DOXYDAY CAPSULE is a combination of Doxycycline and Saccharomyces Boulardii which belongs to the group of medicines called Tetracycline antibiotics and Probiotics. It helps to manage inflammatory bowel diseases like colitis. Colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease which causes inflammation and ulcers in the large intestine. It is characterized by intense pain and tenderness in the stomach, weight loss, loss of appetite, joint pain, general weakness, watery diarrhea, and fever.
DOXYDAY CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients having liver, and severe kidney problems, myasthenia gravis, porphyria, systemic lupus erythematous, diarrhoea, and syphilis. Consult your doctor before taking DOXYDAY CAPSULE. DOXYDAY CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.
DOXYDAY CAPSULE is not recommended for use in children and adolescents aged below 8 years. DOXYDAY CAPSULE is not recommended for use in elderly patients. Consult your doctor for advice before taking it. The most common side effects of taking DOXYDAY CAPSULE are sunlight sensitivity, headache, low blood pressure, nausea (feeling sick), and vomiting. Consult your physician if the symptoms are not improving.

How DOXYDAY CAPSULE Works
DOXYDAY CAPSULE is effective in colitis where doxycycline acts by stopping the growth of disease-causing bacteria by inhibiting the protein synthesis necessary for bacterial growth. Saccharomyces Boulardi works by inhibiting the action of toxic products released by the bacteria and inhibits the production of cytokines thereby reducing inflammation.
How to use DOXYDAY CAPSULE
Always take DOXYDAY CAPSULE as directed by your physician. Swallow the DOXYDAY CAPSULE as a whole and do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose, frequency and duration depending on your condition.
Side Effects Of DOXYDAY CAPSULE
Common
- sensitivity to sunlight which may cause skin rash, itchiness, redness, or severe sunburn when exposed to sunlight or after using a sun bed
- high pressure in the skull causing severe headaches, double or blurred vision or permanent loss of vision, blind spots, and leg swelling due to fluid retention
- headache
- low blood pressure
- nausea (feeling sick), vomiting
- rashes characterised by flat or elevated red, pink or brown lesions, hives (urticaria)
- Henoch Schönlein purpura which causes small blood vessels to be inflamed and characterised by a purplish rash
- increased heart rate
- shortness of breath or breathlessness
Uncommon
- vaginal infection causing soreness and itchiness of the rectal or genital area)
- heartburn or indigestion
Rare
- candidiasis or yeast infection around the anus or genital area
- signs of pseudomembranous colitis like severe, watery, or bloody diarrhoea, fever or cramps and clostridium difficile colitis with inflammation of the colon (the longest part of the large intestine)
- symptoms of blood disorders may include weakness, tiredness, easy bruising, or bleeding, and more prone to infection
- jarisch-herxheimer reaction which causes muscle pain, fever, chills, headache, and skin rash
- porphyria with a sensitivity of the skin to sunlight, inflammation of nerves and stomach pain
- discolouration of thyroid tissue which does not affect thyroid function
- decreased appetite
- bulging fontanelles in infants (soft spot-on head)
- anxiety, flushing
- signs of pancreatitis like severe upper abdominal pain
- symptoms of inflammation or ulcers of the gastrointestinal tract include indigestion, difficulty swallowing, sore mouth
- signs of liver failure or hepatitis include right upper abdomen pain, jaundice or sleepiness, jaundice (yellowing of skin or white of the eyes)
- dermatitis exfoliative characterised by redness and peeling of the skin
- photo onycholysis or loosening of the nail from the nail bed when exposed to the sun
- hyperpigmentation of skin
- joints or muscles pain
Stop taking DOXYDAY CAPSULE and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- tinnitus or ringing or buzzing sound in the ear
- severe skin reactions like erythema multiforme (circular, irregular red patches), toxic epidermal necrolysis (peeling, reddening, and swelling that resembles burns), stevens-johnson syndrome (rash with fever, flushing, blisters or ulcers)
- symptoms of an allergic reaction like sudden difficulty in breathing, wheeziness, chest pain, fever, swellings of the face, lips, tongue, throat, hands or feet, rash or itching (especially affecting the whole body), inflammation of the membrane around the heart (pericarditis), worsening of systemic lupus erythematosus (autoimmune disease)
- symptoms of DRESS (drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms) include fever, skin rash, and swollen lymph nodes
How To Manage Side Effects

Diarrhea
Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor.

Headache
Apply a hot or cold-water bag on your head. Rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee. Have adequate sleep to feel refreshed. Consult your doctor for advice.

Nausea And Vomiting
Take this medicine with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Try to Avoid oil-rich or spicy foods, sugary snacks, and drinks. Try to drink liquid slowly along with your meals, or in between meals. Consult your doctor if your symptom is not improving.

Skin rash Or Itching
Try to avoid hot baths because they may cause skin irritation. Do not keep rubbing over the affected area. Use sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors. Consult your physician if the symptoms are not improving.

Stomach Pain
Try to rest and relax. Try to have smaller and more frequent meals. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. Talk to your if the symptoms do not improve.

Pregnancy
ContraindicatedDOXYDAY CAPSULE is not recommended for use in a pregnant woman or woman planning for pregnancy. Consult your doctor for advice before taking DOXYDAY CAPSULE.

Breastfeeding

Driving and Using Machines
Use with CautionDo not drive or operate any machines, because DOXYDAY CAPSULE may cause visual disturbances like blurred vision. Consult your doctor before taking DOXYDAY CAPSULE.

Alcohol

Kidney

Allergy

Others
Before taking DOXYDAY CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you:
- have myasthenia gravis (unusual weakness and tiredness of certain muscles)
- have porphyria (a rare genetic disorder of blood pigments)
- have systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) (a condition characterised by rash, hair loss, malaise, fever, and joint pain)
- have diarrhoea or have suffered from problems with your stomach or intestines.
- have syphilis
Use in pediatrics:
DOXYDAY CAPSULE is strictly not recommended for use in children below 8 years of age. It should be used with caution in children between 8 years to less than 12 years old. Consult your doctor for advice before taking DOXYDAY CAPSULE.
Use in geriatrics:
DOXYDAY CAPSULE is not recommended for use in elderly patients. Consult your doctor for advice.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking DOXYDAY CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:’
- penicillin antibiotics (medicines used to manage infections)
- rifampicin (used to manage tuberculosis)
- quinapril (a medicine used to manage high blood pressure)
- anticoagulants used to manage blood clots (Ex. warfarin)
- oral contraceptives pills (used to manage pregnancy)
- ergotamine (a medicine used to manage headaches)
- barbiturates like phenobarbital (used to induce sleep)
- carbamazepine, phenytoin, primidone (a medicine used to manage fits or epilepsy
- ciclosporin (used to manage graft rejection after organ transplantation)
- methoxyflurane (used as an anaesthetic agent)
- methotrexate (a medicine used to manage cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and psoriasis)
- antacids like aluminium, calcium, magnesium or other medicines containing zinc salts, iron, and bismuth (used to reduce heartburn and indigestion)
- retinoids (used to manage various skin conditions)
