    Introduction About CYTOGAN 500MG TABLET

    CYTOGAN 500MG TABLET contains Ganciclovir, which belongs to the group of medicines called Antivirals. It is used for the management of cytomegalovirus disease in immune-compromised individuals and the management of CMV disease in transplant recipients.

    Before the management, your doctor may want you to take several blood tests to understand your current condition. Do not take this medicine if you have ever had a severe allergic reaction to any of the antiviral medicines.

    It is not recommended if you have any pre-existing cytopenia or a history of cytopenic reactions to other drugs, chemicals, or irradiation. Inform your doctor if you have kidney, liver, or heart diseases. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    CYTOGAN 500MG TABLET is not recommended for use by pregnant or breastfeeding women. This medicine is not recommended for use in children as its safety and risks are not known. The most common side effects of taking CYTOGAN 500MG TABLET are diarrhea, nausea, headaches, and dizziness. Contact your doctor if any of the side effects worsen.

    How CYTOGAN 500MG TABLET Works

    Ganciclovir manages the multiplication of viruses in human cells. This stops the virus from producing new viruses and clears up your infection.

    How to use CYTOGAN 500MG TABLET

    Take this medicine as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicines with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of CYTOGAN 500MG TABLET

    Common

    • headache
    • dizziness
    • vomiting
    • nausea
    • fatigue
    • fever
    • stomach pain
    • diarrhoea
    • skin rash

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Diarrhoea:

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep you hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own for managing diarrhoea. Contact your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Pregnancy

    CYTOGAN 500MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Breastfeeding

    It is not known whether CYTOGAN 500MG TABLET passes into the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Kidney

    CYTOGAN 500MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Liver

    CYTOGAN 500MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Allergy

    Do not take CYTOGAN 500MG TABLET if you are allergic to Ganciclovir.

    Heart Disease

    CYTOGAN 500MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with heart disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Others

    CYTOGAN 500MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:

    • pre-existing cytopenia or a history of cytopenic reactions to other drugs, chemicals or irradiation

    Use in pediatrics:

    Safety and efficacy are not established in pediatric patients. Consult your doctor before taking  CYTOGAN 500MG TABLET.

    Use in geriatrics:

    CYTOGAN 500MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • didanosine, zidovudine (manages HIV infection)
    • probenecid (manages gout)
    • imipenem-cilastatin (manages infection)
    • other medications

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of CYTOGAN 500MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
