    Introduction About EFIMOX ER TABLET

    EFIMOX ER TABLET contains Amoxicillin which belongs to the group of medicines called Penicillins. EFIMOX ER TABLET is used in the management of tonsillitis (inflamed oval shaped pads of tissue at back of throat) and pharyngitis (inflammation of pharynx) that occur secondary to infection by Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria, in adults and paediatric patient (aged above 12 years).

    EFIMOX ER TABLET is not recommended for use in patients allergic to amoxicillin or penicillin.  It is also not recommended for use in patients suffering from mononucleosis (viral infections caused by Epstein Bar Virus).

    Before taking EFIMOX ER TABLET, inform your doctor if you have kidney problems, and/or liver problems (such as liver impairment).

    EFIMOX ER TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women. The medicine can be used in children and adolescents (aged 12 to 18 years) after consulting the doctor.

    The most common side effects reported after taking the medicine are development of fungal infection, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting, along with pain in abdomen and head. Consult and inform your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens.

    • Manage tonsillitis and pharyngitis that occur secondary to infection caused by bacteria Streptococcus pyogenes

    How EFIMOX ER TABLET Works

    EFIMOX ER TABLET works by inhibiting the synthesis of penicillin binding proteins which leads to activation of autolytic enzymes in bacterial cell wall resulting in lysis/destruction of bacterial cell wall thus providing relief from tonsillitis and pharyngitis in affected individuals.

    How to use EFIMOX ER TABLET

    Take EFIMOX ER TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass full of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of EFIMOX ER TABLET

    Common

    • yeast (fungal) infection
    • nausea
    • diarrhea
    • vomiting
    • pain in abdomen
    • headache

    Rare

    Stop taking EFIMOX ER TABLET and consult your doctor immediately if you:

    • develop severe and persistent watery diarrhea
    • develop other infections

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Headache:

    Stay hydrated and avoid taking products rich in caffeine and avoid harsh lights and loud sounds.  Apply a pain-relieving balm on forehead if needed.

    Nausea and vomiting:

    Try to take EFIMOX ER TABLET with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Consult your doctor if symptom gets worse.


     

    Warning & Precautions

    Pregnancy

    EFIMOX ER TABLET should be used with caution during pregnancy and in women planning for pregnancy. Consult and inform your doctor before taking the medicine.

    Breastfeeding

    EFIMOX ER TABLET should be used with caution in breastfeeding women. Consult and inform your doctor before taking the medicine.

     

    Kidney

    EFIMOX ER TABLET should be used with caution in patients diagnosed with kidney problems such as renal impairment. Consult and inform your doctor before taking it.

    Liver

    EFIMOX ER TABLET should be used with caution in patients diagnosed with liver problems. Consult and inform your doctor before taking it.

    Allergy

    Do not take EFIMOX ER TABLET if you are allergic to amoxicillin, penicillin and/or any other ingredients present in the medicine. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

    Others

    EFIMOX ER TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

    • are diagnosed with mononucleosis (viral infections caused by Epstein Bar Virus)

    Use in Paediatrics:

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug Interactions:

    Before taking EFIMOX ER TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • oral contraceptives (medicines used for managing pregnancy) Ex.estrogen &  progestin, desogestrel & ethinyl estradiol

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of EFIMOX ER TABLET, visit the nearby hospital or consult your doctor immediately. Symptoms of overdosage are interstitial nephritis (inflammation and swelling of spaces between the kidney tubules), and/or crystals in the urine (associated with signs such as cloudy urine, difficulty while urinating).
