INTRODUCTION ABOUT CINKONA 300MG INJECTION
CINKONA 300MG INJECTION contains Quinine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antimalarials. It is used to manage malaria caused by an organism called Plasmodium falciparum.
Malaria is a serious disease caused by a parasite that commonly infects a specific type of mosquito which feeds on humans, causing high fevers, shaking chills, and flu-like symptoms.
CINKONA 300MG INJECTION is not recommended for use if you have a prolonged QT interval, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, muscle weakness, optic neuritis (swelling of optic nerve), galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption.
Before receiving CINKONA 300MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you have any heart problems. CINKONA 300MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women unless considered clearly necessary.
The most common side effects of receiving CINKONA 300MG INJECTION are vomiting, headache, dizziness and injection site reactions such as pain, swelling, redness. Contact your doctor if any of the side effects gets worse.

HOW CINKONA 300MG INJECTION WORKS
CINKONA 300MG INJECTION works by increasing the levels of haeme in the blood, a substance toxic to the malarial parasite. This kills the parasite and stops the infection from spreading.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
CINKONA 300MG INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse as intramuscularly or intravenously. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you based upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF CINKONA 300MG INJECTION
COMMON
- low blood sugar
- headache
- nausea
- sterile abscess (painful collection of pus)
- injection site reactions such as pain, swelling, redness
RARE
Stop receiving CINKONA 300MG INJECTION and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- spinning sensation
- vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea
- visual symptoms like loss of vision
- skin eruptions
- asthma
- liver injury
- serious low blood platelet count (unexplained bruising or bleeding)
- cinchonism (ringing in ear, impaired hearing, headache, nausea, disturbed vision)
- hypersensitivity reactions (hives, flushing, itching, rash, fever, swelling under the skin, asthma)
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea or Vomiting:
Take regular sips of a cold drink. Have ginger or peppermint tea. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. If you still feel nauseous, contact your doctor.
Headache:
Drink plenty of water and get adequate rest. Try to be relaxed and stress free. Check with your doctor before taking any medicine for headache. If headache does not get better, consult your doctor.
Dizziness:
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operate any machines while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume alcohol, as it can aggravate your dizziness. Contact your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

PREGNANCY
CINKONA 300MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in pregnancy unless considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
BREASTFEEDING
CINKONA 300MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines if you experience visual disturbances or spinning sensation after receiving CINKONA 300MG INJECTION.
KIDNEY
CINKONA 300MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients having severe chronic renal failure. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
LIVER
CINKONA 300MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver impairment. CINKONA 300MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients having mild to moderate liver impairment. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
ALLERGY
Do not receive CINKONA 300MG INJECTION if you are allergic to Quinine, Mefloquine, Quinidine, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
HEART DISEASE
CINKONA 300MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with a prolonged QT interval. CINKONA 300MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients having atrial fibrillation, heart block, other cardiac conduction defects, or other serious heart disease. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
OTHERS
CINKONA 300MG INJECTION is not recommended for use if you:
- have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency
- have myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness)
- have optic neuritis (swelling of optic nerve)
- have galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption (rare hereditary problems)

INTERACTIONS
A. Drug - Drug interactions:
Before receiving CINKONA 300MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- medicines used to manage fungal infections (Ex. fluconazole, ketoconazole)
- medicines used to manage HIV (Ex. nevirapine, ritonavir)
- medicines used to manage bacterial infections (Ex. rifampicin, moxifloxacin)
- medicines used in epilepsy (Ex. phenobarbital, carbamazepine, phenytoin)
- amantadine (used to manage Parkinson’s disease)
- levacetylmethadol (used to relieve pain)
- medicines used to stop your blood from clotting (Ex. warfarin, rivaroxaban)
- medicines used for allergic reactions (Ex. astemizole, terfenadine)
- other medicines used to manage malaria (Ex. chloroquine, mefloquine halofantrine)
- medicines used to manage certain mental disorders (Ex. pimozide, thioridazine)
- medicines used to manage heart conditions like heart insufficiency or irregular heartbeat (Ex. digoxin, digitalis, flecainide, amiodarone)
- cimetidine (used to manage stomach ulcers or acid reflux)
- ciclosporin (used to manage transplant rejection)
- medicines used to manage diabetes (Ex. metformin, glimepiride)
- suxamethonium (used as a muscle relaxant)
Overdosage:
CINKONA 300MG INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms irreversible vision loss, vomiting, ringing in ears, headache, visual disturbance, fits, breathlessness, heart rhythm disturbances.
