Introduction About EMIKIND MD TABLET
EMIKIND MD TABLET contains Prochlorperazine which belongs to the group of medicines called Phenothiazines. It is used to manage balance problems or dizziness (vertigo) due to inner ear problems such as meniere’s syndrome or labyrinthitis, nausea and vomiting (due to migraine or other causes), mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and mania (over-active behaviour or thoughts). It is also used to manage anxiety in the short term.
Avoid exposure to direct sunlight while taking this medicine as it may cause your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Your doctor might order regular tests while you are taking this medicine. These might include blood tests to determine the white blood cell count, to monitor blood sugar levels and an ECG to check your heart is working properly.
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking EMIKIND MD TABLET as it may cause serious breathing difficulties. EMIKIND MD TABLET is not recommended for use if you have brain damage, anaemia (blood cell disorder), drowsiness, slower breathing and weak pulse, decrease in alertness because of taking certain medications or drinking alcohol, circulatory collapse, central nervous system depression (coma or drug intoxication) and bone marrow depression.
EMIKIND MD TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver or kidney problems, heart problems or a family history of heart problems, diabetes, thyroid problems, glaucoma, stroke and parkinson’s disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.
EMIKIND MD TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant and breast-feeding women. Consult your doctor before taking EMIKIND MD TABLET. It is not recommended for use in children under 1 year of age or who weigh less than 10kg.
EMIKIND MD TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above), especially with dementia. The most common side effects of taking EMIKIND MD TABLET are constipation, dry mouth, drowsiness and blurred vision. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects worsen.

Manage:
- balance problems or dizziness (vertigo) due to inner ear problems such as meniere’s syndrome or labyrinthitis

How EMIKIND MD TABLET Works
EMIKIND MD TABLET works by balancing the chemicals called dopamine and serotonin (that allows communication between nerve cells) and helps to manage mental illness. It also blocks the action of a chemical called dopamine (transfers messages to part of the brain called vomiting centre which triggers nausea and vomiting) in the brain. Thus, helps to manage nausea and vomiting effectively.
How to use EMIKIND MD TABLET
Take EMIKIND MD TABLET as advised by your doctor. Swallow EMIKIND MD TABLET with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of medicine for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of EMIKIND MD TABLET
Common
- constipation
- dry mouth
- drowsiness, (akathisia) inability to remain still
- blurred vision
Uncommon
- low blood pressure
- peripheral oedema
- irregular heartbeat
- dermatitis
- maculopapular eruptions, erythema multiforme
- urticaria, photosensitivity, abnormal pigmentation
- menstrual irregularities
- gynaecomastia (enlargement of male breast tissue)
- intestinal obstruction
- urinary retention
- headache, insomnia
- increased body temperature
- respiratory depression
Rare
Stop taking EMIKIND MD TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- rashes, difficulty in swallowing or breathing, swelling of the lips, face, throat or tongue (signs of allergic reaction)
- neuroleptic malignant syndrome which includes symptoms such as an unusually pale complexion, sweating, rise in temperature, rapid heartbeat, stiff muscles, increased breathing rate, confusion, drowsiness or agitation
- agranulocytosis or leukopenia (a blood disorder characterised by frequent infections such as fever, sore throat or mouth ulcers)
- jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes)
- palpitations (fast, uneven and forceful heartbeats) and breathing problems like wheezing, shortness of breath and chest pain or tightness
- blood clots in the veins of the legs (swelling, pain and redness in the leg), which may travel through blood vessels to the lungs causing chest pain and difficulty in breathing)
- extrapyramidal symptoms such as rigid or stiff muscles, trembling or shaking, body spasm, unusual eye movements such as rolling of the eyes, exaggeration of reflexes, drooling, difficulty moving or loss of muscle power
- sore breast in both men and women
- seizures or fits
- long-lasting and painful erection of the penis
How To Manage Side Effects

Constipation
Try to eat more high-fiber foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables, cereals and drink plenty of water. If this does not help, inform your doctor for receiving alternate management for constipation.

Dizziness Or Drowsiness
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you feel drowsiness. Avoid alcohol consumption as it aggravates drowsiness. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Dry Mouth
Sip water regularly and other sugar free liquids. Do not use mouthwashes that contain alcohol because they can make your mouth dry, use mouthwash that is used only for dry mouth. Limit your caffeine intake. Avoid smoking or using tobacco products. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Headache
Drink ample amount of water and avoid skipping meals. Get adequate rest. Try to be relaxed and stress free. Apply pain relieving balm on your forehead if necessary. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Warning & Precautions

Pregnancy
ContraindicatedEMIKIND MD TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Taking this medicine in the last trimester of pregnancy may lead to symptoms like shaking, muscle stiffness, weakness, sleepiness, agitation, breathing problems and difficulty in feeding the new-born baby. Consult your doctor before taking EMIKIND MD TABLET.

