Introduction About COLIGON O TABLET
COLIGON O TABLET contains a combination of Dicyclomine, Magaldrate, Oxetacaine and Simethicone which belongs to the group of medicines called Antispasmodics, Antacid, Local anaesthetic, and Antiflatulents respectively. It is used for the symptomatic relief of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, pain relief and counter acidity.
Avoid alcohol consumption while taking COLIGON O TABLET as it may cause drowsiness. COLIGON O TABLET is not recommended in patients with unstable cardiovascular condition with acute haemorrhage, myasthenia gravis, glaucoma, obstructive uropathy, obstructive disease of the gastrointestinal tract, severe ulcerative colitis, reflux esophagitis.
COLIGON O TABLET should be used with caution in patients with lung disease such as COPD, liver and kidney disease, tachyarrhythmia, hypertension, coronary heart disease, mitral stenosis, congestive heart failure and in cardiac surgery, or mental illness.
Also inform your doctor if you have incomplete intestinal obstruction, salmonella dysentery, ulcerative colitis (inflammatory bowel disease), prostatic hypertrophy (prostate gland enlargement), low magnesium level, alzheimer's dementia, severe constipation or diarrhoea, stomach ulcer or intestinal bleeding.
COLIGON O TABLET should be used in pregnancy only if clearly needed. COLIGON O TABLET is not recommended in breastfeeding women, as it may pass through the breast milk. COLIGON O TABLET is not recommended for use in infants less than 6 months of age. COLIGON O TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients. The most common side effects of taking COLIGON O TABLET are dizziness, dry mouth, vision blurred, nausea, or stomach pain. Consult your physician if any of the side effects worsen.

How COLIGON O TABLET Works
COLIGON O TABLET is used to manage gastrointestinal muscle spasms where Dicyclomine is an Antispasmodic that works by relaxing the muscles in your stomach and gut (intestine). It manages unexpected muscular contractions (spasms). Thus, reduces bloating, pain, cramps, and discomfort. Magaldrate is an Antacid, neutralises the excess stomach acid. Oxetacaine is a topical anaesthetic that promotes quicker pain relief for stomach ulcers or other acid-related injuries. Simethicone is an antifoaming medication that breaks down gas bubbles and promotes easy gas passage.
How to use COLIGON O TABLET
Take COLIGON O TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the whole medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Depending on your age, body weight, disease condition, your doctor will fix the correct dose and duration for you.
Side Effects Of COLIGON O TABLET
Common
- drowsiness, dizziness
- dry mouth
- vision blurred
- nausea, stomach pain
- somnolence
- weakness and nervousness
- constipation, faecal impaction
- chalky taste
Rare
- serious allergic reactions such as rashes, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and throat causing difficulty breathing, swallowing, or talking
- severe nausea and vomiting or severe stomach pain, cramps, bloating, diarrhoea
- severe constipation
- loss of appetite, weight loss
- weakened muscles or bone pain
- painful or difficult urination
- mood changes
- swelling in your hands or feet
- symptoms of heat prostration such as (fever and heat stroke due to decreased sweating)
How To Manage Side Effects

Constipation
Consume a lot of foods high in fibre, such as grains, fresh fruits, and vegetables. Drink water and exercise regularly. Contact your doctor if constipation persists.

Dizziness Or Drowsiness
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you feel drowsiness or dizziness. Avoid alcohol consumption as it aggravates dizziness or drowsiness. Contact your doctor if dizziness or drowsiness worsen.

Nausea And Vomiting
Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. Contact your doctor if the nausea doesn’t improve.

Stomach Pain
Try to rest and relax. Eat small meals but take them frequently. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. Contact your doctor if the stomach pain doesn’t improve.

Driving and Using Machines

Alcohol
Avoid alcohol consumption while taking COLIGON O TABLET as it may cause drowsiness.

