DUROGESIC 25MCG PATCH contains Fentanyl which belongs to the group of medicine called Opioid Analgesics. It is used to manage severe long-lasting pain. It can also be used in the management of chronic cancer pain and other severe pains that is not controlled by conventional pain killers.
DUROGESIC 25MCG PATCH is suitable for use both in adults and in children (aged 2 years or above) who need continuous pain management. Before using DUROGESIC 25MCG PATCH inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney or heart problems.
You must also inform your doctor if you have asthma or any other breathing problems, low blood pressure, mental health problems, chronic alcoholism or a previous history of drug abuse as a precaution.
DUROGESIC 25MCG PATCH is not recommended for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women due to increased risk of side effects. When DUROGESIC 25MCG PATCH is used in children, carefully monitor your child’s health condition. Make sure that they do not peel the patch or accidentally swallow the medicine, as it could lead to fatal outcomes.
Be cautious of storing the medicine strictly out of reach of children. Adults using DUROGESIC 25MCG PATCH should make sure that the medicine is not accidentally stuck to their children or to other family members while coming in close contact.

DUROGESIC 25MCG PATCH is a pain-relieving medication. It works by blocking the transmission of pain signals between the affected sites and the brain which helps in reducing pain sensation.
How to use DUROGESIC 25MCG PATCH
Use DUROGESIC 25MCG PATCH as advised by your physician. It is for external use only. Clean and dry the skin sites where patch needs to be applied. Carefully peel the shiny plastic backing away from the patch and place the sticky side of the patch onto the skin.
Make sure that the patch sticks well, especially the edges. Wash your hands before and after handling the patch.
Do not use soap, soap or any other cleansers, creams, moisturisers, oils or talc before applying the patch. Do not stick the patch on the skin straight after a hot bath or shower.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose, duration of therapy and skin sites where the patch has to be stuck based on your age, body weight and health condition. Inform your doctor immediately if the patch falls off or tears before it needs changing.
Avoid having long hot baths, hot spa baths, sunbaths or exposing the patch towards direct heat sources (such heating pads, hot-water bottles or heat or tanning lamps) as it may increase the amount of medicine released from the patch. Do not stop using DUROGESIC 25MCG PATCH without consulting your doctor.
Side Effects Of DUROGESIC 25MCG PATCH
Common
- nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea
- sleepiness, dizziness, vertigo (sensation of spinning)
- headache
- loss of appetite, stomach pain or indigestion
- difficulty in sleeping
- depression, anxiety and confusion
- hallucination (seeing, feeling, or hearing things that are not real)
- muscle tremors or spasms
- tingling or crawling sensation in the skin
- uneven heart rate, high blood pressure
- shortness of breath
- dry mouth
- excessive sweating
- skin rash, itching or redness
- unable to pass urine or empty bladder completely
- tiredness or weakness
- feeling cold
- swollen hands, ankles or feet
Uncommon
- feeling extremely happy (euphoria)
- reduced sensitivity especially in the skin (hypoaesthesia)
- memory problems
- blurred vision
- slow heartbeat, low blood pressure
- blue colour to the skin due to low oxygen in the blood
- loss of contractions of the gut
- difficulty in getting or keeping an erection, sexual problems
Rare
- constricted pupils (miosis)
Stop using DUROGESIC 25MCG PATCH and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- severe allergic reaction (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, eyes, lips, tongue, throat, raised lumps on the skin, fever)
- shortness of breath or breathing problems during sleep, night awakening due to shortness of breath
- sleep-related hypoxaemia (low oxygen level in the blood)
- exacerbation of pervious pain
- excessive drowsiness with slow or shallow breathing
- fever
- fits
How To Manage Side Effects

Constipation
Eat plenty of fiber rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals. Drink plenty of fluids. Exercise more regularly. Consult your doctor if this side effect bothers you.

Dizziness Or Drowsiness
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.

Headache
Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your headache. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.

Nausea And Vomiting
Stick to simple meals and avoid oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if nausea worsens.

Pregnancy

Breastfeeding

Driving and Using Machines

Alcohol

Others
DUROGESIC 25MCG PATCH is not recommended for use if you:
- have acute pain such as surgical pain
Before using DUROGESIC 25MCG PATCH, inform your doctor if you:
- ever had a brain tumor
- ever had persistent headaches
- recently had a head injury
- suffer from myasthenia gravis (muscle disorder causing severe muscle pain or tenderness)
- have a previous history of drug abuse
- have a habit of smoking
- have any mental health disorders (such as depression, anxiety or a personality disorder) and receiving management for it
- are scheduled for any surgeries in the upcoming days

A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before using DUROGESIC 25MCG PATCH, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- other medicines used for pain relief (such as buprenorphine, nalbuphine, pentazocine, gabapentin and pregabalin)
- medicines that reduce anxiety and helps you fall asleep (such as temazepam, zaleplon, zolpidem, alprazolam, clonazepam, diazepam, hydroxyzine, lorazepam)
- medicines used for mental conditions (such as aripiprazole, haloperidol, olanzapine, risperidone or chlorpromazine)
- medicines used for relaxing muscles (such as cyclobenzaprine or diazepam)
- medicines used to manage depression (such as isocarboxazid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine, citalopram, duloxetine, escitalopram, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine, sertraline, or venlafaxine)
- antihistamines (medicines used to manage allergic conditions) such as cetirizine, levocetirizine, chlorpheniramine, clemastine, cyproheptadine, diphenhydramine, or hydroxyzine
- antibiotics used to manage infection (Ex. erythromycin or clarithromycin)
- medicines used to manage fungal infection (Ex. itraconazole, ketoconazole, fluconazole, or voriconazole)
- medicines used to manage HIV infection (Ex. ritonavir)
- medicines used to manage an irregular heartbeat (Ex. amiodarone, diltiazem or verapamil)
- medicines to manage tuberculosis (Ex. rifampicin)
- medicines used to manage epilepsy (Ex. carbamazepine, phenobarbital, or phenytoin)
- medicines used to manage nausea or motion sickness (such as promethazine)
- medicines used to manage heartburn or ulcers (Ex. cimetidine)
- medicines used to manage angina or high blood pressure (such as nicardipine)
- medicines used to manage blood cancer (such as idelalisib)
- general anaesthetic (used to cause loss of consciousness) such as etomidate
Overdosage:
