not, consult your doctor for a suitable anti-emetic medicine. Do not self-manage nausea.
