Introduction About DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY

DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY is paediatric nasal drop used for symptomatic relief from nasal congestion in children. DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY reduces nasal congestion, excessive nasal secretion and restores normal breathing. It contains a medicine called xylometazoline which works by thinning the mucus present in the nasal tract. 

Always use DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY as directed by your physician.One to two drops in each nostril, one or two times daily or as directed by the physician. It is for intranasal use only. Do not use DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY for more than 7 days without consulting your doctor.

Before using DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY inform your doctor if you have diabetes, hypertension, glaucoma, hyperthyroidism, or any heart problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have any other problems in nasal tract apart from nasal congestion such as chronic nasal inflammation with very dry nasal passages (rhinitis sicca or atrophic rhinitis).

The most common side effects of using DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY are irritation or burning sensation after application and nasal dryness. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect worsens.

How DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY Works

DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY opens and clears the nasal passages. It works by narrowing down the blood vessels supplying the nasal passage. This helps swollen blood vessels of the nasal tract to return to its normal size which allows the air to pass through the nostrils more freely. It also reduces excessive nasal secretions and provides temporary relief from nasal inflammation, swelling and discomfort.

How to use DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY

Always use DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY as directed by your physician. It is for intranasal use only.

For Nasal Drops: Gently instill few drops of this medicine into each nostril.  One to two drops in each nostril, one or two times daily or as directed by the physician.Clean the dropper after application.

For Nasal Spray: Insert the spray nozzle inside the affected nostril. Press the pump to release the spray and sniff at the same time. Repeat the same to the other nostril if required. Clean the nozzle after application.

To avoid possible spread of infection, this pack should only be used by a single person. Do not use DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY for more than 7 days without consulting your doctor. Discard the unused portion after 28 days of opening it.

Stop using DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • Severe allergic reactions (such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat which can lead to difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
  • Severe itching of the skin, with a red rash or raised spots on the skin.

How To Manage Side Effects

Headache

Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your headache. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.

Nausea And Vomiting

Take DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if your nausea worsens.

Allergy

Contraindicated

Do not use DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY if you are allergic to Xylometazoline or to any other ingredients of this medicine.

Heart Disease

Use with Caution

DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY should be used with caution in patients with heart disease (such as hypertension, prolonged QT syndrome). Therefore, consult your doctor before using it.

Use In Pediatrics

DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY can be used in children and adolescents aged 12 years or above. You must consult your doctor before using DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY if your child is aged 6 years or above. It is not recommended for use in children aged below 6 years. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice before administration

Use In Geriatrics

DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY should be used with caution in elderly patients. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice.

Others

DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY is not recommended for use if you:

  • Have had a recent neurosurgery
  • Have narrow-angle glaucoma (increased pressure within the eyes)
  • Have any problems in the nasal tract such as chronic nasal inflammation with very dry nasal passages (rhinitis sicca or atrophic rhinitis)
  • Have an enlarged prostate gland
  • Have phaeochromocytoma (a rare tumour of the adrenal glands)

Before using DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY, inform your doctor if you:

  • Have diabetes
  • Have hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland)

Interactions

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

  • Antidepressants such as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (Ex. moclobemide, isocarboxazid, phenelzine and tranylcypromine), tricyclic antidepressants (Ex. amitriptyline, nortriptyline), lithium, fluoxetine, sertraline, citalopram, escitalopram etc
  • alpha-blockers (Ex. prazosin, terazocin) or beta blockers (Ex. propranolol, atenolol)
  • antiglaucoma (Ex. Timolol, betaxolol)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally applied too much of DECON NEW NASAL SPRAY, consult your doctor immediately.