Kidney
Use with CautionCOLIGON O TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Contact your doctor before taking COLIGON O TABLET

Liver
Use with CautionCOLIGON O TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Contact your doctor before taking COLIGON O TABLET

Allergy
ContraindicatedDo not take COLIGON O TABLET if you are allergic to Dicyclomine, Magaldrate, Oxetacaine and Simethicone or to other ingredients of this medicine

Lungs
Use with CautionCOLIGON O TABLET should be used with caution in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Contact your doctor before taking COLIGON O TABLET.

Heart Disease
Consult your doctorCOLIGON O TABLET is not recommended in patients with unstable cardiovascular condition in acute haemorrhage.

Others
COLIGON O TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:
- myasthenia gravis
- glaucoma
- obstructive uropathy
- obstructive disease of the gastrointestinal tract
- severe ulcerative colitis
- reflux esophagitis
- paralytic ileus
- intestinal atony
- toxic megacolon
Before taking COLIGON O TABLET, inform your doctor if you have:
- heat prostration (such as fever and heat stroke because of decreased sweating) or fever
- mental illness
- mild to moderate ulcerative colitis
- incomplete intestinal obstruction or surgery to ileum (ileostomy) or colon (colostomy)
- salmonella dysentery
- ulcerative colitis (inflammatory bowel disease)
- prostatic hypertrophy (prostate gland enlargement)
- hiatal hernia
- brain damage or stroke
- spastic paralysis (in children)
- salivary secretion disorder
- down’s syndrome
- autonomic neuropathy
- hyperthyroidism or thyrotoxicosis
- toxin-mediated diarrhoea
- diet restriction (low magnesium diet)
- alzheimer's dementia
- severe constipation or diarrhoea
- stomach ulcer or intestinal bleeding
- to undergo X-ray, CT scan, MRI scan
Interactions
A. Drug - Drug interactions:
Before taking COLIGON O TABLET inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- antibiotics Ex. such as demeclocycline, doxycycline, minocycline, or tetracycline and ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, norfloxacin, levofloxacin, lomefloxacin, and methenamine (medicines used for bacterial infection)
- tacrolimus (medicines used to manage skin diseases)
- ketoconazole (medicines used for fungal infections)
- ethambutol, isoniazid (medicine used for tuberculosis)
- digoxin (medicine used for heart failure)
- antiglaucoma agents (medicine used to manage glaucoma)
- antacids (medicine used to manage acidity, indigestion)
- corticosteroids Ex. prednisone (medicine used to manage inflammatory conditions)
- bronchodilators (medicine used to manage asthma)
- medicines used to manage overactive bladder Ex. Tolterodine
- amantadine (medicine used to manage parkinson's disease)
- antiarrhythmic agents Ex. quinidine (medicine used to manage irregular heartbeat)
- antihistamines Ex. diphenhydramine (medicine used to manage allergies)
- antipsychotic agents Ex. phenothiazines (medicine used to manage psychoses)
- benzodiazepines (medicines used to manage insomnia, anxiety, fits)
- isocarboxazid, imipramine, desipramine, trazadone (medicine used to manage depression)
- narcotic analgesics Ex. meperidine (medicine used to manage severe pain)
- nitrates (medicines used to manage chest pain)
- nitrites (medicines used as preservatives)
- sympathomimetic drugs (medicines used to manage glaucoma, shock, COPD)
- ursodiol (medicine used to manage dissolve gallstones)
- mecamylamine (medicine used to manage high blood pressure)
- sodium polystyrene sulfonate (medicine used to manage hyperkalemia – high level of potassium in blood)
- vitamin or mineral supplements that contain aluminium, calcium, or iron
- alendronate, etidronate, ibandronate, risedronate, or tiludronate (medicine used to manage paget's disease or osteoporosis)
- phosphate-containing medications, including potassium phosphate, sodium acid phosphate, and others
- levothyroxine or liothyronine, liotrix, thyroid desiccated (medicines used to manage hypothyroidism)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of COLIGON O TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Signs and symptoms of overdose may include headache, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, dilated pupils, hot, dry skin, dizziness, weakness or loss of movement in any part of your body, fainting dryness of the mouth, difficulty in swallowing, and CNS stimulation including convulsion, muscular weakness and possible paralysis.
