DILZEM SR TABLET contains Diltiazem which belongs to the group of medicines called Calcium Channel Blockers. It is used to manage angina and hypertension. It also manages you from getting chest pain in future.
During management with DILZEM SR TABLET your doctor will constantly monitor your kidney functions, blood pressure and blood sugar levels to avoid the risk of unwanted side effects. Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while taking DILZEM SR TABLET as it may severely decrease your blood pressure.
Before taking DILZEM SR TABLET inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney or heart problems apart from angina and hypertension. You must also inform your doctor if you have diabetes, asthma, stomach problems or any form of mental illness as a precaution.
DILZEM SR TABLET is not suitable for use in pregnant women as it may cause serious harm to the growing baby. It is also not recommended for use in patients with heart failure, severe low blood pressure, problems in blood circulation or if you are a breastfeeding woman.
The most common side effects of taking DILZEM SR TABLET are nausea, indigestion, constipation, dizziness and swollen ankles. Contact your doctor if any of these side effect worsens.

DILZEM SR TABLET is a calcium channel blocker. It relaxes the blood vessels by blocking the entry of certain ions (calcium ions) within them that causes narrowing. This allows blood to flow more smoothly across the blood vessels. It also reduces the strain on the heart and helps the heart to pump blood more efficiently with less pressure.
How to use DILZEM SR TABLET
Take DILZEM SR TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not chew or crush the medicine.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and health condition. Do not stop taking DILZEM SR TABLET without consulting your doctor.

- signs of allergic reactions (such as skin rash, swelling of the face, lips, mouth or throat which can lead to difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
- difficulty in breathing or worsening of asthma
- severe skin reactions (such as skin rash with itching and redness, blistering and peeling of skin, skin swelling and inflammation of mucous membrane, skin lesions with a pink/red ring and a pale center which may be itchy, scaly or filled with fluid)
- fast, slow or uneven heart rate
- signs of heart failure (such as shortness of breath with chest pain and swollen ankles)
- unusual body movements, facial muscle spasms, rolling eyes, feeling shaky
- signs of liver problems (fever, tiredness, loss of appetite, stomach pain, nausea)
- signs of high blood sugar levels (such as excessive thirst, passing more urine than normal and dryness of skin or mouth)
- skin sensitivity towards sunlight
- breast enlargement in men
How To Manage Side Effects

Constipation
Try to eat more fiber rich foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals. Drink plenty of water and exercise regularly. If this does not help, consult your doctor for advice.

Dizziness Or Drowsiness
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your dizziness. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.

Headache

ContraindicatedDILZEM SR TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women and in women who think that they might be pregnant. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Breastfeeding
ContraindicatedDILZEM SR TABLET may pass through breast milk. Therefore, it is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. However, consult your doctor for advice.

Driving and Using Machines
Use with CautionDo not drive or operate any heavy tools or machines if you experience dizziness or tiredness after taking DILZEM SR TABLET.

Alcohol

DILZEM SR TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- have problems in blood circulation especially to the lungs

- phenytoin, carbamazepine (medicines used to manage epilepsy)
- medicines used to manage blood clots (Ex. aspirin, clopidogrel)
- iodinated contrast media (used during X-rays)
- theophylline (a medicine used to manage asthma)
- lithium (a medicine used to manage mental problems)
- benzodiazepines (medicines used to manage anxiety) Ex. midazolam, triazolam
- methylprednisolone (a steroid medicine used to manage allergies and inflammation)
- cilostazol (a medicine used to manage leg cramps)

- cimetidine, ranitidine (medicines used for stomach ulcers)
B. Drug-Food Interactions:
Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking DILZEM SR TABLET as it may increase the risk of side effects.
Overdosage:
