    Introduction About CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET

    CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET is a combination of Cefixime and Dicloxacillin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage bacterial infections such as ear (otitis media), nose (sinusitis), throat (tonsillitis, pharyngitis), chest and lung infections such as (bronchitis, pneumonia), uncomplicated urinary tract infections such as cystitis and kidney infections and uncomplicated gonorrhoea (cervical/urethral infections).

    Before taking CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET inform your doctor if you have lung diseases such as asthma, liver, kidney or heart disease.

    CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women. Contact your doctor before taking. CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breast feeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Contact your doctor before taking.

    CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children under 10 years of age. Contact our doctor before taking.

    CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients aged 65 years or above. Contact your doctor before taking.

    The most common side effects of this medicine are nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, indigestion or headache, dizziness. Contact your doctor if any of the side effects worsen.

    Uses Of CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET

    It is used to manage bacterial infections such as:

    • ear (otitis media), nose (sinusitis), throat (tonsillitis, pharyngitis)
    • chest and lungs (bronchitis, pneumonia)
    • uncomplicated urinary tract infections (cystitis and kidney infections)
    • uncomplicated gonorrhoea (cervical/urethral infections)

    How CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET Works

    CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET helps to manage bacterial infections, where Cefixime and Dicloxacillin belongs to cephalosporin and penicillin antibiotics respectively. They, works by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, located inside the bacterial cell walls (which are responsible for the formation of bacterial cell wall) and inhibit the synthesis of bacterial cell wall, leading to bacterial cell death.

    How to use CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET

    Take this medicine as advised by your physician. Swallow this medicine as whole with a glass of water and do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will give the right dose depends on your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET

    Common

    • nausea, vomiting
    • stomach pain
    • diarrhoea
    • indigestion
    • headache
    • dizziness
    • genital or vaginal area itching  

    Uncommon

    • change in kidney and liver function
    • blood clot

    Rare

    Stop taking CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • allergic reaction such as rash, joint pains, swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat causing difficulty in swallowing or breathing or anaphylactic reactions
    • Stevens Johnson Syndrome or Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis symptoms such as blistering, peeling or bleeding from the lips, eyes, mouth, nose, genitals, hands or feet
    • DRESS (Drug Rash with Eosinophilia and Systemic symptoms) symptoms may include flu-like symptoms and a widespread rash, high fever and enlarged lymph nodes
    • abnormal blood test values may include increased levels of liver enzymes and an increase in a type of white blood cell (eosinophilia) and enlarged lymph nodes
    • AGEP (Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis) symptoms such as red, scaly, widespread rash with fever, bumps under the skin or skin folds, chest, abdomen, back and arms and blisters
    • skin rash or lesions with a reddish or pink ring and a pale centre, with itching, scaly or filled with fluid
    • signs of infections
    • bruise or bleed more easily
    • nose bleed, bleeding gums, chills, tiredness, pale skin, and shortness of breath
    • blood in urine
    • fits
    • convulsions, feeling confused, decreased alertness or aware of things than usual, abnormal muscle movements or stiffness
    • symptoms of pseudomembranous colitis such as severe watery diarrhoea, fever and weakness

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Headache:

    Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes and apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if necessary. Do not consume alcohol. Contact your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Nausea or Vomiting:

    Take this medicine with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods.

    Diarrhoea:

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep you hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own for managing diarrhea. Contact your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Indigestion:

    Eat smaller meals but take frequently. Eat and exercise regularly. Contact your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Dizziness:

    Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operate any machines while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume alcohol, as it can aggravate your dizziness. Contact your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Stomach pain:

    Try to rest and relax. Eat small meals but take frequently. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. Contact your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Pregnancy

    CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women. Contact your doctor before taking.

    Breastfeeding

    CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or operate any machines if you have fits (convulsions), feeling confused, decreased alertness or aware of things than usual, abnormal muscle movements or stiffness after taking [GBNEYWORD].

    Kidney

    CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET should be used caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Liver

    CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Contact your doctor before taking.

    Allergy

    Do not take CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET if you are allergic to Cefixime, Dicloxacillin, or to Beta lactam antibiotics like cephalosporins, penicillin or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

    Lungs

    CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with lung disease like asthma. Contact your doctor before taking.

    Heart Disease

    CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET should be used caution in patients with cardio spasm. Contact your doctor before taking.

    Others

    Before taking CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have:

    • colitis
    • clostridium difficle associated diarrhea (CDAD)
    • coagulation disorders
    • poor nutrition
    • urine test for ketones, glucose
    • coombs test
    • phenylketonuria
    • severe illness

    Use in pediatrics:

    CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children under 10 years of age. Contact your doctor before taking.

    Use in geriatrics:

    CEFOLAC XL 200MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years or above). Contact your doctor before taking.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Inform your physician if you are taking:

    • medicines used to thin the blood (Ex. warfarin, dicumarol)
    • carbamazepine (medicines used to manage epilepsy)
    • probenecid (medicines used to manage gout)
    • medicines used to manage bacterial infections (amikacin, gentamycin and tetracyclines like doxycycline, demeclocycline)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally took too much of this medicine, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