Breastfeeding
ContraindicatedEMIKIND MD TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking EMIKIND MD TABLET.

Driving and Using Machines
Use with CautionDo not drive or operate any machines if you feel sleepy after taking EMIKIND MD TABLET.

Alcohol
Consult your doctorDo not drink alcohol while you are taking EMIKIND MD TABLET as it may cause serious breathing difficulties.

Kidney
Use with CautionEMIKIND MD TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking EMIKIND MD TABLET.

Liver
Use with CautionEMIKIND MD TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Consult your doctor before taking EMIKIND MD TABLET.

Allergy
ContraindicatedDo not take EMIKIND MD TABLET if you are allergic to prochlorperazine or any other ingredients of this medicine.

Heart Disease
Use with CautionEMIKIND MD TABLET should be used with caution in patients with heart problems or a family history of heart problems. Consult your doctor before taking EMIKIND MD TABLET.
Others
EMIKIND MD TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:
- pheochromocytoma (tumour of the adrenal gland)
- brain damage
- anaemia (blood cell disorder), neutropenia (low white blood cell count) and thrombocytopenia (low platelet count)
- drowsiness, slower breathing and weak pulse
- decrease in alertness because of taking certain medications or drinking alcohol
- circulatory collapse
- central nervous system depression (coma or drug intoxication)
Before taking EMIKIND MD TABLET, inform your doctor if you have:
- thyroid problems
- an enlarged prostate gland
- parkinson’s disease, dementia
- epilepsy or fits (seizures), depression
- myasthenia gravis (weakening of muscle)
- glaucoma (pain in eyes with blurred vision)
- low levels of potassium, calcium and magnesium in the blood
- loss of appetite
- abnormally low weight
- stroke and family history of blood clots
- a scheduled surgery which requires spinal anaesthesia
- to undergo blood test or urine test
- encephalopathy
Use in Paediatrics:
EMIKIND MD TABLET is not recommended for use in children under 1 year of age or who weigh less than 10kg. Contact your child’s doctor for advice.
Use in Geriatrics:
EMIKIND MD TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above), especially with dementia. Contact your doctor before taking EMIKIND MD TABLET.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Before taking EMIKIND MD TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- sedatives like diazepam, clonazepam and barbiturates like butabarbital, pentobarbital (medicines used to manage insomnia, anxiety and panic attack)
- antidepressants like amitriptyline, citalopram, escitalopram, venlafaxine (used to manage depression)
- levodopa (medicines used for parkinson’s disease)
- carbamazepine (used to manage epilepsy)
- amiodarone, disopyramide, propranolol or quinidine (medicines used to correct the rhythm of heartbeat)
- doxazosin, terazosin, guanethidine, guanadrel, bepridil, clonidine (used to manage high blood pressure)
- anti-diabetic medicines Ex. glimepiride (used to manage diabetes mellitus)
- anti-cancer drugs (cytotoxics) Ex. vincristine (used to manage cancer)
- antibiotics Ex. clarithromycin, erythromycin, grepafloxacin, sparfloxacin, intravenous erythromycin (medicines used to manage bacterial infections)
- antacids such as aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide (used for indigestion and heartburn)
- anticholinergic drugs Ex. hyoscyamine (used for irritable bowel syndrome)
- amphetamine (used to manage attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)
- adrenaline (used in life threatening allergic reactions)
- desferrioxamine (used in patients who have too much iron in the blood)
- lithium (used to manage some types of mental illnesses)
- opioids Ex. morphine, codeine, methadone (used to manage severe pain)
- antihistamines Ex. diphenhydramine (used to manage allergies)
- cabergoline (medicines used to manage high levels of prolactin)
- metrizamide (used in radiological examination)
- cisapride (used to manage heartburn)
- sultopride, thioridazine (used to manage schizophrenia)
- intravenous vincamine (used to manage dementia)
- halofantrine (used to manage malaria)
- pentamidine (used to manage pneumonia)
- thiazide diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide (used to manage high blood pressure)
- oral anticoagulants Ex. warfarin (used to manage or manages blood clots)
- muscle relaxants Ex. chlorzoxazone (medicine used to manage pain and muscle stiffness)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of EMIKIND MD TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Overdosage symptoms of EMIKIND MD TABLET includes feeling sleepy or dizzy, increased or rapid heartbeat, feeling very cold and confused, writhing movements, feeling restless, stiffness or shaking and loss of consciousness.
