Introduction About EBAST SUSPENSION
EBAST SUSPENSION contains Ebastine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antihistamines. It is used for the symptomatic management of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and it is also used for chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and children aged above 2 years of age.
Seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis is an inflammatory condition of the nose that occurs when exposed to allergens. Symptoms include nasal obstruction, sneezing, itching or runny nose and chronic idiopathic urticaria is characterized by red, itchy skin welts that last more than six weeks.
EBAST SUSPENSION should be used with caution in patients with impaired kidney, liver function, heart diseases, low blood potassium levels. Consult your doctor before taking it.
EBAST SUSPENSION should be used during pregnancy only if it is considered clearly necessary and it is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.
EBAST SUSPENSION should be used with caution in children aged above 2 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking it. The most common side effects of taking EBAST SUSPENSION are headache, drowsiness and dry mouth. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms get worse.

How EBAST SUSPENSION Works
EBAST SUSPENSION works by blocking the effect of histamine (a chemical messenger) which is responsible for the allergic reactions in the body, thereby providing relief from allergic symptoms such as swelling, itching, running nose, sneezing, rashes and watery eyes.
How to use EBAST SUSPENSION
Take EBAST SUSPENSION as advised by your physician. Shake well before use. It can be taken with or without food. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of EBAST SUSPENSION
Common
- headache
- drowsiness
- dry mouth
Uncommon
- abdominal pain, nausea, indigestion
- sleeplessness
- pharyngitis (sore throat)
- asthenia (weakness)
- epistaxis (nosebleed)
- rhinitis, sinusitis (infection or inflammation of nose and sinuses)
How To Manage Side Effects
Headache:
Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or ORS (Oral Rehydrating Solution) and apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if necessary. Contact your doctor if the headache did not improve.
Drowsiness:
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operate any machines while you are feeling drowsiness. Do not consume alcohol, as it can aggravate your drowsiness. Contact your doctor if the drowsiness did not improve.
Dry mouth:
Try to drink plenty of cold water. Sip on cold unsweetened drinks and use lip balm if your lips are dry. Try to brush your teeth twice a day and use mouthwash. Consult your doctor if the dry mouth gets worse.
Nausea:
Try to take EBAST SUSPENSION with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. Consult your doctor if the nausea gets worse.
Indigestion:
Try to have smaller and frequent meals and eat and drink slowly. Try to reduce consumption of tea, coffee, cola or alcohol and lose weight if you are obese. Avoid smoking and do not eat three to four hours before going to bed. Consult your doctor if the indigestion does not improve.
Stomach pain:
Try to rest and relax. Eat small meals but take frequently. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. Contact your doctor if your stomach pain did not improve.

Pregnancy
EBAST SUSPENSION should be used during pregnancy only if it is considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking EBAST SUSPENSION.
Breastfeeding
EBAST SUSPENSION is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it is not known whether this medicine passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking EBAST SUSPENSION.
Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel sleepiness after taking EBAST SUSPENSION.
Alcohol
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking EBAST SUSPENSION since it may increase sleepiness.
Kidney
EBAST SUSPENSION should be used with caution in patients with renal insufficiency. Consult your doctor before taking EBAST SUSPENSION.
Liver
EBAST SUSPENSION should be used with caution in patients with impaired liver function. Consult your doctor before taking EBAST SUSPENSION.
Allergy
EBAST SUSPENSION is not recommended for use if you are allergic to Ebastine or any of its ingredients.
Heart Disease
EBAST SUSPENSION should be used with caution in patients with QTc interval prolongation (irregular electrical activity of the heart). Consult your doctor before taking EBAST SUSPENSION.
Others
Before taking EBAST SUSPENSION, inform your doctor if you:
- have hypokalemia
Use in Pediatrics:
EBAST SUSPENSION should be used with caution in children aged above 2 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking EBAST SUSPENSION.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Before taking EBAST SUSPENSION, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- ketoconazole, itraconazole (medicines used to manage fungal infections)
- clarithromycin, erythromycin (medicines used to manage bacterial infections)
- diazepam (a medicine used to anxiety, alcohol withdrawal and seizures)
- rifampicin (used to manage tuberculosis)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of EBAST SUSPENSION, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
