    Introduction About CHLOROMAC 250MG CAPSULE

    CHLOROMAC 250MG CAPSULE contains Chloramphenicol which belongs to the group of medicine called Antibiotics. It is used to manage typhoid fever and other dangerous infections where other antibiotics are not effective.

    Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection that can spread throughout the body, affecting many organs, without proper management, it can cause serious complications and can be fatal.

    During the therapy your doctor might recommend you for routine blood tests to monitor in case of prolong use of this medicine, as chloramphenicol can damage blood cells.

    Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine.

    Before taking this medicine inform your doctor if you have blood, bone marrow disease, liver or kidney problems, high blood pressure. Consult your doctor for advice.

    The common side effects are anaemia, dark coloured urine, sore throat and fever, unusual bleeding or bruising, difficulty in breathing, headache, nausea and vomiting, burning, numbness and tingling in the arms. Consult your doctor if any of the above side effects worsen or persists for a longer duration.

    It is used to manage:

    • typhoid fever
    • other severe bacterial infections where other antibiotics are not effective

    How CHLOROMAC 250MG CAPSULE Works

    Chloramphenicol is a semi-synthetic antibiotic. It diffuses through the bacterial cell wall and binds to the ribosome of the bacteria, thereby managing the formation of bacterial protein consequently leading to inhibition of cell growth and cell lysis, resulting in suppressing the growth of bacteria.

    How to use CHLOROMAC 250MG CAPSULE

    Always take this medicine as directed by your physician. Swallow the medicine as a whole with a plenty of water and do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of CHLOROMAC 250MG CAPSULE

    Common

    • anaemia
    • dark coloured urine
    • sore throat
    • fever
    • difficulty in breathing
    • headache
    • nausea and vomiting
    • diarrhoea
    • bloating
    • tiredness
    • thirst
    • burning
    • numbness
    • tingling in the arms and feet
    • swelling of face, lips, eyelids, tongue, hands and feet
    • depression

    Rare

    Stop taking and contact your doctor immediately, if you have:

    • difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, severe itching of the skin, with a red rash or raised lumps, blistering of the mouth, eyes or genital region, patchy areas of rash, peeling skin, severe, persistent or bloody diarrhoea
    • drowsiness, feeling faint, sudden loss of consciousness, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting
    • unusual or increased bleeding or bruising
    • fever, sore throat, mouth ulcers, repeated infections or infections
    • feeling tired, breathless and looking pale
    • sudden loss or blurring of vision, loss of colour vision, eye pain which worsens with eye movement
    • ringing in the ears or temporary hearing loss, head-spins (vertigo), dizziness

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Nausea and Vomiting:

    Try to take this medicine with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food.

    Diarrhoea:

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated. Avoid taking any medicine on your own for managing diarrhoea. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Headache:

    Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if required. Do not consume too much of alcohol. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Dizziness:

    Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume too much of alcohol, as it can aggravate your dizziness. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Skin rash:

    Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use protective clothing when going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    CHLOROMAC 250MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

    Breastfeeding

    CHLOROMAC 250MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

    Kidney

    CHLOROMAC 250MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients suffering from kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

    Liver

    CHLOROMAC 250MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver problems. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

    Allergy

    Do not take this medicine if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Chloramphenicol or any ingredients of this medicine.

    Others

    CHLOROMAC 250MG CAPSULE is not recommended if you:

    • have recently been vaccinated
    • have porphyria (metabolism disorder which causes abdominal pains and mental disorder)
    • have minor infection

    Use in pediatrics:

    CHLOROMAC 250MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in children. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

    Use in geriatrics:

    CHLOROMAC 250MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

    Interactions

    A. Drug - Drug interactions:

    Inform your physician if you are taking:

    • Paracetamol (used to manage fever, pain)
    • medicines that thin the blood such as warfarin
    • antidiabetics such as gliclazide (used to manage diabetes)
    • medicines that may suppress the bone marrow such as carbamazepine, penicillamine
    • sulphonamide, phenylbutazone
    • medicines to manage cancer
    • clozapine, flupentixol, fluphenazine, procainamide (used to psychotic disorders)
    • co-trimoxazole, penicillin or rifampicin, azithromycin, erythromycin (used to manage infection)
    • phenytoin (used for epilepsy)
    • barbiturates such as phenobarbitone
    • immunosuppressants such as ciclosporin or tacrolimus
    • vitamin B12 (hydroxocobalamin)
    • oral contraceptives containing estrogen
    • carbimazole, propylthiouracil (used to manage over-active thyroid disease)
    • anti-retroviral medicines that manage HIV infection such as zidovudine
    • pantoprazole, rabeprazole
    • calcium channel blocker such as amlodipine, verapamil
    • azole antifungals such as fluconazole, ketoconazole
    • lidocaine, quinidine (used to manage heart problems)
    • citalopram, sertraline
    • sildenafil, vardenafil and avanafil
    • atorvastatin (used to manage cholesterol levels)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally took too much of this medicine, consult your doctor immediately.
