    CODEINE PHOSPHATE LINCTUS contains Codeine which belongs to the group of medicines called Opioids. It is used to provide relief from dry cough. Dry cough is a cough which does not produce any sputum.

    Before taking CODEINE PHOSPHATE LINCTUS inform your doctor if you have any previous history of drug abuse, addiction or developed withdrawal symptoms after stopping an opioid medication.

    You must also inform your doctor if you have any liver problems, kidney problems, breathing difficulties (Ex. asthma) or thyroid problems as a precaution. Take CODEINE PHOSPHATE LINCTUS only for the duration recommended by your doctor. Do not overuse or misuse this medicine as it may make you feel getting addicted to it.

    Do not take CODEINE PHOSPHATE LINCTUS without consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The most common side effects of taking CODEINE PHOSPHATE LINCTUS are drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, constipation, loss of appetite, flushing of the face and slow or shallow breathing. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect troubles you.

    CODEINE PHOSPHATE LINCTUS is an opioid medication. It works by suppressing the activity of certain parts of the brain that triggers cough reflexes. Therefore, it provides relief from cough, especially dry cough.

    How to use CODEINE PHOSPHATE LINCTUS

    Take CODEINE PHOSPHATE LINCTUS as advised by your physician. Shake the medicine well before use. Measure the required quantity of the medicine in a measuring cup and consume it immediately.

    Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and health condition.

    Side Effects Of CODEINE PHOSPHATE LINCTUS

    Common

    • drowsiness, dizziness
    • nausea, vomiting, constipation, loss of appetite
    • flushing of the face
    • slow or shallow breathing
    • difficulty in coughing up mucous or saliva (especially in patients with chronic bronchitis and bronchiectasis)

    • signs of allergic reaction (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat which can lead to difficulty in breathing, increased sensitivity to light, inflammation of the blood vessels, fever or shock)

    Constipation

    Eat plenty of fiber rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals. Drink plenty of fluids. Exercise more regularly. Consult your doctor if this side effect bothers you.

    Dizziness Or Drowsiness

    Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.

    Nausea And Vomiting

    Stick to simple meals and avoid oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if nausea worsens.

    CODEINE PHOSPHATE LINCTUS should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years or above). Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

    • have a history of drug abuse (opioids, alcohol, etc.)
    • have thyroid dysfunction
    • know that your body rapidly converts codeine to morphine

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before taking CODEINE PHOSPHATE LINCTUS, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

    • medicines used to manage depression such as mono-amine oxidase inhibitors (Ex. phenelzine, moclobemide, selegiline or isocarboxazid) or tricyclic antidepressants (such as amitriptyline, nortriptyline)
    • medicines used to reduce anxiety and to induce sleep (such as alprazolam, midazolam, clonazepam, lorazepam, nitrazepam, diazepam, temazepam)
    • metoclopramide or domperidone (used to manage nausea and vomiting)
    • mexiletine or quinidine (used to manage irregular heartbeats)
    • chlorpromazine (used to manage mental illnesses)
    • opioid antagonists (such as buprenorphine, naltrexone, naloxone, levallorphan) used to reverse the effects of opioids
    • oxybutynin (a medicine used to manage overactive bladder)
    • hydroxyzine (a medicine used to control allergic symptoms)
    • methadone (an opioid medicine used for pain relief)
    • medicines used for relaxing muscles before surgeries (such as atracurium)

    B. Drug - Food interactions:
