Introduction About DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS
DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS contains Phenylephrine which belongs to the group of medicines called Alpha-1 adrenergic agonist. It is used to enlarge the pupil of your eye. Your doctor may use it to examine your eye more closely or as part of a management program.
DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in patients with heart disease, fast heart beats, high blood pressure, overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism), diabetes mellitus. DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS should be used with caution in patients with asthma. Consult your doctor before using it.
DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS should be used in pregnancy only if clearly necessary. It should be used with caution in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before using it.
DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age and in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before using it.
The most common side effects of using DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS are local irritation or stinging or feeling of having something in the eye on instillation, blurred vision, sensitivity to light etc. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

How DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS Works
DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS is an alpha-1 adrenergic agonist and works by enlarging the pupil of the eye. Thus, helps the doctor to examine the eye more closely or for management program.
How to use DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS
Use DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS as advised by your physician. It is for ophthalmic use only. DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS is normally instilled by your doctor. The doctor will instil the drops in your eye.
But if you are putting the eye drops in yourself, then wash your hands, carefully dry your eyes using a tissue. Pull your lower eyelid down gently and then carefully place the drop inside your lower eyelid.
Close your eye and blink a few times to make sure your eye is covered by the liquid. Close the eyelids. It is advisable to press gently on the inner corner of your eyelid for 3 minutes. This will help stop the solution draining into your nose and throat. Repeat same with the other eye and discard the unused medicine.
Side Effects Of DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS
Common
- local irritation or stinging or feeling of having something in the eye on instillation
- blurred vision and/or problems seeing clearly
- sensitivity to light
- headache
- red eyes
Uncommon
- allergic reactions or conjunctival sensitivity (abnormal sensitivity of the conjunctiva (thin, clear, moist membrane that coats the white outer surface of the eye)
Rare
Stop using DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- spasm of the blood vessel of the heart, fast or irregular heartbeat and heart attacks
- whitening of the skin
- trembling or tremors, increased sweating
- breathlessness, which may be severe and usually worsens on lying down
- symptoms of allergic reaction such as rash, itching or hives on the skin, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body causing shortness of breath, wheezing
How To Manage Side Effects
Headache:
Avoid bright lights, rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or ORS (Oral Rehydrating Solution) and apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if necessary. Contact your doctor if your headache did not improve.

Pregnancy
DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS should be used in pregnancy only if clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before using it.
Breastfeeding
DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS should be used with caution in breastfeeding women as it is not known whether this medicine passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before using it.
Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or use machines while using DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS as it can make your eyes sensitive to bright lights and blurred vision for some time.
Allergy
Do not use DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS if you are allergic to Phenylephrine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Lungs
DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS should be used with caution in patients with asthma. Consult your doctor before using it.
Heart Disease
DROSYN 10% EYE DROPSis not recommended for use in patients with heart disease, fast heart beats, high blood pressure. Consult your doctor before using it.
Others
DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS is not recommended for use if you:
- have bulges in major blood vessels (aneurysms)
- have an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism)
- have high blood sugar level (diabetes mellitus)
- have closed angle glaucoma (unless previously managed with iridectomy (surgical removal of part of the colored part of the eye) or having a narrow angle glaucoma (increased eye pressure)
- are planning for surgery
Before using DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS, inform your doctor if you:
- have red inflamed eyes
- have damage to the cornea (transparent membrane covering the surface of the eye)
- have narrow arteries in the head (cerebral arteriosclerosis)
- develop increased internal pressure when the pupil is enlarged
Use in Pediatrics:
DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age due to increased risk of serious side effects. Contact your doctor before using it.
Use in Geriatrics:
DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before using it.
Interactions
A. Drug - Drug interactions:
Before using DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- medicines used for depression (Ex. phenelzine, selegiline, amitriptyline)
- medicines used to manage high blood pressure, irregular heartbeats, heart failure (Ex. atenolol, bisoprolol, furosemide, quinidine, digoxin)
- anesthetic Ex. halothane (medicines used in anesthesia)
- atropine (used to manage slow heart rate)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally use too much of DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are headache, anxiety, nausea and vomiting and ventricular arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats).

Q: Can I wear lens while using DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS?
A: No, DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS is not recommended for use if you wear contact lens. Your doctor will ask you to remove your contact lenses prior to the administration of the drops. There is no information on the effect of this medicine on contact lenses. Therefore, do not wear your contact lenses until the effects of the drops have completely worn off.
Q: What if I forget to use DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS?
A: If you forget to use DROSYN 10% EYE DROPS, you should take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is nearly time for the next dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

A: There have been reports of serious cardiovascular reactions, including ventricular arrhythmias (fast heart beats) and myocardial infarctions (heart attack), particularly in patients with pre-existing heart diseases. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any chest pain, palpitations.
