    Description

Essity Articast Fiberglass Cast Tape is a synthetic casting material used for orthopedic applications where rigid immobilization is needed, such as for fresh or unstable fractures. Made from a knitted fiberglass fabric impregnated with a polyurethane resin, this tape provides support and protection to help in the healing of injured bones, muscles, or ligaments. It is designed to be lightweight and durable, offering an alternative to traditional plaster casts. The material is also radiolucent, which allows for X-rays to be taken without removing the cast.

Lightweight and Resilient: The fiberglass material provides a cast that is both light and strong, enhancing patient comfort and mobility without compromising on durability.
Water-Activated Resin: Features a polyurethane resin that is activated by water, allowing for a quick setting time and a stable, durable cast.
Conformable Application: Its excellent molding ability allows the tape to conform easily to various body contours, ensuring a snug and comfortable fit.
Radiolucent Material: The tape is X-ray compatible, permitting clear radiological imaging without the need to remove the cast.
Moisture Resistant: Articast is designed to not retain moisture, which helps in reducing skin irritation and is more hygienic compared to plaster.

Q: What is Articast Fiberglass Cast Tape used for?

A: Articast is a fiberglass casting tape used for most orthopedic applications where rigid immobilization is required, such as for fresh or unstable fractures. It is designed to provide stable and comfortable support to the injured area.

Q: How is this casting tape applied?

A: Application should be performed by a healthcare professional. It typically involves wrapping the tape around the limb over a protective padding; the tape then hardens when activated by water to form a sturdy cast.

Q: What are the advantages of this fiberglass tape compared to traditional plaster?

A: Fiberglass casts are generally lighter, more durable, and more resistant to moisture than traditional plaster casts. They are also radiolucent, which allows for X-rays to be taken without removing the cast.

    Q: Is the cast waterproof?

A: While the fiberglass material itself is water-resistant, the padding underneath is often not. It is important to follow a doctor's instructions regarding getting the cast wet to avoid skin irritation or other complications.

Q: Can I remove the cast by myself?

A: No, cast removal should always be done by a healthcare professional using a specialized cast saw to avoid injury to the skin or the healing limb.

Immerse one roll of tape at a time in room temperature water (18-24°C) for about 5-10 seconds, squeezing gently to ensure it is thoroughly wet. Shake off excess water and apply in overlapping spiral layers, using smooth and even tension. The cast typically sets in 3-4 minutes and can bear weight after approximately 30 minutes.
