Introduction About ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP
ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP contains Amoxycillin which belongs to the group of medicines called Penicillin. ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP is used to manage infections in pediatric patients caused by bacteria that affects different parts of the body.
It is also used in combination with other medicines in pediatric patients to manage stomach ulcers.
ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP is not recommended for use in children allergic to amoxicillin, penicillin, and/or other antibiotics.
Before administering ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP, inform your doctor if the child has glandular fever (viral infection caused by Epstein Barr Virus), unable to urinate regularly, kidney problems, and/or liver problems (such as hepatic impairment).
ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women since it is used only in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). It is also not recommended for use in elderly patients.
The most common side effects of taking ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP are skin rash, nausea and diarrhoea. Consult and inform your doctor before taking the medicine.
Uses Of ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP
Used in paediatric patients:
- To manage infections caused by bacteria that affects different parts of the body.
- To manage stomach ulcer (in combination with other medicines)
How ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP Works
ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP works by inhibiting the synthesis of penicillin binding proteins which leads to activation of autolytic enzymes in bacterial cell wall resulting in lysis/destruction of bacterial cell wall thus managing the spread of infection in affected children.
How to use ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP
Administer ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP in child as advised by your physician. Add water upto the mark on the bottle and shake well. The volume should be adjusted upto the mark by adding more water if necessary. Close the bottle tightly and shake the mixture well. Your doctor will decide the exact dose and duration of management for your child depending on child’s age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP
Common
- skin rash
- diarrhoea
- nausea
Uncommon
- vomiting
- mild itchy rash (round, pink-red patches), ‘hive-like’ swollen areas on the forearms, legs, palms, hands or feet
Rare
Stop administering ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP and consult and inform your doctor immediately in case your child experiences:
- signs of allergic reactions such as skin itching/rash, swelling of the face/lips/tongue/body, and/or breathing difficulties.
- signs of inflammation of blood vessel walls (due to allergic reaction) such as rash/pinpoint red round spots under the skin surface or bruising of the skin, joint pain (arthritis) and kidney problems.
- signs of delayed allergic reaction (that occurs usually after 7 to 12 days of use) such as rashes, rashes, fever, joint pains and enlargement of lymph nodes under the arms
- signs of erythema multiforme (skin reaction) such as itchy reddish-purple patches on the skin (especially on the palms of the hands or soles of the feet), ‘hive-like’ raised swollen areas on the skin, tender areas on the surfaces of the mouth, eyes and genitals, fever, tiredness)
- signs of other severe skin reactions include changes in skin colour, bumps under the skin, blistering, pustules, peeling, redness, pain, itching, scaling, fever, headaches and body aches.
- signs of Dress (Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms) such as flu-like symptoms such as rash, fever, swollen glands, and abnormal blood test results (including increased white blood cells (eosinophilia) and liver enzymes)
- signs of problems (associated with blood cell) such as fever, chills, sore throat or other signs of an infection, or bruise easily.
- signs of Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction (acute febrile reaction) such as fever, chills, headache, muscle pain and skin rash.
- inflammation of the colon with diarrhoea (sometimes containing blood), pain and fever
- signs of serious (reversible) liver effects such as severe diarrhoea with bleeding, blisters/ redness/bruising of the skin, darker urine/paler stools, yellowing of the skin/the whites of the eyes (jaundice)
How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea/vomiting:
Have the child take this medicine with or just after a meal or a snack. Let the child stick to simple meals and avoid having rich or spicy food.
Diarrhoea:
Ask the child to drink lots of fluids such as water or fruit juices so that the child is sufficiently hydrated. Do not administer any medicine to manage the condition. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Warning & Precautions
Pregnancy
ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP is not recommended for use in pregnant women as it is used only in children.
Breastfeeding
ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it is used only in children.
Kidney
ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP should be taken with caution in children with kidney problems. Consult and inform your doctor before taking the medicine.
Liver
ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP should be taken with caution in children with liver problems such as hepatic impairment. Consult and inform your doctor before taking the medicine.
Allergy
Do not administer ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP if the child is allergic to Amoxicillin, other penicillin or antibiotics, and/or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Others
Before taking ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP inform your doctor if the child:
- has been not urinating regularly
- have signs of glandular fever (viral infection caused by Epstein-Barr virus) such as fever, sore throat, swollen glands and extreme tiredness).
Use in Paediatrics:
ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP is recommended for use in children and adolescents (below 18 years of age). Consult and inform your doctor before taking the medicine.
Use in Geriatrics:
ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP is not recommended for use in elderly patients as it is used only in children.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP, inform your doctor if the child is on any of the following medicine:
- medicines used to manage gout (Ex. allopurinol, probenecid)
- medicines used to manage blood clots (Ex. warfarin)
- medicines used to manage infections caused by bacteria including pneumonia and other respiratory tract infections such as tetracycline (Ex. lymecycline, methacycline, minocycline)
- methotrexate (used to manage certain types of cancer)
- oral typhoid vaccine (used to manage typhoid fever)
Overdosage:
If the child or anyone else accidentally take too much of ELMOX 250MG DRY SYRUP, Consult and inform your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are stomach upset (associated with signs such as nausea/vomiting/diarrhoea), and/or crystals in the urine (associated with signs such as cloudy urine, difficulty while urinating).
