    Introduction About DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION

    DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION contains Docetaxel which belongs to the group of medicines called Taxoids. DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION is used in the management of breast cancer, special forms of lung cancer (non-small cell lung cancer), prostate cancer, gastric (stomach) cancer and/or head and neck cancer in affected individuals.        

    DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients who are allergic to docetaxel. It is not recommended for use in patients with low number of white blood cells and in patients suffering from severe liver disease.   

    Before receiving DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are alcohol dependent, and/or suffering from epilepsy, heart and/or kidney disease.

    DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION is not recommended for use during pregnancy unless it is clearly necessary. Women of child-bearing potential should use effective contraception method to avoid getting pregnant while receiving DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION. The medicine is also not recommended for use in breastfeeding women.  

    DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION should be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) which is also advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years) after consulting the doctor.  

    The most common side effects of receiving DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION are infection, hair loss, headache, loss of appetite, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, and/or constipation. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsen.

    Uses Of DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION

    • Manage breast cancer and special forms of lung cancer (non-small cell lung cancer)
    • Manage prostate cancer, gastric cancer and head & neck cancer

    How DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION Works

    DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION works by interfering with the microtubule structures in the cell (substance which aids cancer cells to divide and multiply) thus inhibiting the growth of cancer cells and stopping its spread in affected individuals.   

    How to use DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION

    DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as an intravenous infusion. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION

    Common

    • infections, decrease in red and white blood cells count, low platelet count
    • hair loss
    • headache, loss of appetite, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea
    • sores in the mouth, dry mouth, difficulty/painful swallowing
    • sleeplessness, tiredness, dizziness, dehydration
    • signs of allergic reactions such as flushing, skin reactions, itching, chest tightness, difficulty in breathing, fever/chills, back pain, low blood pressure
    • tingling/prickling sensation in joints/muscles, redness and swelling of palms of hands / soles of feet, change in the colour of your nails
    • alteration in sense of taste
    • inflammation of throat and nose, bleeding from nose, inflammation of eye/increased tearing of the eyes, breath muscle aches and pains, back pain/bone pain
    • nasal drainage, swelling due to lymphatic drainage
    • shortness of breath, low blood pressure
    • change/absence of menstrual period
    • flu-like symptoms
    • weight gain/loss
    • infection of the upper respiratory tract
    • oral candidiasis
    • hearing impaired, inflammation of oesophagus
    • irregular/rapid heartbeat

    Uncommon

    • skin reactions at injection site
    • fainting, phlebitis (inflammation of the vein)/swelling
    • blood clots
    • blood cancer (may occur when used with other anticancer management)

    Rare

    • inflammation of colon/intestine, intestinal perforation

    Inform your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects while receiving DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION:                     

    • signs of severe allergic reaction such as flushing, skin reactions, itching, chest tightness, difficulty in breathing, fever/chills, back pain, low blood pressure
    • fever
    • signs of serious gastrointestinal toxicity such as abdominal pain/tenderness, diarrhoea, rectal haemorrhage, blood in stool and/or fever
    • vision problems especially blurred vision
    • signs of acute or worsening lung problems such as fever, shortness of breath and/or cough
    • skin reactions such as stevens-johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis (associated with signs such as blistering, peeling/bleeding on any part of skin with/without a rash), and acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (associated with signs such as red, scaly widespread rash with bumps under the swollen skin accompanied with fever)
    • signs of ventricular arrhythmia/ tachycardia (condition marked by irregular heart rhythms) such as irregular/rapid heartbeat, severe shortness of breath, dizziness, and/or fainting
    • signs of tumour lysis syndrome (serious condition marked by massive death of cancer cells) such as seizures, kidney failure and/or heart rhythm disturbance

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Constipation

    Try to eat high-fiber foods such as vegetables, cereals, fresh fruit and drink plenty of water. Involve in regular exercise (going for a daily walk or run) and if this does not help, inform your doctor for receiving alternate management for constipation.

    Diarrhea

    Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to manage diarrhea. Inform your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

    Dizziness Or Drowsiness

    Try to rest and get enough sleep. Try to avoid driving or operating any tools or machines while you feel dizzy. Limit consumption of alcohol, as it can aggravate dizziness. Inform your doctor if the symptom worsens.

    Dry Mouth

    Try to drink plenty of cold water and sip on cold unsweetened drinks and use lip balm if your lips are dry. Brush your teeth twice a day and use mouthwash. Inform your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

    Headache

    If DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION causes headache, then take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Try to avoid drinking alcohol. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Headaches should usually go away after the first week of receiving DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION. If it lasts more than a week or severe, inform your doctor.

    Indigestion

    Try to have smaller and more frequent meals and drink slowly. Reduce consumption of coffee, cola, tea or alcohol and lose weight if you are obese. Try to avoid smoking and don’t have rich, fatty or spicy foods. Inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

    Nausea And Vomiting

    Receive DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Inform your doctor if symptom gets worse.

    Tiredness

    Make sure you take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid or limit the consumption of alcohol. Try to receive DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION at a time when you can sit down (or lie down) when the symptoms are at their worst. Avoid driving or using tools or machinery until you feel well.

    DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION is not recommended for use during pregnancy unless it is clearly necessary. Women of child-bearing potential should use effective contraception method while receiving DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION and for 2 months after the end of management, since it may harm the unborn baby. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.  

    Breastfeeding

    Contraindicated

    DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before receiving DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Use with Caution

    Do not drive and operate machines if DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION affects your ability to drive or operate any machines.

    Alcohol

    Consult your doctor

    Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION since it may cause harmful effects to the patient.

    Kidney

    Use with Caution

    DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor before receiving DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION.  

    Liver

    Consult your doctor

    DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with serious liver disease. It should be used with caution in patients with other liver disease. Consult doctor before receiving DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION.   

    Allergy

    Contraindicated

    Do not receive DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION if you are allergic to Docetaxel and/or any other ingredients of this medicine.

    Heart Disease

    Use with Caution

    DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION should be received with caution in patients with heart disease. Consult your doctor before receiving DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION.

    Use In Pediatrics

    Use with Caution

    DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION should be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Consult your child’s doctor for advice before administration of the medicine.

    Use In Geriatrics

    Use with Caution

    DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years). Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine. 

    Others

    DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION is not recommended for use if you:

    • have too low number of white blood cells

    A. Drug-Drug interactions

    Before receiving DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

    • ketoconazole, itraconazole (medicine used to manage fungal infection)
    • ritonavir (medicine used to manage viral infections)
    • cisplatin, cyclosporine (medicine used to manage cancer)
    • doxorubicin (medicine used to manage cancer)
    • erythromycin, troleandomycin (medicine used to manage bacterial infection)
    • terfenadine (medicine used to manage allergy)
    • dalfopristin, quinupristin (medicine used to manage infection of skin and blood)
    • vaccine for BCG, measles, mumps, poliovirus, rotavirus, rubella, smallpox, typhoid, varicella, yellow Fever
    • thalidomide (medicine used to manage skin cancer)

    Overdosage:

    DOCETAX 120 RTU INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms.
