    Introduction About DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION

    DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION is a combination of Diclofenac and Thiocolchicoside, which belongs to the group of medicines called Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs and Muscle relaxants respectively. It is used to manage painful muscle spasms.

    DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION can also be used to manage back pain (Ex. ankylosing spondylitis), joint pain and swelling (Ex. osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis), neck pain, sports injuries and sprains.

    DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION is for external use only. Gently rub the medicine on the affected areas. Avoid contact of this medicine with your eyes, mouth, ears, nose and with open wounds. Do not cover the application site with bandages or dressings.

    Avoid exposing the application site towards direct sunlight. Wear protective clothes while going outdoors. Wait until the application site dries, before applying sunscreen or any other cosmetics.

    Before using DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION, inform your doctor if you have any problems in your liver, liver, kidney, heart or stomach. You much also inform your doctor if you have weak muscles, high blood cholesterol, fits or any allergic conditions (such as skin rash, itching or watery eyes, repeated sneezing, nasal congestion and nasal itching) as a precaution.

    Do not apply this medicine without consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding women. The most common side effects of using DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION are skin dryness, redness, itching or swelling at the site of application. Consult your doctor if it troubles you.

    Uses Of DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION

    It is used to manage:

    • painful muscle spasms
    • joint pain, back pain, neck pain
    • sprains, sports injury

    How DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION Works

    DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION contains two medicines namely diclofenac and thiocolchicoside. Diclofenac is a pain-relieving medication. It acts by blocking the production of certain chemicals (prostaglandins) in the body that causes pain and inflammation.

    Thiocolchicoside is a muscle relaxant. It relaxes the muscles by blocking the action of certain chemical messengers (GABA) in the brain that causes muscle spasm. As a result, DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION relieves painful muscle spasms associated with inflammatory disease conditions.

    How to use DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION

    Use DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION as directed by your physician. It is for external use only. Wash your hands before and after application. Gently rub the medicine on the affected areas.

    Avoid contact of this medicine with your eyes, mouth, ears, nose and with open wounds. Do not cover the application site with bandages or dressings. Wear protective clothes while going outdoors as a precaution. Wait until the application site dries, before applying sunscreen or any other cosmetics.

    Your doctor will decide the correct dose for you depending upon your age, body weight and health condition.

    Side Effects Of DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION

    Common

    • Application site reactions (skin redness, dryness, itching and swelling)
    • Dry skin

    Uncommon

    • indigestion, stomach pain, flatulence, loss of appetite, constipation

    Rare

    Stop using DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • serious allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, or tongue causing difficulty in breathing or swallowing
    • signs of severe skin reactions (such as skin redness, itching, blistering and peeling or skin, red circular patches or pin-point dots with raised bumps accompanied with fever and tiredness)
    • bleeding in the gut (signs include bloody stools or vomits)

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Application Site Reactions

    Avoid wearing tight fitting clothes. Do not rub or scratch the affected areas. Place an icepack on the affected areas if necessary. Avoid using any irritant soaps or cosmetics on your skin. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Allergy

    Do not use DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION if you are allergic to Diclofenac or Thiocolchicoside.

    Lungs

    Contraindicated

    DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION is not recommended for use in patients with asthma or with any form of breathing difficulties. Therefore, consult your doctor before application.

    Heart Disease

    DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION is not recommended for use in patients who have undergone coronary artery bypass graft surgery. It should be used with caution in patients with other heart problems (such as heart attack, stroke, heart failure or high blood pressure). Therefore, consult your doctor before application.

    DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (below 18 years). Therefore, consult your doctor before application.

    Others

    DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION is not recommended for use if you:

    • have weak muscles

    Before using DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION, inform your doctor if you:

    • have a history of stomach ulcer or inflammation particularly if complicated with haemorrhage (bleeding) or perforation
    • have ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease
    • have edema
    • have low blood volume or dehydrated
    • have allergic rhinitis (repeated sneezing, nasal itching, watery eyes)
    • have urticaria (skin rash with itching)
    • have any skin inflammation or open wounds at the application site
    • have epilepsy (or convulsions)
    • are a smoker or an alcoholic

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before using DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:

    • other medicines used for pain relief (Ex. aspirin, paracetamol, celecoxib, ibuprofen)
    • medicines used for blood thinning (Ex. warfarin, clopidogrel, prasugrel)
    • medicines used to reduce blood pressure (Ex. enalapril, olmesartan, losartan)
    • cardiac glycosides used to manage heart failure (Ex. digoxin, digitoxin)
    • potassium sparging diuretics (used to manage potassium loss) such as spironolactone, aldosterone
    • medicines used to manage bacterial infection (such as trimethoprim, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, levofloxacin or moxifloxacin)
    • oral corticosteroids (used to manage pain and inflammation) Ex. dexamethasone
    • immunosuppressants (used to suppress immune function) Ex. cyclosporin, tacrolimus
    • diuretics (used to increase urine output) Ex. furosemide
    • lithium (a medicine used to manage mental illness)
    • methotrexate (a medicine used to manage auto-immune diseases or cancer)
    • mifepristone (birth control pill)
    • phenytoin (a medicine used to manage fits)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally applied excessive amount of DENSAID MR TOPICAL SOLUTION, rinse the affected area with warm water. In case of accidental swallowing, consult your doctor for advice.
