    Introduction About CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION

    CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION contains Cefoperazone which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, genital tract, skin and soft tissues, stomach, biliary tract, blood and the brain. It can also be used prophylactically to manage bacterial infections following surgical or diagnostic procedures.

    CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION should be under careful medical supervision. Therapy with CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION should be continued for the stipulated duration as instructed by the doctor to achieve better results. Failing to complete the full course of the therapy or skipping doses in between the therapy may not result in adequate infection control.

    Before receiving CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have any stomach problems (diarrhea, colitis) or if are weak or malnourished as a precaution.

    Talk to your doctor before receiving CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION as it may lead to unwanted reactions.

    Uses Of CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION

    It is used to manage bacterial infections such as:

    • Blood infections (such as bacteraemia or sepsis including sepsis in new-borns)
    • Urinary tract infections (such as cystitis and pyelonephritis)
    • Genital tract infections (Ex. gonorrhoea, endometriosis, pelvic inflammation)
    • Skin and soft tissue infections (such as abscesses, furunculosis, impetigo, erysipelas)
    • Stomach and biliary tract infections (such as peritonitis, cholecystitis, intra-abdominal abscess)
    • Respiratory tract infections (Ex. pneumonia, cystic fibrosis, chronic bronchitis)
    • Bone and joint infections (Ex. septic arthritis)
    • Brain infections (Ex. meningitis and ventriculitis)
    • Heart infections (Ex. endocarditis)
    • Post-surgical infections

    How CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION Works

    CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION is a powerful antibacterial agent. It kills the susceptible bacteria by blocking the bacterial cell wall synthesis. Unlike other antibiotics, it can also remain unaffected by the toxic proteins produced by the bacteria (such as beta lactamases). As a result, it destroys the susceptible bacteria and manages it from further growth and multiplication which will reduce the severity of the infection.

    How to use CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION

    CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein (intravenously) or into the muscle (intramuscularly).

    Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and severity of the infection.

    Side Effects Of CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION

    Common

    • injection site reactions (pain, inflammation and swelling)
    • skin rash, itching
    • diarrhoea, vomiting
    • anemia (low RBC in blood)
    • low WBC and platelet count in blood
    • positive coombs test (a blood test)
    • increased liver enzymes

    Uncommon

    • fever

    Contact your doctor if you notice any of the following symptoms after receiving CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION:

    • signs of severe allergic reactions (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue causing difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
    • severe uncontrollable watery diarrhoea, feeling weak and fever
    • increased bleeding tendency

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Vomiting:

    Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if you experience severe vomiting.

    Diarrhea:

    Drink plenty of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Consuming ORS can also be beneficial. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor. If your diarrhea worsens, contact your doctor immediately.

    Skin rash:

    Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use protective clothing when going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. Consult your doctor if your skin rash worsens.

    Injection site reactions:

    Place an ice pack at the site of injection. Do not move the affected area. Consult your doctor if the symptom worsens.

    Pregnancy

    CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION should be used in pregnant women only if it is considered necessary by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice before receiving it.

    Breastfeeding

    CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION should be used with caution among breastfeeding women. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive and operate any heavy tools or machines if your ability is affected by CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION.

    Alcohol

    Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION as it may cause unpleasant reactions.

    Kidney

    CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.

    Liver

    CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.

    Allergy

    Talk to your doctor before receiving CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION if you are allergic to Cefoperazone or to any other beta-lactam antibiotics (Ex. amoxicillin)

    Others

    • have severe persistent diarrhea
    • are malnourished
    • are an alcoholic
    • are receiving nutrients through IV fluids instead of oral foods
    • have any stomach problems (such as colitis)
    • are going to have any blood tests (such as Coombs test)
    • are going to have any urine tests (such as urine glucose tests)

    Use in paediatrics:

    The safety and effectiveness of CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION have not been established in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Therefore, consult your doctor for advice.

     Use in geriatrics:

    CEKOZEF S 1.5 INJECTION should be used with caution in the elderly patients. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice before receiving it.

    • aminoglycoside antibiotics (used to manage bacterial infections) Ex. gentamycin, streptomycin
